The five month worldwide search for a star for San Marino culminated tonight. IROL rocked some highlights and leather, host Nick wanted Judah’s tight t-shirt (join the queue), and Sara de Blue blew us away with her voice. But in the end, Jessika (feat. Jenifer Brening) took the victory with her song “Who We Are”. From Malta, plus Germany, to San Marino — next stop, Lisbon!

Jessika took out the top prize in San Marino’s inaugural national selection 1 in 360, which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia. After numerous voting system changes, the winner was decided by a 50/50 jury public split, where the public  were able to support their favourite song by purchasing a small percentage of the song’s royalties through Global Rockstar.

Sara de Blue, Camilla North, Giovanni Montalbano, Jenifer Brening and Jessika all achieved their funding goal of €8000, resulting in a maximum 12 points each from the public.

The jury was made up of San Marino’s head of delegation Alessandro Capicchioni, journalist (and former Sammarinese spokesperson) John Kennedy O’Connor, entrepreneur and philanthropist Ladislav Kossár and Austria 2016 representative Zoë Straub. Previous judge Neon Hitch was unable to attend the live final due to scheduling conflicts.

The interval acts featured some familiar faces, with Slovakia 2011 representatives TWiiNS performing their 2015 hit “Hey Boy (Why Do I Bother)”. Zoë also jumped from the judge’s panel to the stage to perform her 2016 Eurovision entry “Loin d’ici”.

The Wiwi Jury also favoured Jessika’s entry quite strongly, with wiwiblogger Robyn awarding “Who We Are” her top place:

“Jessika and Jenifer have transformed “Who We Are” into a girl power anthem, complete with a rap break that owes something to Mel B’s iconic rap in the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe”. 1 In 360 has been a wild ride and San Marino could happily send a sensible pop track. Or they could let loose and have some fun with Jess and Jeni.”

1 in 360 televote results

There were no surprises with the 1 in 360 televote: we’ve been able to track the songs for weeks on the Global Rockstar platform. Points scaled down in Eurovision format from the acts tied on 12 points.

That meant that even before they took to the stage, five acts were already eliminated. Basti, Tinashe, Emma, Judah and IROL had no chance to catch up on the jury vote.

  • Camilla North, “Yo no soy tu chica” – 12 points
  • Giovanni Montalbano, “Per quello che mi dai” – 12 points
  • Jenifer Brening, “Until the Morning Light” – 12 points
  • Jessika feat. Jenifer, “Who We Are” – 12 points
  • Sara de Blue, “Out of the Twilight” – 12 points
  • Franklin Calleja, “Stay” – 5 points
  • Basti, “Stay” – 4 points
  • Tinashe Makura, “Free Yourself” – 3 points
  • Emma Sandstrom, “Diamonds” – 2 points
  • Judah Gavra, “Stay” – 1 point
  • IROL feat. Basti, “Sorry” – 0 points

1 in 360 jury results

The jury revealed their collective top results, coming down to Sara de Blue in second place and Jessika taking out the winner’s spot.

So, in her eighth attempt (but first for San Marino), Jessika finally makes it to Eurovision. She’s bringing Jenifer with her to Lisbon as well!

What do you think of San Marino’s (and the internet’s) decision? Do you think they can make the final for only the second time? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below.

After second Heat of 1in360, the views on Youtube for Jenifer’s own Song ‘Until the Morning Light’ were suddenly reduced (about some thousands) .. Now who can explain why this was done by Youtube and for what reason ??? ?

Now another drama :- “Party Shore” song of Jenifer Brening (a plagiarist) is a shameless copy of “Cool Me Down” song of Margaret (a Polish artist-singer-songwriter). Margaret must file a copyright infringement case against Jenifer to teach a lesson for the theft. Following video clearly reveals this act of plagiarism – https://youtu.be/YeELdhydlkk ..
Moreover it’s already a hot talk that the chorus from “Who we are” song of Jessika/Jenifer is also similar to some parts from Eurovision 2015 song “Heroes” of Måns Zelmerlöw (Sweden).

Dear worldwide Eurovision Fans! Now the scandal of 1in360 is perfect : On some social media like facebook a list was published in which you can see all the crowdfunders, who have invested in their favourites. Among these there are also family members of the candidates or Christof Straub (who wasn‘t in the judge), but this is not a problem. If you analyse the list of Jessica Muscat (the later Winner of 1in360) and if this list is authentic, then she as a candidate, San Marino RTV as a responsible broadcaster for selecting San Marino‘s candidate and also Matthias Strasser… Read more »

Do both the best friends A. Capichioni & J. Kennedy (as members in jury) know what they’ve done with their unbelievable wrong decision ? Actually they just had to compare the 2 acoustic versions of “Out Of The Twilight” performed by Sara De Blue & Jessica Muscat and the 2 versions of “Until The Morning Light” performed by Jennifer Brening & Sara De Blue on youtube. Then they would have recognised who can really sing better. While doing this they might be more able to concentrate on the pure voices rather than the outfits of singers, because they aren’t fashion… Read more »

The competition 1in360 has so much problems since its beginning : Multiple change of the rules and the limits for reaching the final, double change of the judges, change of rapper Irol, very strange public voting, not objective decisions from the judges ( best fashion from Swarovski like once of marvellous Conchita not valued against cheap robots…) and many more….And now there are discussions on wiwibloggs and other platforms about potential plagiarism allegations of the chorus of the winning Song, just like Diogo Picarra in Portugal ? Sara did a very good job. Her voice is wonderful and she would have been a deserved winner too. I think her fanbase made sure she didn’t win. Who wants to get such an aggressive fan camp in his house, which posts so many negative comments about other artists? In a competition you have to behave fair! Many of you have apparently still not understood that.

More issues I see :
> Video of finale is not released so far and live webcast was very disturbed (may b to deprive majority of people from seeing the actual performances conveniently so that judges may not b criticized at huge level).
> Decent beautiful dress of Sara made a judge (john kennedy) to distract from song. But open cleavage dress of Jessika and robotic toys helped the same judge to concentrate very well on song.

Jana, Peter does have a point. Instead of multiple people getting 12 points for reaching the max crowdfunding level, it should have gone by who reached the goal first and so on with the points decreasing. So it could go like this:

Sara: 12 (since she reached the goal first)
Giovanni: 10
Jenifer: 8
Camilla: 7
Jessika: 6

If it was like that, even if Jessika was the jury winner Sara still could have potentially won the entire thing

So you believe it was Strasser who somehow had Irol tossed from this duet because he thought Jessika had a decent chance to win. If the suspicion keeps growing from here, San Marino might end up getting sent packing from Lisbon without even that single point they earned in Kyiv last year. Then they’ll be obligated to send Irol in 2019, alone or with a singer with no connections to either Strasser or Siegel. The performance is not great, but I guess it is after the contest, so the effort was not at a maximum level. The song is absolutely great, so complex, with a lot of elements and a mix of genres. Of course we can’t avoid listening the ‘Heroes’ vibes, maybe too similar vibes from it, but as long as it is legal… It should be a finalist this year, I hope to proove that smaller countries can do well too in Eurovision.

If Sara was the only one who received 12 points for the crowdfunding votes, she probably would’ve won! Unfortunately, 5 entries have to share those 12 points together.

Change the rule for the crowdfunding vote next time, please. The first artist who had his/her song fully funded should be the only one who received 12 points

Jessika’s song would’ve received only 6 points for the crowdfunding if it didn’t get fully funded in time.
