In recent months Alfred and Amaia have kept Spain under their spell — first by falling in love on OT and then by winning the OT Eurovision gala with their lovely duet “Tu canción”. They’ve subsequently performed their entry all over Spain, and have been making tweaks along the way.
The music video will be released on Friday. But on Tuesday Cadena Dial spoiled the surprise about the song’s revamp, playing the final version of “Tu canción”.
The simple song now has stronger instrumentation, giving it a bit more of oomph, and there’s a spectacular new ending. But don’t let me tell you. RTVE released the high quality version of the song and you can listen to it below.
“Tu canción” now has a more polished sound, with a more complex piano base, more strings and some other swelling instrumentation to enhance key moments of the song.
Amaia and Alfred also sound better together, with Alfred projecting a clearer voice without his trademark flourishes. This will likely reduce the occasional comparisons to a frog that we have seen on YouTube and elsewhere. Their vocals blend smoothly and despite the heavier instrumental, they remain the true stars of the entry.
We have to talk about what really has us excited: the big climax. OH. THE. CLIMAX.
The “ooooh, ooooh, oooh” part that felt a bit languid before now paves the way for a proper explosion.
There’s little a cappella section while they sing “Siento que bailo por primera vez”, and then boom! The big orchestra appears and it’s as if Heaven’s gates are opening.
RTVE will reveal the official music video for “Tu canción” on Friday the 9th. As for now, you can take a look at the snippet, which looks stunning already.
“Tu canción” music video snippet
What do you think of the new version of “Tu canción”? Do you prefer it to the original? Are you excited about the climax? How do you think the music video will look? Tell us in the comments section below!
This revamp is very good and that is a fact. Why? Because if you sing in a language that might sound odd to the listener you need to highlight the instrumentation to overcome the “oddity” that the language’s sounds may produce in the listener.
The music in this song has been emphasized so that the listener gets into the melody and “forgets” the strange sounds he/she is listening.
You may like this song or not like it but the intention of this new version is very good.
Hi,
You can listen to it here:

Spain would be a great place to celebrate ESC and you know it …
LOL!
Spanish team should aim now at improving big time what’s been their Achilles heel for years (Staging)
They know have a big advantage of knowing how Estonia staging (powerful, dynamic, paced with music) will look a like and how Czechia guy will dance around like it, giving a true entertaining show.
They know a thing or two. Nobody knows about Spain.
Spain has the references to go up a notch or two. If they fell short, kiss goodbye victory chances. Say hello to last positions.
This is PHENOMENAL and I wouldn’t be surprised if Spain won this year. And this is coming from someone who didn’t like the entry at first!
You can revamp the song twenty times, won’t help as the boy will kill it on the live performance….. ? that is if the song itself wasn’t boring enough on its own merits. I guess I’m not a fan of this years Spanish entry. Never been a fan of screaming Spanish fans.
Last sentence=Obviously biased.
Spain shouldn’t care about people like you, but to please those who are liking it and they are a good bunch.
I really love this song :3 I don’t know, it sounds beautiful to me 🙂 Sounds very Disney song / musical, and I like that.
A lot of luck to Spain from Portugal 🙂
The best! Its more epic now. Very beautiful ending
and the true love story, gives an interesting plus when they singing. Congratulations Spain from Rusia 🙂
Ok I have listened it……but I can’t like it because it’s really not my kind of music, because it’s something too prefabricate and artificial…nothing is natural here….they copy la la land but get a creativity maybe….to finish the behavior of the spanishes in their comments and other things, is litteraly childish and unrespectful, I can already say that their nivel is very low I can guess that the majority are young teenagers whose intelligence was eaten by their OT2017, I’m sad for them….for all of that I can’t like this entry even if some persons are trying to oblige everybody… Read more »
“Their nivel”. Spanish reventada detected.
haha spanishes..? Are you sure you’re not spanish too..only a spaniard could make that horrible mistake….
