supernova 2018 split results semi finals

On Saturday, eight acts will take to the stage in the final of Latvia’s Supernova 2018. And as the public selection process comes to a close — after starting back in October — broadcaster LTV has revealed the split results from the semi-finals.

It’s been a year of changes for Supernova and this is no different. We’ve usually found out the results of the Supernova semi-finals after the contest is over. But now, LTV have given us a little more insight as to who might be a contender in the final.

Supernova 2018: Semi-Final One

The first semi-final saw Edgars Kreilis and Liene Greifane qualify. The public, however, were much more keen on Sudden Lights: the band placed first in the public vote, but only 4th with the jury.

Edgars finished second with both public and jury. Liene, meanwhile, topped the jury vote but crucially came 3rd with the public — putting both acts narrowly ahead of Sudden Lights.

Public Vote Results: 1. Sudden Lights 2. Edgars Kreilis 3. Liene Greifane 4. Katrina Gupalo & The Black Birds 5. DVINES 6. Agnese Stengrevics 7. Rahu the Fool

Jury Results: 1. Liene Greifane 2. Edgars Kreilis 3. DVINES 4. Sudden Lights 5. Katrina Gupalo & The Black Birds 6. Rahu the Fool 7. Agnese Stengrevics

Overall Results: 1. Liene Greifane 2. Edgars Kreilis 3. Sudden Lights 4. DVINES 5. Katrina Gupalo & The Black Birds 6. Rahu the Fool 7. Agnese Stengrevics

Supernova 2018: Semi-Final Two

As has already been revealed, the second semi-final saw the voting go a little wrong. Initially, MADARA and Ritvars were announced as qualifiers. Soon, however, it was revealed that actually, Markus Riva should have qualified.

The details are now clearer, with Markus winning the public vote, but struggling with the jury; on the other side, Ritvars won the jury vote, but struggled with the public. MADARA’s “Esamiba” finished second on both, allowing her to win the semi-final, with the two men behind.

Public Vote Results: 1. Markus Riva 2. MADARA 3. Riga Reggae 4. Ritvars 5. Hypnotic 6. Monta 7. In My Head

Jury Results: 1. Ritvars 2. MADARA 3. Markus Riva 4. Riga Reggae 5. In My Head 6. Hypnotic 7. Monta

Overall Results: 1. MADARA 2. Markus Riva 3. Ritvars 4. Riga Reggae 5. Hypnotic 6. In My Head 7. Monta

Supernova 2018: Semi-Final Three

The only semi-final with a clear winner. Latvian-Brazilian beauty Laura Rizzotto may be staking her claim to win Supernova early, as she was the only act to top both public and jury votes.

Behind her is a much more confusing group: Lauris Valters made it, but appears to have qualified on a jury-weighted tie-break with Kris & Oz. Lauris only placed 4th with the public, but 2nd with the jury; Kris & Oz, meanwhile, 2nd with the public, but 4th with the jury. Tense times!

Public Vote Results: 1. Laura Rizzotto 2. Kris & Oz 3. Ed Rallidae 4. Lauris Valters 5. Katrine Lukins 6. Jenny May 7. MIONIA

Jury Results: 1. Laura Rizzotto 2. Lauris Valters 3. MIONIA 4. Kris & Oz 5. Ed Rallidae 6. Katrine Lukins 7. Jenny May

Overall Results: 1. Laura Rizzotto 2. Lauris Valters 3. Kris & Oz 4. Ed Rallidae 5. MIONIA 6. Katrine Lukins 7. Jenny May

Supernova 2018: Wildcard

Supernova 2018 was only meant to have 7 finalists anyway, but we’ll see 8 on Saturday. Despite the voting mistake in Semi-Final Two producing another finalist, the jury’s wildcard remains in place.

Looking at the split results, obvious wildcard winners would either be Sudden Lights or Kris & Oz. But could an act like Riga Reggae even sneak their way in? We’ll find out tomorrow, February 20, when the wildcard is revealed.

What do you think of the Supernova 2018 semi-final splits? Do you think that Laura could be a lock for the next Latvian act? Could Markus Riva or MADARA still take the Supernova crown? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section!

A girl is going to win Latvia’s Supernova this year. That is the only certain thing.

Madara will stand out but Laura will not, becouse she has another boring typical Eurosong! Please be original and send Madara!

If Laura wins, I will still be very pleased. She absolutely slayed live in the semi and I know she could do well in Lisbon.

Yeah I am surprised she came last too. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the performance. Perhaps the vocals but I would still push her through instead of Walk the Talk.

