Mariette Melodifestivalen 2018 Semi Final 4

Third time’s the charm. Or at least it will be for Mariette if tonight’s Melodifestivalklubben audience exit poll is anything to go by.

The fan club polls the audience as they’re leaving the arena following Friday evening’s dress rehearsal. It’s proven to be a pretty handy guide to who could be in line to advance in the actual result.

Tonight, the majority of the audience rowed behind the “For You” songstress. She picked up 200 votes. That’s 26.4% of all votes cast. So far so predictable.

However, it looks like we could potentially be set for a second consecutive week of Melfest upsets. For in second place it’s newcomer Elias Abbas. The “Mitt paradis” singer secured 152 votes (20.1%).

Next up it’s the novelty dansband act Rolandz. The group attracted 121 votes (16%) for their “Fuldans” effort.

Fourth spot goes to musical theatre star Emmi Christensson. Icarus famously flew too close to the sun and went crashing back down to earth, but judging from tonight’s poll Emmi’s “Icarus” won’t suffer a similar fate. She scored 94 votes (12.4%).

If these results were to be repeated tomorrow, Mariette and Elias Abbas would head direct to the final, while Rolandz and Emmi Christensson would have to make do with Andra Chansen.

According to the poll, Olivia Eliasson, Felix Sandman and Felicia Olsson will all be eliminated.

Should the results play out as the poll suggests, we could be in for one of the biggest Mello shocks for some time. Felix’s “Every Single Day” has been met with largely positive reviews since rehearsals began earlier this week and was tipped by many as a potential winner.

MELODIFESTIVALKLUBBEN POLL RESULTS MELODIFESTIVALEN 2018 DELTÄVLING 4 Örnsköldsvik

  1. Mariette “For You” 200 votes (26.4%)
  2. Elias Abbas  “Mitt paradis” 152 votes (20.1%)
  3. Rolandz “Fuldans” 121 votes (16%)
  4. Emmi Christensson “Icarus” 94 votes (12.4%)
  5. Olivia Eliasson “Never Learn” 75 votes (9.9%)
  6. Felix Sandman “Every Single Day” 65 votes (8.6%)
  7. Felicia Olsson “Break That Chain” 50 votes (6.6%)

Of course, with such a small sample size, there’s no way of telling if this audience poll will play out correctly.

In week two, the poll correctly predicted that Samir & Viktor and LIAMOO would advance direct to the final, while also anticipating that Margaret and Mimi Werner would go to Second Chance.

However, for semi-final one, it wrongly predicted that  Edward Blom would qualify ahead of Renaida.

And last week it only got one prediction right — Martin Almgren for the final. Audience poll topper Mendez had to make do with andra chansen, while fourth place Jessica Andreasson actually secured a place in the final. And despite polling third, Dotter ultimately crashed out in sixth place.

Nonetheless — it’s a spot of fun and has proven generally correct in the past.

What do you think of the audience poll? Do you think we could be in for a shock, or do you think the live audience got it wrong? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!

Ban ballads? They should ban your music taste first for the campy joke entries.

Yeah, I would also send Mariette and Elias to the final – but Rolandz are dead last for me and fan favourite Felix bore me to tears. A bit sad to see Felicia Olsson last – I kinda liked her song. Icarus sounds ok, but tht metaphore is clumsy and wierd.

I know I haven’t seen the full clip yet but Felix’s song sounded the best from that so I’m surprised he done this poorly with audience vote. Maybe he was nervous? I think at this point Mariette is a dead set qualifier although her song wasn’t very interesting from what I heard. So far Benjamin, Liamoo, Martin (mainly on the basis of his voice) and well I thought Felix. Oh and please don’t send Samir and Viktor. Although it would be hilarious this year considering everyone is sending slower, more meaningful/ traditional songs. It would be a big middle finger… Read more »

I am a huge melodifestivalen fan but I have to admit i am severily disappointed, I could only see a few songs doing well at eurovision (Benjamin, Margaret, Sam & Victor or Mariette), like, really, those are the only songs I enjoy and they are mediocre at best, but of course the brilliant stagings lifts the song up.