Actually the whole comment its a mistake, be more serious please.
Good job guys ! You are the perfect example of what I’ve said !! Thank you to give me reason !! However no unfortunately for you I’m not spanish….
I don’t know who are you trying to fool. There’s only two languages in which “nivel” is used: Spanish and Portuguese. I’m gonna go ahead and say you’re just bitter at the song and its singers for some reason. It could be that you’re from Portugal, in which case you should worry about Cláudia’s song potentially being considered an “Amar Pelos Dois” spin-off, even when it’s not. It’s okay to have other musical tastes, and to not like “Tu canción”, just like with any other song (a friendly reminder to anyone reading this, obnoxious people included), but you should maybe… Read more »
Hahahaha what a shame …. Que oso “their nivel””
What a shame for Spain to have so stupid fans with a such low LEVEL. All their reactions prove that again and again.”Their nivel is muy pathetic realmente” lol,
go in hell all.
Anda que menudo ridículo colega
I prefer the old version. Now it sounds like an average ballad. I guess i’ll vote for someone else.
Amazing new version!!!
Much better!!!
Amazing, masterpiece, i can not stop to listen this definitive version , sure a winner
They have given it the “La La Land” treatment… Salvador II… Bad option. Never wins.
Overproduced
You mean: Another overproduced one? All of them are too produced. It reminds me to a photoshop picture but in music.
By the way, i love the song.
Yep, Spain kinda feel obliged to this revamp. Listen things like Czechia or Belarus, f.e and compare it to the spanish first version. So much difference.
Take in account the sound quality EBU+RTP are going to deliver. It would clearly evidence big differences in musical production. That would make Spain’s primitive version look cheap against the rest.
This one is ready to compete.
Wow its so beautiful….Reall good revamp
Much, much better!
Best song from Spain since Annabel Conde. The camera angles will be the key to the success of this song, and Spain really needs to improve a lot on that.
True. It actually has been THAT long.
Actually, Spain should have ended top 3 in 2012 imo
I agree! And I think Spain will have its best result since Anabel Conde in 1995.
That’s the year I started to watch the festival.I wasn’t even too used to watch TV.
I remember myself as being a little kid (8 or so) becoming paralyzed when I started to watch that young woman singing so sweetly and being so expressive at the same time.
Probably the first time that I felt something close of admiring someone else and goes related to the liking that I have for this contest.
Only the best melody we ever had in this contest could stop her astounding performance. (Nocturne-Secret Garden)
Amazing song. There’s a lot of overproduced cheap pop and then this one that is unique.
Well, maybe is not a masterpiece like Spanish people think
But with the level of this year, is one of the best. It will work live and sure they’ll have their best results since Ruth and Pastora
I tolerate every opinion but when I read this constant myth that all spaniards are arrogant among their things I can’t bear with it because it’s not true. We even have much more haters inside than outside and I guess everybody has a clue why.
Not to say many european countries are 100x nationalistic than us. Won’t give names.
I think the first part is a little empty, because it’s only the piano and seems the same melody until the end of the first chorus. Then it gets better. There is a heavier instrumentation and more strings. I like the bridge and the a capella part. They sounds great together, but it’s obvious because it’s the studio version. That’s why I still have my doubts about Alfred. Hope he’s improved until the rehearsals. Overall, I think it’s slightly better than the original version. The more I hear it the more I like it. It’s a sweet song but I’m… Read more »
So now he have quality audio. I must say that I was expecting for a revamp that could tone it down a little bit, to make it look more like Almaia’s “City of Stars” rendition. It turns out that they did the exactly opposite and embraced without fear the Disney song mood. It isn’t what I had on mind but it worked very well. The pause leading to a grandiose third act gives it the necessary punch. Now there’s a “love explosion” with big orchestral arrengement. Imagine it like the dance scene between Belle and the Beast. That moment when… Read more »
Divisive performances normally do well. This has like 39k positive and 5k negative in its NF video. That’s a lot of negatives but also A LOT of positives.
