Songvakeppnin 2018 semi final 2

Three more acts advanced in tonight’s second semi-final show of Söngvakeppnin 2018, which was, as the previous week, held in Háskólabíó. This completes the line-up of the hopefuls who will fight for the ticket to Lisbon on March 3rd in Laugardalshöll arena.

The acts stepped on stage in all their glory, and one could find some Bruno Mars-themed dance-pop as well as a low key yet beautiful ballad about the birth of a child. The three acts that were Iceland’s favourites were called on stage in a random order.

  • Aron Hannes with “Gold digger”
  • ÁTTAN with “Here with you”
  • Dagur Sigurðarson with “Saviours”

Tonight the six acts performed their song in Icelandic, but on March 3rd, they will be performing in the language intended for Eurovision.

The semi-final results were decided by clear televoting. But in the finals, there will be a 50/50 split between jury and public, with the super final being decided yet again with 100% televoting. No surprises and everything run by the book. But due to technical difficulties in the beginning, Aron Hannes got a chance to perform again, after all six songs had been performed. A little Daniel Diges moment there..

Söngvakeppnin: Grand final qualifiers – complete list

Those are the six hopeful acts who wish to follow in Svala’s footsteps and represent Iceland at the first semi-final on May 8th in MEA arena in Lisbon.

  •       Heimilistónar – Kúst og fæjó
  •       FÓKUS hópurinn – Battleline
  •       Ari Ólafsson – Our choice
  •       Aron Hannes – Gold digger
  •       ÁTTAN – Here with you
  •       Dagur Sigurðarson – Saviours

What are your thoughts on the complete line-up for Söngvakeppnin 2018? Did your favourite make it to the finals? Will Iceland leave the dreaded semis behind and advance to the finals for the first time in four years? Let us know in the comment section.

I can’t like any of the six finalist songs, so I’m rooting for Dagur, who in my opinion is the best performer. Also, his song got better when performed live. Ari is a good singer too, but I really dislike his song.

I wouldn’t mind if Heimilistónar wins, because at least it would be nice to see them having fun in Lisbon.

Any chance for Brosa to get a WC? They were completely robbed. Very sad results.

Seconded. At least Brosa includes a hot blonde.

In this selection, I’m rather hoping for songs NOT to win than for something particular to win.
Please spare us the god-awful “Battleline” and “Our Choice”.
You might as well send the housewives because the final is out of reach.

No final for Iceland this year, again… All 6 acts in their final are weak…
