Broadcaster RTV Slovenija received a total of 108 applications at the end of their submission period for Eurovision 2018 — an increase on last year’s 90 applications — before whittling them down to just 16 participants. Then on February 17, a professional jury and the televoting public further narrowed down these aspiring Eurovision acts during the semi-final. Following the carnage (and slayage), we now know the eight acts that will compete in the final of Slovenia’s national selection show EMA 2018.

The eight finalists will compete in the final this Saturday. So while we’re counting down the days, we’d like to know what you think. You can listen to all eight finalists below, then vote in our poll. As usual, you can vote for as many acts as you like, but you can only vote once — so make that vote count! Click the box next to each act you’re keen to see at Eurovision before pressing submit.

BQL — “Ptica”

Ina Shai — “V nebo”

Indigo — “Vesna”

Lara Kadis — “Zdaj sem tu”

Lea Sirk — “Hvala, ne!”

Marina Martensson — “Blizu”

Nuška Drašcek — “Ne zapusti me zdaj”

Proper — “Ukraden cvet”

Who should win the final of Slovenia’s EMA 2018?

although Heart of gold was even better IMO I think Ptica and BQL is still by far the best choice for Slovenia 2018 and it’s even one of better songs currently chosen

For me the winner is Proper. Can’t believe that not many people see what a masterpiece it is. Not to talk about the VOCALS! Wow!

Raay production just doesn’t do it for me. The same poor quality every time. But what would you expect when they make so many songs every year lol. Clearly quantity over quality for them. Not for me though 🙂

I also like Lara.

BQL are an EXCELLENT band truly and should have won last year, “Heart of Gold” was esc top 10 material. It will be very dissapointing if they win this year with a much worse song. My vote went to Lea Sirk, she truly rocked the stage last night.

My favourites are Nuška Drašcek, Lara Kadis, Indigo and of course BQL! I’ll be fine with either of them but I prefer BQL!

Lara or Ina HAVE to win. Ina is so underrated and her song and voice are effortlessly beautiful. BQL is SO overrated it hurts to even type their name. Their song is alright at best, nothing special. Slovenia’s only hope lies in those two I mentioned above, but Nuska, Indigo and Lea wouldn’t be bad options either. As for the other two.. no thank you.. But good luck to all the artists, especially Lara and Ina <3

I love Zdaj sem tu !
The vocals are great too!
The dress is pathetic but that can be easily changed!
That song needs to win so that Slovenia can reach the final.

Because of this song or because of last year’s result?

Btw, if there is any insider or Slovenian here, maybe you can answer these questions:

1) Will the songs be kept in Slovenian in the final or is everybody allowed to sing the version they want to sing, like in Iceland?

2) When or the studio versions going to be available? I need “Vesna”. Need it! And I haven’t even found Nuska’s song from last year yet. 🙁

Everybody is allowed to sing the version they want. As I heard BQL, Lea, Ina Shai will definitely sing in English…for the others I don’t know.

The second question I’m not sure about.

“As I heard BQL, Lea, Ina Shai will definitely sing in English…for the others I don’t know.”

If that is so, it’s definitely too early to hold a poll, as these versions aren’t the ones performed in the NF.

Sadly Colin, we don’t get to hear the final versions in full until the grand finale kicks off. So y’all have to make do with their semi-final performances.

Well, this line-up features one the TOP Slovenian singers (Nuska Drascek!), but neither of them has got the SONG, in my opinion.

My favorite is clear after last night: I want Indigo with “Vesna” to win. It’s so dreamy and creates an atmosphere. And it probably has no chance to come first.

Lea, Ina Shai and BQL are definitely singing in English… Proper, Nuška, Marina and Indigo are definitely singing in Slovene… and Lara Kadis is still undecided. Hopefully she keeps the chorus in Slovene because I love it! The verses not so much.. My faves are Nuška, Proper, Lara and Indigo. The three that are singing in English can only get better I think. What do you think? Ha ha..

Nuska Drascek is BY FAR the best singer in the final lineup and her song is not the best I’ve heard but is immensely catchy and I’ve been humming it all day. It may well stand out amongst a sea of ‘salvador lites’, ballads and “electro-spotify-friendly-(and well basically cheap copies of other more famous tracks)” songs. Lea Sirk may be another good option for Slovenia. It’s VERY different from what we usually hear from Slovenia and it’s still very modern and oozes attitude. I’d only ask that she changes a couple of verses into English to get more of that… Read more »

Lea Sirk is ready to slay a performance in Lisbon, which is what I think Slovenians should focus on. A lot of countries are gonna to have safe, standard performances in Lisbon. To set Slovenia out from the rest, Lea Sirk is the best choice.

I also think Lea is great but every time I expected the song to take off, she took me back to the ground. So “Hvala, ne” on this one.

Such a shame about BQL, who were effortless and robbed last year. I would really like them to do well, but fans must not delude themselves any more than BQL shouldn’t. The song simply isn’t good enough and the multi coloured guitar effects looked very tacky and Eurovision cliche desperate. If there is any chance they did win, it would be essential to change the song or they would be heading for disaster.

Indigo with vesna is so beautiful and amazing it’s outstanding !
Well Lara kadis is amazing also omg ! But she needs another staging but indigo or Lara could bring back slovenia in the finals !
BQL why not I’m just afraid of the hype and the song is kinda bland pop song and the staging idk I don’t feel it (and my intuition rarely lies )

Again, I hope they don’t make the mistake of choosing the act that was ‘wronged’ last year because BQL will crash in the semis with that song (not like the overhyped Heart of Gold was going far either, but hey!).

Lara’s song also needs to be translated to English (like this it’s charmless to me), and the music reworked to make it less generic and disconnected from her voice.

I think Ina Shai could do actually fairly well at the contest, but my personal favorite is Nuška Draš?ek.

Ne zapusti me zdaj, eh? An acquired taste we both share. I don’t think it would do well but anytime i watch the performance on YouTube I’m singing along (or since I’m not Slovenian mumbling along to the tune and shouting ‘Ne Zapusti Me Zdaj!’ whenever she says it).

Yeah I don’t like Ptica either. It’s just a favorite here because people remember them as unlucky guys from last year. Still I hope they will get a chance one day

Lea’s song is the song that can convince me the most. I really don’t like that Slovenia forced the composers to only submit Slovenian language songs. That kills it.

Everyone…listen. BQL’s song is not good…Its average radio pop. I think Slovenia should send Lea Sirk Lara Kadis or Ina Shai.

Ina grew so much for me live, I wouldn’t be surprised if she won Absolutely enchanting.

Lea is fun, but I really would love a chorus, but still she can mess me up. 😉

Lara is amazing and i am surprised she hasn’t entered before! I hope these three can win over BQL.

Lara is only 16! She wasn’t allowed to enter before!
Also the lyricist and composer of Lara’s song is Lara kadis herself.

I loved BQL’s 2017 entry “Heart of Gold”, they should have won last year IMO. But unfortunately they don’t have a good song this year. I think that “Zdaj sem tu” is the only song that can make it to the final in May. Good luck