Play the positive part.
My advice to them would be: take risks. Please those 39k positives and those who will come in the latter wagons that might still be a lot more positives than negatives.
Exactly. There are people who still hate Conchita and Salvador until today and they won it anyway. Love make people vote. Hate make people whine on the Internet. 😛
What kind of risk do you think they should take with this one?
When I say “take risks” doesn’t mean doing exactly the same as the NF performance, but you must take some essence from there simply because this has been a bop, unexpectedly. Chemistry has to be the same or even better, even if they have to act it a bit. Definitely they must be less touching, but still people will demand some contact between especially at the latter part of the song. The meaning of this song is: “the feeling of getting in love for the first time”, as has happened to them recently, so…still fresh in their minds, I guess… Read more »
On a different occasion I wrote here that I believe the secret about nailing this performance is to find out what to do with them before they meet for their cute dance. So I guess we’re on the same page. People will love their interaction, but if they behave like love birds for too long, this can have the opposite effect.
Progression of events.
Three chorus: “Siento que bailo por primera vez…”
1st Distance between them
2nd Galant meeting “courtship”
3rd Feel the love in a tender way (not a spanish way, that would be more passionate than what we’ve already seen)
3rd (2) Short time dance for five seconds, may work aswell
+ Camera angles (key factor)
+ Light effects (from dark to light)
+ Dress suits (all white for me, both of them… love for the first time)
+ + + many more things
I don’t know about them both wearing white, but I agree on the rest! Especially that camera angles will be the key factor. This performance you described would build up just like the revamped audio version.
That’s just me fabulating.
They may get there with a mic and do nothing special, that’s when spanish seal of no-staging appears and we all facepalm in a deep sense of powerlessness.
Spain has to beef their staging up for once, a true dynamic show that has never been seen in any possible similarity. They won’t get a single point from eastern countries if it feels cheap.
France, Portugal, Italy, Albania, Spain* may give you some points for quality music/vocals performance, but that’s it.
People value visuals a lot these days.
This new version builds up so well.
Azerbaijan 2011 says hi.
People critize Alfred because he has a weaker voice but in fact I see this is a positive. Amaia’s able to shine even more with her sweet voice.
She’s the quality voice and he’s really good at feeling music with his expressions.
This is the way they complement each other and make great chemistry together.

Adorable. I enjoy its tenderness.
This is a hell of a revamp. Fantastic job.
Beautifull
I love this song, beautiful melody like a Disney Film. In my top 3 of this year.
I am Spanish and i like this new versión more tan the previous one but still I need to decide if I like the song (I think now I do not dislike it, though)…
What I do not understand is Spanish reactions to people who do not like the song and say so in here.
Please Spanish eurofans try not to be so immature and weird. People are entitled their opinions. And please (2) don´t come with victim issues “Europe does not love us, people hate us Spaniards”.
Well, I tend to think those immature comments are coming from the teenagers that have come to Eurovision hand in hand of OT. They should stop pushing “Tu canción”, they should accept people can dislake the song. I do also dislike other entries, and so they do. This is definetly making some eurofan grow bad feelings for Alfred and Amaia. I quite understand it, but it is not fair for them.
I prefer the old version of “Tu Cancion”
So sweet. They work very well together. Now, I don’t care if they are a couple or not, what does it matter if the product is good and works? They both seem like very sweet, likable individuals and Alfred especially has this endearing quality about him that makes him look really cute to me. I currently have four favorite songs, but I am not counting this one out yet. I will wait to assess it after every country has released its entry. I loathe Disney ballads and it feels like one in a lot of ways, but I also think… Read more »
What definitely needs to be addressed though: The Spanish tendency to screw up the staging. I hope their broadcaster will not let them down. For god’s sakes, just please don’t make them play two pianos only to get up from them halfway through the song. The sole focus needs to be one these two individulas interacting together.