I have seen some comments on the internet that suggested that Limaoo could win, Sweden, please don’t send a generic ballad, send comercial pop with great staging, stick on what you do best.

Benjamin and Mariette are generic flop pop.
Liamoo is different at least. He has the best staging.
I’d sent Shuffla anyway

If pigs can fly, I hope Samir and Viktor represent Sweden, but considering they fare quite badly with the jury…

Overall, pretty average Melfest year, but average is unacceptable in Melfest standards.

I know, right? Slovenia or Romania have better NF this year. And I normally don’t watch those.

France’s Destination Eurovision is properly my most favourite NF so far too! All 18 songs on average were amazing and there isn’t a song that I dislike from there! I was predicting Eva to win but Mercy is a great choice.

Estonia’s Eesti Laul and Latvia’s Supernova were also amazing and Czech Republic’s NF had amazing songs. I just hope the Big 5 countries deliver in Eurovision.

Anyway, I will try to stay all night to watch Supernova and Melodifestivalen since it would be about 3am in Singapore when Melfest broadcast live. Wish me luck!

And if anyone heard Alcazar’s “In The Name Of Love’ you can easily tell why they didn’t get Melfest this year. It’s a monstrosity and a disgrace to Alcazar’s discography legacy.

I went through all the Melfest songs since 2005 last night (yes, I’m a 32 year old dork!) and if I could turn back time, I’d rearrange the songs to give the really good ones a chance to shine. Hall Om Mig would win this year, hands down. It was a crime against the music. And no, I’m still not over it. 😀

I just had an interesting argument on YouTube. Can we just simply ban ballads from ESC for a year? I’m getting absolutely sick of them. This contest was supposed to be a party, a celebration to unite Europe. Not a wake after the funeral of our musical tastes. It’s a song contest. Not Idol or X Factor. Last years proved that this contest is steering in the wrong direction. It’s all about the staging and vocals. That’s why we get winners like Jamala or Sobral. And no, not bashing their talent or anything. It’s just I don’t want songs like… Read more »

A ban is not possible, but if Karma exists, Salvador will be forced to give the trophy to a fast-food act. I live for that moment.

That would be awesome!

Let’s face it, last songs originated from ESC to put any significant dent in charts all over Europe were Diva in 1998 and Loreen in 2012. That’s how you introduce Eurovision to the wider audience. Nobody wants ESC to be a niche competition.

Last year Onuka’s performance got way more talk around the block than any of the competing songs. At least for the right reasons. Yodoleiii, yodoleiii – hooo!

Sadly, because of jury, entertaining songs are seen as just fillers in national finals : Samir and Viktor, voXXclub. Everything is upside down now.

As much as people hate on S&V, I actually like this track. It’s entertaining. That’s all I require from an ESC entry. I like something moving, or fun. And as I love Jamala, she’s a doll, that song didn’t move me at all. Who’s hanging onto a past, events from 70 years ago. It’s like Germany’s entry this year. His father died 13 year ago. Yes, it’s sad, but come on. Typical X Factor move. Playing on people’s emotions. I could write songs about all my troubled past, and there was A LOT, but I prefer writing fun stuff so… Read more »

Actually ”Calm After The Storm” did better in charts and sells than ”Diva”. UK top 10 hit, a very big hit in German-speaking countries and northern Europe. Even went top 10 in Spain and Turkey

I’m from UK and never seen it on the charts, but thank you for correcting me. It was a great song, so I’m not surprised. Smooth Radio probably played it all the time, but I’ve never heard it. Only other songs I’ve ever heard on the radio, apart from the UK entries of course, were Every Way That I Can back in 2003, Only Teardrops, Heroes and Euphoria. Which is sad because every year we have some good songs, that are far superior to what’s in the Top20.

