melodifestivalen 2018 deltavling 3 excitedfor

Välkommen till Malmö! This week Melodifestivalen 2018 rolls into Sweden’s third largest city for the third semi-final of the competition.

Seven more acts will take to the stage in Malmö, hoping to secure one of two spots up for grabs at this year’s final in Stockholm. Failing that, there’s the two passes to duel it out against Sigrid Bernson, Renaida, Margaret and Mimi Werner at Andra Chansen in two weeks time. The three remaining unfortunate acts will progress no further than the stage in Malmö Arena.

Swedish Idol winner Martin Almgren will open the show with “A Bitter Lullaby”, followed by R&B singer Barbi Escobar singing “Stark”. Up third is rapper Moncho, with “Cuba Libre”.

Jessica Andersson returns to Melodifestivalen to perform fourth and make her “Party Voice” heard. Dynamic duo Kalle Moraeus & Orsa Spelmän are on fifth and Dotter, who co-wrote Mariette’s entry “A Million Years” last year is sixth. Closing the show is two-time Melfest competitor Mendéz, whose song “Everyday” is co-written by another Melfest alum. Jimmy Jansson.

Before they step out on the stage, or you hear and see the short snippets and rehearsal clips tomorrow, we want to know which Melodifestivalen 2018 Semi-Final 3 act you’re most excited for!

Vote for as many of the acts as you like in our poll below, but use your votes wisely. Unlike the Melfest app, you can only vote once. We’ll close tomorrow and reveal the results as SVT releases the snippets of the performances.

WHICH MELODIFESTIVALEN SEMI-FINAL 3 ACT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR?

1 Martin Almgren — “A Bitter Lullaby”

2 Barbi Escobar — “Stark”

3 Moncho — “Cuba Libre”

4 Jessica Andersson — “Party Voice”

5 Kalle Moraeus & Orsa Spelmän — “Min dröm”

6 Dotter — “Cry”

7 Méndez — “Everyday”

[polldaddy poll=9938053]

You’ll be able to watch the show live, hosted by Melodifestivalen 2012, 2013 and 2016 star David Lindgren, through SVT Play from 8pm CET.

The frontrunners to win are Mariette and Dotter according to poundints. And the few who have listened to all songs says that the heats are really good and a winner is to be found in these two heats.
Im hoping::

I dunno any of them that well but I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that the Swedish Idol winner Martin and Mendez will qualify directly. Jessica and Dotter for Andra Chansen. Then again I could be wrong and we might see at least 1 female finally in the grand finals now.

I’d have to say Dotter and Moreaus, as their songs are written by G:son, which coincides perfectly with Saara Aalto’s release of Domino.
We also have the first song by Kempe since 2016, that calls for a celebration.

I’m not gonna lie: this is actually shaping up to be one of the STRONGEST line-ups ever for Mello! I really enjoy listening to over half of the songs that we’ve heard so far, and ALL of them have made it further in this comp. I honestly don’t know where these claims of this year’s line-up being weak are coming from. But I for one, think it’s one the best!

Any complaints one might read in these comments look amateurish in comparison to the avalanche of discontent from the Swedish media and public every single year. On the internet people are mostly pretty respectful, and at least avoid words like ‘farce’, ‘tragedy’ or ‘national embarrassment’. Us Swedes are not so forgiving. 🙂
I dunno, I think complaining for many is an integral part of the authentic Melfest experience. No Melfest is complete unless someone says it’s the worst year ever.

“WHICH SEMI-FINAL 3 ACT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR?” None. Bring on Sunday the 24th where all my hopes are on Mariette. Otherwise I’m skipping both AC and finals for good. Weak weak year.

What an underwhelming Melodifedtivalen this has been. The absolute worst in my living memory.

I too have been underwhelmed. Samir & Victor are great, but we’ve seen it before. I’m waiting for something fresh to come along and re-invigorate the whole thing, and who knows, we still might get it. It’s only halfway through.

Samir & Viktor are the epitome of lazy performance.

Am I the only one who thinks that this year’s Melodifestivalen song‘s are quite underwhelming and weak so far ?

I agree with you. There are songs that haven’t won/won’t win in other NFs that were better than all this.

After the first listening this evening Dotter seem like a winner candidate among journalists, if she deliveres on stage.. I have really high hopes now. But, Dotter is not that known to swedes, perhaps it will bring her down. Maybe she will do a Loreen 2011, have her breakthrough and come back the year after 🙂

On the other hand.. it didn’t stop Nano last year..

Except he didn’t win… Also, Nano had a deep history rooted in his song, which I doubt Dotter has. I find the first scenario more likely, have a breakthrough, come back one year after and then win, regardless of that following songs’ actual quality.

I’m REALLY hoping Dotter’s able to deliver, I’ve wanted Sweden to send her since I first heard “Dive” in like July of 2015 and she’s only improved since.
Bring it home girl