Yup, I think what people values from them is the way they respect each other and that’s it.
Being in love is not as deep, that’s not a goal by itself, but being so gentle and endearing with any human being, oh yes it should be.
What makes this special in my view is they are so young and so respectful at each other, they seem to be from a past century where people cared much more for the others.
You know, individualistic socities, overtechnologized modern world and all of this…
Exactly. I think that’s why I am drawn to them as a duo, as well. They appear to be very affectionate, thoughtful and caring with each other.
There was no explosion still !!
Also they didn’t change the biggest problem with the song….the guy’s vocals .
The guy, who has a name, Alfred, sings perfectly fine. Who are all of you now? Expert musicians, producers and artists that have all the knowledge about everything all the time? That is called jealousy, stop being so nasty with those who are your favoritos. It is a song’s festival. Just that.

The best song this year HAS TO WIN
Bores me to death, and somehow cringey… Had to stop it half way through. Sorry.
Yes, I agree that this has winning potential, in spite of all the negative energy towards this song in the ESCdom. But staging is definitively key. I would go for a less is more approach, but as usual, Spain might want to go flashy instead. I am nor sure about this revamp, but I seem to be in a minority, as usual 🙂
I think that with this song at last Spain can win Eurovision. It seems out of a movie 😀
“lo mas importante es que te lo voy a servir en plato blanco redondo e a temperatura ambiente”…
I just loved this podcast… first they are explaining how to cut “jamón” and talking about fat, and then they jump to introducing the Spanish entry for ESC… just priceless :D.
The new version is great and will work well in the final, for sure
I still don’t like it :/
It sounds the same…
Maybe because i was never a fan, still am not…
Spain is always overrated in eurovision.
Are you serious? Spain is one of the countries with the worst placement records from the last years. I get Manel’s last place, but Pastora, Ruth, Barei and Edurne were all robbed.
No, they weren’t, Pastora and Ruth’s songs were nothing too remarkable, their score fell solely on their vocals and presence. As for Barei and Edurne, they got more points than they deserved to be honest, the performances were plain ridiculous and the songs (especially Edurne’s) quite dull.
Spaniard here and I fully agree with you. No song was winner material for Spain in the last 15? years, since Beth-Dime: That may have finished top 3 or even winning if she didn’t destroyed it with her vocals. Spain has been a mess doing stagings like always, especially in these last years of modernization. Barei was poor in every aspect, I guess she didn’t even know the meaning of her own song on how to translate it on stage. Edurne was a mess, poorest camera angles ever. Pastora was weak and so void. The only one I would save… Read more »
Padtora’s and Edurne’s songs were as bland as rice with no salt! Bores…
Well, I always despised the song all along but this is actually a good revamp, definitely an improvement. Now they just need to ditch that gooey, snuggled up staging and they can do much better.
Wow Spain, A m a z i n g! Always have a soft spot for Spain, loving that country and been there many times. The food, the language, the culture, the architecture, the cities.. the men. 😉 This song is amazing and the revamp omg. In my top 3 now for sure.
1. Czech Republic,
2. Spainnnn ,
3 België 🙂
Darnit now I am in the mood for some Paella and Sangria.
Yeah, the song really puts you in the mood for some paella and sangria…not.
Oh excuse me grumpy, where did I say it was the song that put me in that mood?
Are you seriously judging the song based on your love for the country? In this case Italy should win every year lol
“This song is amazing and the revamp omg. In my top 3 now for sure.: ”
So, no, I am not.
Calling this boring? Not anymore. First two minutes set up the enjoyable (from start to finish) last minute.
Goes directly to my podcast.
Nice version. Nice song. Nice duo. Good luck Spain. I like it. I think the haters here are just deliberately slanting and cursing every song from every country. They are doing it deliberately to get attention, as they have nothing better to do. So whether you like the song or not, just ignore their nasty comments. Real fans will either love a song , or if it isn’t their taste they would be polite about it and bring some humour into why they don’t like it. After all it is only a song contest. People have the right to say… Read more »
I can’t get why all the hate towards Spain or the Spanish song, I really can’t. Some of you should try to relax a bit
I’m spaniard and it goes both ways sometimes. Impolite people everywhere. I get irritated but there’s nothing I can do. These comment sections used to be better.
