The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has journeyed to the beautiful city of Minsk to check out the 10 acts competing in Eurofest 2018. With the national final on February 16, each act is busy getting their performance on point.

The next entrant up for review is the super youthful Lexy with “Ain’t You”. Do we think she has the golden ticket to Lisbon? Read on to find out!

Lexy – “Ain’t You”

“Ain’t You” reviews

Anthony: Lexy is an incredibly talented young singer and songwriter. “Ain’t You” is an inoffensive self-penned entry, but she’ll need to inject more oomph to the song. After her live audition performance, Lexy will need to work on her stage presence for the final and really connect with the viewers, grabbing their attention in the process.

Score: 5.5/10

Chris: Sometimes, a long opening before the vocal can work (hey, “Amar pelos dois”). For Lexy, that’s not the case. Particularly as Lexy’s vocal and stage presence don’t command any sort of attention once that gets going. Everything is as flat as could be here.

Score: 3/10

Lukas: Lexy is very pretty and has a strong voice, but her song “Ain‘t You” is very mediocre. There is nothing memorable about it and when it is over I can’t even hum any part of it. I think she deserves a better song because the talent is there, but with this song she would be just forgotten.

Score: 5/10

Robyn: “Ain’t You” is a pleasant enough R&B ballad and Lexi sings it well. But here’s the thing — at the audition performance, the ghost boyfriend interpretive dancer was more compelling than Lexi and the song. The end result is that “Ain’t You” feels more like background music than a star attraction.

Score: 5.5/10

Sebastian: I get that Lexy is trying to channel a little 50 Shades of Grey, but her intended vulnerability comes across rather as slight nervousness and lethargy. Combined with the lack of any discernible chorus, “Ain’t You” ain’t my pick for the winner of Eurofest 2018. If she keeps working on her stage presence, I’d love to see her return to the contest in the future.

Score: 4.5/10

Nice try, but I think her voice needs more work and the song is all the same.

I really like Lexy as a performer and she stays very true to her style. I would not expect this to do particularly well but every year of experience is going to make her even better when she eventually gets that right song. I think she has a great chance of representing Belarus one day!

This whole “snooze fest” needs to stop completely. I’ll ALWAYS love ballads! 😉

Lexy is probably one of the best live performers in that NF, which is why it’s such a shame that this song is just… boring. I mean, it’s even more snoozy than Radiovolna’s entry, and I think I slept on that one already. There is no climax whatsoever, the melody just goes from my mind as soon as I hear it. The most puzzling thing is how at the ending, when most songs draw most power from, the song becomes even more slow and boring. Last 30 seconds of this are the slowest thing ever made, probably. A slow ending… Read more »
