semi final 4 snippets longer melfest

Just a few hours to go until we’ve hit the end of the Melodifestivalen 2018 semi-finals. Örnsköldsvik hosts the fourth and final semi-final, and by the end of the night we’ll have heard Sweden’s Eurovision 2018 song in full.

But of course, we’re still a couple weeks off that decision — but we can have a good teaser now. SVT has released the 2.30 minute snippets of all seven of this week’s competing songs.

You can click on each song’s title to be taken to the song on SVT’s website:

Melodifestivalen 2018: Semi-Final Four Snippets

  1. Emmi Christensson — “Icarus”
  2. Elias Abbas — “Mitt Paradis”
  3. Felicia Olsson — “Break That Chain”
  4. Rolandz — “Fuldans”
  5. Olivia Eliasson — “Never Learn”
  6. Felix Sandmann — “Every Single Day”
  7. Mariette — “For You”

Y’all have been supporting Mariette since the start of the week. Before we heard any of the songs, she was your clear favourite. After the initial snippets, she remained in first place too, as well as topping last night’s audience poll.

If our poll predictions are right, she’ll be joined in the final by Felix Sandman — although he suffered in the audience poll yesterday (partially due to a nasty cold he’s had).

Emmi and Olivia were your choices for Andra Chansen, while the audience poll told a different story. They thought Elias Abbas would go direkt til final, whilst Rolandz would join Emmi in AC.

It’s going to be a tough one to call tonight no matter what. You can watch the semi-final live from 20:00 CET on SVT Play.

What a waste of time. Among those 28 entries only “Dance You Off” has any chance to properly impress. Last year there were at least 5 better songs than that with “Statements” and male/female duo (Jan/Anina?) singing in Swedish that top everything this year by mile. Bengtsson, Viktoria and Mariette (with “A Million Years”) were also a little bit better than anything this year.

I barf at all the silly comments about the songs being that bad. Yuck!

I wish I could give an order to my favourites to least but I like most of these songs for different reasons.
I guess my favourite ones are Mariette, Felix and Olivia but that’s not accounting for live performances by any means. Only one I can’t really see going through is Felicia’s and a definite qualifier is Mariette’s, but otherwise I think the 2nd to 6th spots are truly a tossup (imo).

My absolute favourites here are Felix and Elias. “Mitt paradis” is such a fun song! I litteraly want to dance! “Every Single Day” is a really beautiful love ballad.

I’d say Felix and Mariette to the final. Emmi and Elias to A.C.

P.S. About Mariette: “For you” is a really good song, but to be honest I expected better. Love the verses and the prechorus, but I needed a stronger chorus.

Geez, Sweden is really bad and boring this year… Even Mariette had better songs previously. For me the song that touched me most was John Lundvik’s and Benjamin Ingrosso had the best staging. So I would choose one of them.

There are not so good songs, with modern pop sound, I can say! But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a good song in total! Compare Melodifestivalen this year, with 2016, and you can see that we have more interesting songs!

Are you joking? MF 2016 had Robin Bengtson with “Constellation Prize”, Ace Wilder with “Don’t Worry”, David Lingren with “We Are Your Tomorrow”, ISA with “I Will Wait”, Molly Petersson Hammar with “Hunger”, Lisa Ajax with “My Heart Wants Me Dead”. Any of these songs are 10 times better than any contestand from this year MF. They’re still in my “Most liked” playlist on Spotify. I doubt this year any song has a chance to get to it.

“Don’t Worry” should have won.

Am I the only who is so annoyed by the lyrics of “Icarus”? In the story of “Daedalus and Icarus”, Icarus flies but he is too close to the sun, so the glue of his wings melts. So he felt into the sea and died. Icarus had a tragic story, I don’t think the writers of the song know the story that well.

Nobody seems to care. Melodifestivalen is riddled with non-sensical lyrics. I am still trying to figure out what “Undo my sad” or “Constellation Prize” is. It’s like “Really? You can’t be bothered to take a minute to figure out what the word’s you’re putting in your songs actually mean?”

As far as “Icarus” goes, hey, the story of the actual Icarus could still ring true for the song if she crashes and burns out of this semi final. That’s what songwriters who don’t give a …. about their own lyrics deserve. Silver linings, y’all. 😉

Oh my god, secretly I was hoping Marriette’s song wouldn’t live up to the hype and it didn’t lol. I really think the winner could be in Andra Chansen or Jessica Andersson. There are no ESC winner songs in the final.

My top:

1) Every Single Day
2) Icarus
3) Never Learn
4) For You
5) Break That Chain
6) Mitt Paradis
7) Fuldans

The studio of For You is far superior to the live, it’s just a mess live. She is just not good live. I would like to see a dramatic duel between Everyday and For You…

I don’t know about which of all the songs Christer Bjorkman said it could be winner. They are quite weak

He never said there is a winner. He said there might be a winner. Which is a slight difference. This would be the first year he hasn’t said there is a winner in every heat.

Felix has by far the best song this year and a potential top 10 placing at Eurovision. But, knowing Sweden, he probably won’t even get to Andra chansen.

I actually liked Sandman the best. A beautiful song. It should qualify but dark moody songs is not what us Swedes want on stage. Plus his rehearsals has been disappointing so far.
Mariette is gong to qualify with flying colours. As she should.

As for final? I predict fight between Ingrosso, Liamoo,Mariette(yes) and maybe Sandman if he makes it through.

Hold On was dark and it won the whole thing. Swedes loved it.
Also Human was dark and did pretty well two years ago.
I dunno what’s happening with Felix for not appealing to Swedes cause that song is really good.
First time I don’t really understand Swedes in a very long time.

I think we want more POWER in the song itself if it’s going to be dark and moody.
Human and Hold on had that. Felix song is.. just a piano and a voice. Perhaps many of us find it boring.

Yes. Those were way more produced.
I don’t see Every single day that dark tho. It’s more a simple charm honest ballad

Rolandz will destroy for either Mariette och Felix and go straight to the final, I reckon. A pity since both the last mentioned deserves a spot in Friends Arena.
The final needs them…

I just wrote that earlier. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rolandz sneaks through. It’s a Swedish thing. It is not a good song by any means but it’s liked. It will be Owe Thörnvist of the year.
But then agian, people also thought Edward Blom, Jonas Gardell and Kalle Moraeus would sneak through and they didn’t. So who knows..

Honestly I’m SO in love with Mariette’s song, especially that change in the end of the 2:30 snippet. I think either she, Viktor&Samir, Benjamin Ingrosso or LIAMOO will go to Lisbon

I really wish Kalle Moreaus was in the final. Seriously. At least he did his own thing and he did it quite well. Yeah, Mariette and Felix should qualify because they are the best. But that doesn’t mean anything if there is literally no competition because everyone is just so lackluster und uninspired, including those two.

Felix is by far the best in this group! Mariette was disappointing to say the least. I think Felix could win the whole thing if everything falls in his favour. I think it’s a three horse race between Him, LIAMOO and Benjamin Ingrosso.

I’m so impressed by Emmi’s song. It’s absolutely my taste of music. I hope she will go to the final today. Mariette’s song is also quite good, but she had better songs before.