Every year happens the same. I sometimos feel like the european punching bag. We have really good artists and music, and people who work really hard in the music entertainment business. I yate where people from other more “important” countries keep treating us with such condescendence, like we are stupid. It is really tiring sometimes. We have bad self esteem already between us, and this only makes us feel worse. ?
I got it before: the charm of a heterosexual duo from a male-dominated culture but barely past puberty it sounded sweet and innocent and the machismo in the lyrics made no difference to me since I could never understand latino singers. Now I don’t get it at all. The overproduced, sprawling, orchestral and europop arrangement ( an iffy combinationation and also a diffy one – in this case an impossible one) overwhelms her child-like girlsh sweet voice and his child-like girlish not so good voice. I do not think they are trying to copy the two latest winners at once.… Read more »
What
on earth
is this.
Thanks for an interesting political analysis. In principal though, it really shouldn’t have anything to do with just one song written for a music talent contest. And arrangements are just… well, arrangements. The song itself hasn’t changed. Neither has the concept.
Disgusting comment.
I feel for spaniards that have to deal with this racism and dictatorship issues. As far as I know it finished more than 40 years ago. Most of those who come here probably weren’t born.
Song is perfectly right as they represent something more valuable than love, but utter respect for each other as human beings within a relationship, as it can be seen in many youtube videos of them from this “OT” academy.
@fan-aUK looooooooool
You crazy girl
Do you even know what are you talking about? Don’t know if this is trolling or the fact that you have a disgusting live and you see threats everywhere. “the charm of a heterosexual duo from a male-dominated culture but barely past puberty it sounded sweet and innocent and the machismo in the lyrics made no difference to me” Stay away with that crap. I’m tired of people like you. The fact that two guys/girls aren’t singing together doesn’t make this song “machista” or “heteropatriarcal”. I don’t going to talk about the political statements you have made after that. It’s… Read more »
wow that’s so beautiful 😮
this is precious, the new instrumentation is great and if yhis is a musoc contest, this is on the car.
Cheesy, typical ballad with nothing new to offer. This is my 36 place.
No…loving girl..not only 36 place, we have to kill both of them becuase according to you it is a boring and cheesy song. Your hate and evil do not leve you hear this beatiful song. To say that this is the worst song in the eurofestival can be only explained coming from a person full of prejudicie and dirty soul
Hi sweetie. Am i allowed to dislike this song? I think i am. And so are many others. It’s because of fans like you that people are starting to hate the couple as well. It’s not about hate or being evil, it’s my PREFERENCE. Deal with it.
Person 1: “cheesy, typical ballad with nothing new to offer” You: “WHY DO YOU HATE IT YOU HATER BLAH BLAH EVIL PERSON” Let me help you reading the first comment, my friend. There’s no mention of “killing anyone”, “hating anything”, “worst song in the eurofestival” or any kind of prejudice. Ironically, the only prejudice here comes from you, stating that if someone doesn’t enjoy the song, they have a “dirty soul”. And, unfortunately, what Olga says in the comment below is true – defending a song in such an offensive manner starts the whole hate machine. NO ONE HATES ANYONE… Read more »
You crazy too. This song is VERY dull and it IS one the worst songs this year. Please ntoe, that does not mean I want to execute them anywhere.
Now i hate it even more.
It’s weird I didn’t like it but now I really do. I actually don’t know what they changed because before I found it so annoying I didn’t remember anything about it lol
That was a demo w/lots of piano
This is a “ready to perform on stage” song with some new arrengements here and there
Same melody base is still there (apart from that silence, very well put to give a strong 3rd chorus start)
