She made the top three in her debut year at Melodifestivalen and last year returned to the competition, finishing fourth in the final at Friens Arena with “A Million Years”. And one year on Mariette has become the act you’re most excited for at Melodifestivalen 2018 Semi-Final 4 in Örnsköldsvik

In fact Mariette won yesterday’s flash poll by the widest margin this year. She won 80% of all votes cast – 64% clear of her nearest rival – suggesting expectations are sky high for her entry “For You” and the performance she’ll give at the Fjällräven Center on Saturday night.

The other acts you were most excited for – Dotter, Margaret and Benjamin Ingrosso – ranged from 26-17% clear of the second place acts in the polls. This result suggests Mariette is a firm lock for one of the two spots direkt til final.

Felix Sandman, who’s been battling a cold during rehearsals, is Mariette’s nearest rival but only managed to capture 6% of votes. He’s followed in third by dansband Rolandz who managed to take 4% and newcomer Olivia Eliasson matched them on 4% also.

Musical theatre star Emmi Christensson took 3%, 16-year-old star Elias Abbas won 2% and Melfest 2013 alum Felicia Olsson came bottom of the table on 2%.

MELODIFESTIVALEN 2018 SEMI-FINAL 4 ACT YOU’RE MOST EXCITED FOR RESULTS

  1. Mariette with “For You” 625 (80%)
  2. Felix Sandman with “Every Single Day” 49 (6%)
  3. Rolandz with “Fuldans” 28 (4%)
  4. Olivia Eliasson with “Never Learn” 28 (4%)
  5. Emmi Christensson with “Icarus” 21 (3%)
  6. Elias Abbas with “Mitt paradis” 15 (2%)
  7. Felicia Olsson with”Break That Chain” 13 (2%)

All eyes now turn to SVT as fans eagerly await the release of the first snippets of the songs and clips from rehearsals. Once they’re out we’ll release a new poll, asking who you think should win Semi-Final 4.

The last performance of the competition is traditionally reserved for a prestigious returning act – the past three acts were LoreenMolly Sandén and Mäns Zelmerlöw – but it has proved a poisoned chalice, with Loreen knocked out in her duel at Andra Chansen and Molly Sandén finishing mid-table in the final.

How funny is it that people never stop bashing Swedish entries but Sweden usually sails through easily. I still remember how people hated 2016 entry but they still managed to score well and was successful on the charts in Europe. T These people don’t know some people outside the Eurovison bubbles just love pop songs with cool stagings and Sweden can give them what they want. I won’t even be surprised if the so-called generic and boring “Dance You Off” is in top 10 or top 5 this time.

A million years would have given Sweden a top 3 place in the Ukraine , it wouldn’t have won but it was better than I can’t go on.

From the descriptions from bloggers I’ve read, it seems like Mariette will be recycling her usual formula, “pretentious image paired with the most basic song ever”. There go Sweden’s chances if it’s true.

The most basic song? I think that Mariette had always on of the most intersting songs in her years. ‘I Can’t Go On’ is far more basic than ‘A Millions Years’ IMO.

LOL
“Pretentious image paired with the most basic song ever” pretty much perfectly describes almost every Swedish Eurovision song ever for me. 😛

If she doesn’t have the best song it’s clear that Sweden will struggle this year. A top 10 result would be the best possible for them…

I am kind of missing the option ‘I am not excited about the 2018 Melfest at all’ and would rather talk about anything else. Weakest selection in years, only the plastic plasticin nature of the event seems to stay the same

If you are not excited about Melfest at all, so why are you reading (and commenting) Melfest articles ? :))

Because, as in Sweden, everyone can express their view freely. Or you have a problem with that? Azerbaijan, is that you?

Actually I think is a good idea for every poll, to have the option : ”I don’t care about this topic”. Is interesting to have this as option in every single poll.

It is very easy to say “You don’t like it? Don’t read it then.” But maybe someone is interested in the topic, but not that particular semi-final, or wasn’t impresed by any option. So I think it should be more of a “None of the above” option rather then “I don’t care about this topic”.
On the other hand – there could also be an option “all of the above”

Hardly a surprise that the biggest act is the winner when most people won’t know the majority of the others.