OK I kinda dig Laura, but she’s much less of a safe bet than Madara. Laura has a chance to get lost, I don’t think Madara is as risky because she’d definitely stand out. Pull through, Latvia!
All I really ask is that Elina sings for Estonia and Madara sings for Latvia. That’s it. The rest I hope don’t suck, but those two are the only ones I’m seriously pushing for.

Madara does have a big potential song however the lack of experience on stage might come and bite her and her chances of doing well. She was quite nervous in her first performance which makes me wonder if she can pull a great vocal performance in Lisbon under much more pressure. She is just a Latvian girl after all. Wish her so much luck as i do like the song.
I would prefer Laura only because it is a safer pick to have a great performance in Lisbon. But will see

Valid points. I could see some nervousness in Madara as well, but her song and voice could put her over. Plus, she has a gimmick (the cello) that sets her apart more than Laura. But Laura’s song is neat. And hey, like I said before, what matters is that it’s a song the country is proud of.

She has time to prepare herself. Remember Blanche? Also, the performance wasn’t any disaster.

Edmund

Blanche really had a special song that was a winning material. I personally think the whole performance wasn’t that good but she did look less awkward on stage by the final.
Madara could either be very good or very bad considering its simplicity and comparison to Salvadors song. I personally think it is not really much comparable however different audience might think otherwise and not vote because of that.

Laura will surely win Juries vote in final. However I wouldn’t write down Madara as she has the most streamed song on Spotify whereas Laura’s song is 4th amongst the finalists.
I wish Laura or Madara the win and I am pretty sure one of these artists will represent Latvia.

Madara currently being second for juries and televotes puts her in first overall (sound familiar?) so hopefully that could carry over for the final. Laura seems to be a fun entry too, but Madara would get them to the final no questions asked. But maybe Laura could too! Who knows. I’d be happy either way (though seriously, choose Madara).

You never know how the televote will favor one of these artists. Spotify for sure Madara has it in the bag however here in Latvia after Laura’s performance there has been hype around this entry which would favor Laura in televote over Madara. You never know how much Markus Rivas fans will vote for him too.

esc freak – ”Laura wasn’t in the live auditions because she lives in the US and she couldn’t go to Latvia.” I’m so tired of these ”I live in USA now” that have special treatment, just because European countries think they will bring the best music. The same with Ivy from Germany, she is German living in USA and she said that she was called to participate. What? I thought the singers must submit to enter in Unser Lied. And Ivy said if she will be last in ESC, is no problem, she will always have USA, she has contracts… Read more »

LOL at the Laura haters. Her song is the only one in the whole Supernova that sounds like a 2016-2018 song (The Weeknd, anyone?), and she also delivered in her performance. I rooted for her since I first listened to all the tracks in this NF and I’m glad you are all discovering her now. She would be an amazing choice for Latvia.

When i listened to all 60 songs back in (October?) Funny Girl was the only song a actually really liked. When she wasn’t invited to auditions i was like ‘what the hell?’, so shes my fave as well, but i thought Esamiba was more special, but her live wasn’t that good. Bookies don’t like Esamiba, it seems, they prefer ‘Funny Girl’. But yes, haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love.

There is something I quite don’t understand! Why this sudden Laura hype??
She was not even in the 2nd round of the mall audition at first but apparently was in the finalists announcement!
Then her YouTube video had over 200k views and only about 400 likes at some point in time!!

Now people are being all Laura gotta win , Laura gotta win!! Her live was good and all but it’s just a regular I can talk on music entry!! There is something quite disturbing here!!

Because she is the favorite of Supernova. And Sudden Lights is robbed two weeks and two days of promotion. Sudden lights has a VERY strong song and brought it perfectly. Why do you think there is a wild card? They put Sudden Lights in the underdog position.

True. Laura wasn’t even in an initial shortlist and didn’t participate in live auditions AFAIK, so I dunno why she’s even allowed to compete. Fan pressure? Corruption? WTF’s happening?

And it seems that Esamiba, with such bad televote and jury scores, doesn’t have any chance now. Bleh.

OK, but don’t you think that’s massively unfair to the other participants? Rest of them had to actually prove that they can make a good performance, meanwhile she’s got a free pass.

For comparison, in Belarus and Romania if anybody couldn’t go to the live autitions, they would be simply not considered.

I’m not sure it even matters anymore — Latvia has just made a complete implosion of this selection with amazingly overwrought or just bad staging, bad wardrobe choices, and shaky vocals….Laura and MADARA (and MAYBE Markus) are their only hopes of making the Grand Final — their saving grace is that we just don’t know most of the selections in the second semi still (song OR artist) so there’s still chances others countries’ acts won’t stand up against whoever Latvia sends…
