Cláudia Pascoal Isaura O Jardim Festival da Canção 2018 Eurovision 2018

It’s the infamously sedate national selection with a fondness for gentle old-school style songs. But Festival da Canção 2018 has been all about the drama!

Semi-final one had a mix-up with televoting results, while earlier this week we saw hot favourite Diogo Piçarra withdraw from the contest over plagiarism allegations.

Here’s hoping the only drama tonight will come courtesy of a tense voting sequence. However, if our poll is anything to go by, it looks like Portugal’s representative for Eurovision 2018 may already be a foregone conclusion.

After counting 1,927 votes, we can now reveal that Cláudia Pascoal is your favourite to sing for Portugal in Lisbon. The “O Jardim” songstress picked up 793 votes which amounts to a massive 41.15% of all votes cast.

Coming a distant second is Janeiro with “(sem título)”. The semi-final one runner-up picked up 249 votes (12.92%). The top five is completed by Lili, Catarina Miranda, and Peu Madureira respectively. In sixth place is Peter Serrado the only other act to score more than 100 votes.

At the other end of the table, we have Susana Travassos with “Mensageira”. Only six people gave her their vote. In her defence, Susana was only added to the poll after Diogo’s withdrawal, meaning she had less time to garner support.

Poll results:Who should win Festival da Canção 2018?

  1. “O Jardim” – Cláudia Pascoal 41.15% (793 votes)
  2. “(sem título)” – Janeiro 12.92% (249 votes)
  3. “Voo das Cegonhas” – Lili 9.5% (183 votes)
  4. “Para Sorrir Eu Não Preciso de Nada” – Catarina Miranda 8.56% (165 votes)
  5. “Só Por Ela” – Peu Madureira 6.69% (129 votes)
  6. “Sunset” – Peter Serrado 5.71% (110 votes)
  7. “Anda Estragar-me os Planos” – Joana Barra Vaz 3.17% (61 votes)
  8. “Para te dar abrigo” – Anabela 3.11% (60 votes)
  9. “Patati Patata” – Minnie & Rhayra 2.59% (50 votes)
  10. “Zero a Zero” – Joana Espadinha 2.34% (45 votes)
  11. “Bandeira Azul” – Maria Inês Paris 1.4% (27 votes)
  12. “Sem Medo” – Rui David 1.3% (25 votes)
  13. “Amor Veloz” – David Pessoa 1.25% (24 votes)
  14. “Mensageira” – Susana Travassos 0.31% (6 votes)

Total Votes: 1,927

The final of Festival da Canção 2018 airs at 22:15 CET tonight.

I didn’t follow Portugal’s selection
I never do, because it’s just not my type of music
And I thought it would be a bad a blank song

Boi was I wrong
She will definitely stay in my top 5

I have a feeling that this year will be the first one since 2013 to have a semifinalist at the 26th spot at the finals. Out of the finalists, maybe UK has the weakest entry, but the way she connects with the public, I think she can avoid being last.

A possible Eurovision Winner… A modern song, complex, great great voice… If extended to 3 minutes, and in the last minute raising the tone and accelerate a bit, this song could win Eurovision to Portugal again. Maybe will be LISBON 2019.

Fine song, but not entirely my taste (Song 6 was my favourite). Still gets a respectable 8/12.

Is nice that Portugal is happy with it’s choice, but is the second song this year dedicated to a dead person. Portugal and Germany.

“O Jardim” won! Cláudia and Catarina finished both with 22 points, but the televote was more important. Peu third place with both juries and televoting.

I’m happy! Not just because I think that’s a great choice, but also because my 2 favorites were on the top.

Great choice. I actually liked both songs but O Jardim is much more memorable and has more impact. Good job, Portugal. I do not think that you will come last!

It’s funny and entertaining. Well done.