Mm it looks like you don’t know a lot about eurovision then. If there is something that should be banned from ESC it would be “joke acts” because they are an insult to music. And I see your point, a Eurovision Song Contest with only ballads would be exasperating, but the Eurovision Song Contest is not only about funny music nor it is only for ballads, it is a SONG competition, if there is quality you will do well. The Eurovision Song Contest basically shows what’s trendy and what’s not in the music business, right now, many young people, including… Read more »

I respect your opinion. You say you’re 20. I’ve been watching ESC for 23 years, so I would say I know something about it. Predicted Top3 every year since 1994 with 1 hitch when in 2001 Everybody won. Didn’t like it, even though it follows my idea of a good Eurovision song that brings people together. I get it when people are angry about the joke acts, but I wouldn’t rule those out. Yeah, Dustin the turkey was an insult, but Verka was amazing. That song made me dance so many times. It still does actually. And I didn’t say… Read more »

Can anybody explain what means : ”joke act”, ”troll act”, ”funny act”, ”novelty act”, or are all these just words that boring people use to dismiss anything that doesn’t sound like a song for funeral?

Why has fun become a bad Word? Is it suddenly a lesser song because it’s not a serious theme? That is why people dislike Salvador and his army, they think they are music judges that decide what is good music and looks down on those who don’t appreciate it. There is no fast food music, only music. It has a value for those who appreciate it. Music is not bad cause it’s fun. Yes Adele and Ed Sheeran are big but so is Avicii, Dua Lipa and David Guetta. Are they not less serious even though they are fun? ESC… Read more »

Your thoughts are exactly like mine. What is generic exactly? I only hear different kinds of music. And I love so called “fast food music”. If I’m out running that’s what I enjoy the most. Does that make me know less about what “good music” is? I think it’s based on what mood your in.

I’ve just started to follow melodifestivalen, this year as a friend suggest me to follow it. And I am very disappointed, I mean why does it get some much attention? Is this really Sweden’s best job they can do? Its very cheap and overrated, there is nothing special about it. I much prefer Ukraine, or France’s national selection (much more organised, and better quality of songs) And really Sweden is this the best you can do? Maybe next year they can spice things up and use another method for selecting for Eurovision.

You’ve missed some good stuff. I can completely understand that for someone who’s never seen Melfest this year’s selection might seem like it’s nothing special, because it isn’t. Not even 1 song caught my attention. Melfest is as bad as Polish NF this year.

Italy, Germany and Spain flopped with their eventual choices for the Eurovision.
Italy will be 18th-20th, the song is just not instant enough
Germany will be pretty close.
Spain may hope for a mid-table finish if the jury vote is going to be generous

Italy is not instant? But hey.. they won Italian televote in a landslide on a first impact.

Italy won because of the lyrics.
Pastora Soler was 17th in the televote and that song was memorable and had a real WOW moment. Spain needs a ”Despacito” or ”Macarena” or Enrique Iglesias to win over the public vote.

The snippet of Mitt Paradis was awful. I can’t imagine what improvement could happen over three minutes to move this to 2nd in the audience poll.
Feel bad for Felix Sandman. Although not setting the world on fire with originality, he seemed to have a nice-sounding song and his voice was a lot better than expected.

People don’t like dark acts this year. Felix might be better on tv but that’s what I said about Dotter last weak.. I really don’t like Felix copying Sobral’s handmovements that he seem to be doing at some point of his act. I think people would scream copycat after seeing him on Saturday. I don’t think Felix is the right way to go. We need a colourful up-tempo song. Completely different from last years winner.

2017 was all about Nano and Wiktoria (both winning polls + Spotify success) 2016 was all about Frans (he won every single poll by a landslide, smashing Spotify) 2015 was all about Måns and Jon 2018: Benjamin and Liamoo didn’t win their polls, yet their hearts beat slightly longer than John and S&V. Quite surprised by Felix not being in top 4. That said, the poll is relatively close, especially for those in 4th to 7th place are rather close together, so still hard to predict beyond Mariette making it to the finals.
