After a fast-paced Super Saturday in which not one but five Eurovision songs were chosen, the spotlight turns to Armenia on Sunday. The semi-finals of Depi Evratesil produced some interesting results. Hot favourite Tamar Kaprelian did not make it through, nor did social media darlings Gata Band. But the field is as fierce as ever, with several contenders for the crown tonight.

Following the second semi-final, we asked you who should win Depi Evratesil. After counting a total of 2,802 votes, drag queen Kamil came out on top. The diva singing “Puerto Rico” received 666 votes, equal to 23.77% of those cast. Our readers think Armenia should mix things up and send a Spanish song to Eurovision. The energetic performance of “Puerto Rico” clearly won our readers over.

Depi Evratesil returnee Asmik Shiroyan was a close runner-up, amassing 606 votes, or 21.63%.

The “You and I” singer was the last finalist announced for tonight’s grand final. In the absence of Tamar, Asmik is the Wiwi Jury’s favourite in the grand final.

She finished a close second to Kamil in our poll and could give the diva a run for her money.

Interestingly, neither of those songs has a strong Armenian identity. While our international readers may not care about that, Armenian voters might. And that leads us to another favourite — who is singing totally in the national language.

Sevak Khanagyan will be performing “Qami”, the only Armenian song in the grand final.

He collected 527 votes — that’s 18.81% of all those cast. Sevak and “Qami” finished narrowly behind Asmik Shiroyan with the Wiwi Jury and that trend continued with our fan poll.

Poll results: Who should win Depi Evratesil 2018?

  1. Kamil Show — “Puerto Rico” 23.77% (666 votes)
  2. Asmik Shiroyan — “You and I” 21.63% (606 votes)
  3. Sevak Khanagyan — “Qami” 18.81% (527 votes)
  4. Amaliya Margaryan — “Waiting for the Sun” 10.49% (294 votes)
  5. Robert Koloyan — “Get Away With Us” 6.53% (183 votes)
  6. Gevorg Harutyunyan — “Stand Up” 6.32% (177 votes)
  7. Nemra — “I’m a Liar” 5% (140 votes)
  8. Mariam — “Fade” 4.07% (114 votes)
  9. Lusine Mardanyan — “If You Don’t Walk Me Home” 2.21% (62 votes)
  10. Mger Armenia — “Forever” 1.17% (33 votes)

All ten acts took to the stage in the jury final yesterday. The grand final will take place tonight at 21:40 local time (that’s 17:40 GMT or 18:40 CET). You can tune in to all the action on the live stream on YouTube.

Will “Puerto Rico” head to Portugal? Who should win Depi Evratesil 2018? Let us know in the comments below.

I still wonder what are the criteria of jury voting? Kamil was given 2 points. Ok, we conclude they evaluate vocals. Then why Mger Armenia was given only a point? His vocals were better than Kamil’s, Gevorg’s, Lusine’s and Robert’s. Maybe they are evaluating the songs? Ok, then is Asmik’s song really that bad? Discrepancies between jury votes and televoting are enormous. Jury downvoted Mger and Kamil… Was Robert really that good??? I think Armenia should get rid of jury voting. The people are deciding who they want to represent THEM (not the jury). Thanks god Kamil didn’t get 12… Read more »

After the live, I concluded that Amaliya has to win! She was stunning, on point and ESC ’18 still doesn’t have a big diva ballad. If not her, than Robert Koloyan, with his amazing show, Gevorg, with his amazing show, or Nemra, with their cute and catchy entry. If one of them wins, I might even forgive the elimination of Poison. Kamil was WTF, but that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? I guess it would be bold sending it, since at least it will be talked about. Asmik was good, but kind of in a scale of a typical… Read more »

I absolutely love this. And the song is great, even if it still is a joke entry. I am absolutely loving the fact that the backing singers do all the job AND they are acknowledged for it. They appear a lot on camera, and to me this is kind of a response to how nowadays a lot of “serious” entries at Eurovision are based on hidden backing singers that do all the job, while the main singer gets all the credit. Here the backing singers do all the job but Kamil is not hiding it – it’s actually the opposite,… Read more »

Oh, how I LOOOVE people who desperately look for “messages” in joke entries just to make them more “serious”.( quite a paradox, isn’t it? LOL)
It happened with Verka, it happened with Alf Poier, it happened with… name it.
The matter of the fact is that they do NOT have a message, BECAUSE they want to be laughable.

Kamil explained in an interview here on wiwibloggs what is the message, that is about the fact people are always unhappy with their body. But I guess for you, a song with a message must be sung by somebody dressed in black, and half of the song saying Mercy@Mercy~Mercy&Mercy%Mercy!Mercy?Mercy~

I really hope you’re joking.
Many songs haven’t got a message and trying to find one that isn’t there is simply ridiculous. What Kamil explained wasn’t the message of the song, but the way she wanted people to understand the song, there’s quite a difference.
Unhappy with their body? I thought this song was called Puerto Rico, there is nothing suggesting that. In the article you’re mentioning, Kamil doesn’t refer only to weight and body, she refers to the non-acceptance of oneself in general.
Also, how can you compare this song with Mercy…?

I wish ESC has diversity, fun, positivity, happiness, strong emotions, (created by music and performances of course). Kamil Show would provide something good what probably no other entry provide this year.

I’m totally fine if Sevak or someone else is the Armenia’s representative, they are all good, some i like more than others. Kamil Show’s song and performance is however best for me.

With all the respect to the singer (singer?) because he seems to be a lovely person, JOKE ACTS HAVE NO PLACE IN EUROVISION, NOT ANYMORE! That happened from the 2000-2010 (the worst years of the Eurovision Song Contest), but it’s over now!

This is stupid, pointless, offensive towards the Latino culture and insulting towards all of the great artists who take this contest as a platform to show their work!

People voting for Kamil don’t like Eurovision, but the “freakness” that surrounds it, like it happened some years ago between 2005 and 2010. You are so desperate for another Verka… The difference is that Verka was funny and enjoyable and actually sang, Kamil is horrible, doesn’t even sing and his voice is annoying. He tries so hard to be funny that he’s ridiculous. So why someone would vote for it? Just to make Eurovision a joke. Also, how on Earth is brave to send this to Eurovision? Yea, what is your point? I’m talking about this particular try-hard “joke” entry. I like mid-tempo or untempo songs also.

So if you prefer “Puerto Rico” over a good ballad, you must be one of the guys I’m talking about. Also, you should think what you consider a ballad because, as @Colin said, we just have like 5 ballads (?). There are still some other good untempo songs that could be chosen that are far better than this cr*p

If this gets chosen, I think this song will comfortably stay at the very bottom of my list even behind the UK. This isn’t even funny… I like good fun Acts like ”Wadde hadde dudde da” but this is completely cringeworthy. First: The singer isn’t even singing anything at all and is still Standing in the Spotlight, like wtf? Second: It’s mocking every real good travesty Artist out there. My favorites tonight are Robert, Amaliya and Nemra, but I know they have little to no chance of winning. Four possible winners are Kamil, Sevak, Asmik and Mger. OK Armenia: You can choose this act, you can take it to Lisbon, you can generate all the fuss and mess you’d love to …but it can’t win Eurovision. I was so disappointed to realize the melodic bars weren’t sung by Kamil but the backing singers; it’s THEIR merit …the guy just shouts and supplies the antics.
