As Lithuania send their condolences to the late tenor Virgilijus Noreika, we’re just one step away from finding out their Eurovision 2018 representative. Tonight’s second semi-final of Eurovizijos atranka 2018 saw the remaining seven acts sing their entries and as usual, the Lithuanian juries made their decisions alongside the televoters.

Just like Greta Zazza last week, it was a brief return for Ruta Loop after finishing bottom of the table. Only three acts can join Jurgis Bruzga, The Roop and Kotryna Juodzeviciute at next week’s final. Ieva Zasimauskaite confirmed her place as tonight’s winner alongside Monika Marija and Paula.

Ahead of tonight’s show, the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — had a lot to say about Ieva. Wiwiblogger Barnabas said:

Here comes the love song which seems to be actually authentic, as it comes with an almost perfect package: Ieva’s voice and stage presence carry such a huge amount of cuteness, that it probably reminds viewers of a special romance. . This is well backed by the soft but precise piano and guitar work, making the whole track very heartfelt, a song that people could really get emotional with. And if there is some improvement to be made, it is the English pronunciation. Hearing “when we’re aaaaald” may take some listeners out of this heavenly mood.

Second semi-final running order

  1. Marija – “This Love”
  2. Twosome“Hello”
  3. Ieva Zasimauskaite“When We’re Old”
  4. Paula“1 2 3”
  5. Saules kliošas“Ikvepk ir nepaleisk”
  6. Ruta Loop“Positive Thoughts”
  7. Monika Marija“The Truth”

Talking about jury I asked why there’s no international jury this year and the answer was more or less “we don’t have money for this now because we want the final to be in the biggest arena in Lithuania and costs a lot, so we have to sacrifice smth”.
So it kind of shows what’s all about: money.

I just wanted to say that it’s nice of you to say a couple of words about Virgilijus Noreika, like it has nothing to do with ESC, but still, thanks for that.

His death was mentioned at the beginning of the show. And with condolences from everyone at wiwibloggs to his friends and family, rest in peace Virgilijus Noreika.

Yea, I know, what I wanted to say is that it was not necessary for you to mention it, but you did and I like it, because he was a very important person to every Lithuanian, including me. Thanks for that.

Out of all songs, I really thought saules kliosas would stand out and do well in eurovision, other songs are just bland and boring… I’m so sad they didn’t go through.

The comments were that it wasn’t that captivating because of Lithuanian language…

Thats sad. She was one of my favorites. I loved the song in Lithuanian, I can’t believe she would get a comment like that. I just hope Paula wins now.

One jury didn’t like her shoes, the other one didn’t want the lithuanian language, then they got mad on each other, and saules kliosas got 5th place. i hate our national selection 🙂

The jury voting was just shocking… Both Monika Marija & Saules Kliosas were their favourites in first heats, they also got 10 points from jury two weeks ago, and now something mysterious happened… Paula’s case is completely opposite – she never received lots of points from the juries, it was always televoting who saved her, and now she randomly received 10 points… Yes, she revamped her song, but was it really that good ? I found it quite boring…

Different jury members – different scores. Jury member Dalia Ibelhauptait? was always a big fan of Paula and she judged her for the first time yesterday. Also other jury members said they like Paula’s revamped version more than the regular one. On the other hand Dalia clearly didn’t like Saules Kliosas and other jury members weren’t enthusiastic about them either. Speaking of televote, I think Paula did bad because people weren’t familiar with her new version of the song. I also didn’t like it when I saw it yesterday but now I’m kinda into the minimalistic acoustic vibe of this… Read more »

I was surprised when Twosome received more jury points than Monika Marija.. I mean. Yeah, I must agree it was strange…

Lithuania is an odd country:

– Jury saving a humorous entry, and public not responding
– A ballad saved by the televote
– An uptempo pop saved by the jury

At least they all agree that Ieva is clearly the best! Hope there are no surprises in the finals.

There is nothing Lithuania can do to qualify this year… The Roop is enjoyable, so maybe I would go for them.

Geez, what is wrong with you ?!? A person just shared his opinion, nothing more nothing less… There is a website of Eurovision fans, none of them is an actual expert, but this doesn’t mean they can’t share their opinion… In fact, I also think there could be a year of non-qualification will almost all of these songs, so what ? Am I also not allowed to comment here, just because my opinion is not the same as yours ?

No, you are not. What are you doing is attacking other wiwibloggs commenters with your unnecessarily sarcastic responses, which are rude, to say at least. This is not a way to share an opinion, and it is also very unpleasant to read…

Twosome missed out?
Ugh. Seriously what is with Lithuanian televoters? Stop taking yourselves so seriously. You don’t have a good song here. You didn’t have a good song last year. Just have some fun with it for God’s sake.

I guess Jurgis for the win, now?

I have to agree there is no sign of a winning song but the whole selection process is taken too seriously for such a simple song. That doesn’t mean the songs are bad, it’s just that it feels as if there’s too much unnecessary pressure trying to prove that some of them can get a top 10 result in Eurovision.

I like Ieva and Paula. Both acts look very minimalistic to Eurovision standards but Salvador’s staging also was like that, so… I was very impressed by the direction Paula took with her song. I wonder if there’s still room to improve.

YES. If she can win the final now, and she definitely has a shot, it seems that Semi 1 will be the bloodbath after all.. funny given that we all collectively assumed that Semi 2 was far stronger.

It reminds me of 2016, when semi 1 had a lot of successful countries but ultimately, semi 2 songs placed generally better in the GF.
But yeah, it’s quite sad that a lot of countries from Semi 1 are sending very good songs but a lot of them won’t qualify and some Eurovision powerhouses in semi 2 will qualify with weaker songs.

I truly believe Ieva can win not only the selection but Eurovision overall. The visuals that she’s about to produce, the lightning, the emotion AND the Lithuanian version at the end of the performance. She has a big chance, in my opinion.

I AGREE… She’s the best in the selection for sure, and in Portugal she has a pretty good chance to win as well. (or @ least go top 5) Also, she should do some testings with the visuals to make the performance even more touching. Ieva ftw

Stop talking nonsense she wouldn’t even qualify to the final. A song similar to last year’s winner never does well in the Eurovision. Lithuanians don’t need to send a ballad. Ballads never do well unless people feel bad for the singer and that’s why they vote. This is too simple and too typical. THE ROOP and Kotryna are the only two options.

She’s the best, her stage presence is insane. And the visuals of “When We’re Old” are touching, as well as the Lithuanian version of the song which she sung in the end of the performance. She’s definetly worth it, and I truly believe she can even win Eurovision in Portugal.

Wow, Paula did a LOT of changes to her song ! It feels like an acoustic and stripped-back version, and is no longer a Scandi-pop dance song. She also changed the performance (no dancers, and she smashes a chair an some point).
Did Ieva add some strings ? She should probably win the selection.