And Claudia performed O Jardim with a smile. Really really good. She is the winner, I wouldn’t understand the world anymore otherwise.
But the song is only 2:40 long? How come.

they have to extend to 3 minutes… and raise the tone in the last minute… like this, it could win eurovision.

Cláudia was absolutely brilliant tonight. In the semifinal, the nerves kicked kinda early and she hasn’t hit all notes as she should. But tonight it was beautiful and the ending was just as emotional as the first time. The response of the crowd was great.

Catarina and Peu also got good reactions. She was glowing beautifully, he was as effective as two weeks ago. Janeiro was more likeable tonight also but I think those who hated him will still hate him anyway.

I’m not with you this time. I think majority of the performers (i.e. Catarina, Lili, Claudia…) were more nervous than in the semis and they sounded better in the semis.
Claudia was still the best but the backing vocal by Isaura felt a bit weird this time. It was more subtle in the semi and I think it was better that way.
In any case, Claudia for the win!

I agree that Catarina and Lili were more nervous, but I think this actually made them perform better. That walking dead audience on RTP studios was killing my mood then. It’s nice when there’s some exchange between the singer and the crowd. I agree that Isaura’s backing vocal still hasn’t worked as it should. But I thought the same on the semifinal, even if it was more subtle. That’s something they need to work out if they win. On the other hand, Cláudia’s vocals bothered me on the semi, but today I thought she was way more focused even if… Read more »

It actually gave me chills when Isaura joined in the semi but it couldn’t feel the same tonight. And Claudia’s vocals weren’t without flaws in the final performance but still these didn’t change my winner.

I have officially lost any hope there would be a song that I like in Eurovision 2018. Maybe if Portugal sends “O vôo das cegonhas”, but it’s very unlikely.

City Lights that had a mysterious/pretentious sound. I like better the clear sound of SENNEK’s song.

I agree that it’s a bit weaker than City Lights. It has quality, gives me Bond-vibes. Not necessarily my type of song, but I really like it, good job Belgium! Although not feeling it placing top 5 yet but one thing is for sure: Semi 1 will be a bloodbath.

I have just heard the song from Belgium on twitter – It’s just a matter of time.
A jazzy, catchy, interesting, meaningful song performed with a wonderful voice and musically very good. I guess I can’t resist it and depending on the performance in Lisbon must give it my 12 points.

Good contemporary song. Don’t think it’s the winner though. I predict somewhere in the Top 5 definitely, again, a really good showing from Belgium. They know their stuff.

I’ll be sleeping on this one, I’m afraid. And no, it’s not a pun about songs, it’s for a fact that it is so late. I will be happy if Claudia, Lili or Catarina wins tonight. Peu’s song is very old-fashioned in a run the mill way and Janeiro is very boring (I honestly cannot remember one syllable of the song after hearing it twice).

Hopefully she wins. This song could definitely end up Top 5 when it’s all done. Beautiful Portuguese language, emotions, contemporary sound and beats. I think it ticks all the boxes.. the only thing I worry about is how it’ll be staged in Lisbon, but I’m sure they won’t sabotage their own entry! Parabéns Portugal ??

Though I love “O Jardim”, I believe Peu Madureira will win, the jury will give him 12 points and 10 points for Janeiro, Claudia will have 8 points, which is a shame.

Only the public can save this song, but even if Claudia has 12 points from the public, Peu will win if he has 10 or 8 points (in this case, he would draw with Claudia, but the jury vote would prevail).

Let’s see what happens tonight.

Janeiro got 12 point from the jury over Peu in Semi 1 so it doesn’t make much sense. Also, Claudia is now the winner of Semi 2 by right after Diogo’s withdrawal. She has both the jury and the public behind her. Don’t count her out.

I hope you’re right. Portugal won’t win twice in a row, not when Greece, Ukraine, Italy, France and Stonia are sending almost masterpieces this year, but she would stand out and maybe have a top 10 for Portugal. Even if she won’t, Portugal couldn’t be better represented this year. 🙂
