Alfred Amaia Spain OT Eurovision 2018 Tu canción

In recent months Alfred and Amaia have kept Spain under their spell — first by falling in love on OT and then by winning the OT Eurovision gala with their lovely duet “Tu canción”. They’ve subsequently performed their entry all over Spain, and have been making tweaks along the way.

The music video will be released on Friday. But on Tuesday Cadena Dial spoiled the surprise about the song’s revamp, playing the final version of “Tu canción”.

The simple song now has stronger instrumentation, giving it a bit more of oomph, and there’s a spectacular new ending. But don’t let me tell you. RTVE released the high quality version of the song and you can listen to it below.

“Tu canción” now has a more polished sound, with a more complex piano base, more strings and some other swelling instrumentation to enhance key moments of the song.

Amaia and Alfred also sound better together, with Alfred projecting a clearer voice without his trademark flourishes. This will likely reduce the occasional comparisons to a frog that we have seen on YouTube and elsewhere. Their vocals blend smoothly and despite the heavier instrumental, they remain the true stars of the entry.

We have to talk about what really has us excited: the big climax. OH. THE. CLIMAX.

The “ooooh, ooooh, oooh” part that felt a bit languid before now paves the way for a proper explosion.

There’s little a cappella section while they sing “Siento que bailo por primera vez”, and then boom! The big orchestra appears and it’s as if Heaven’s gates are opening.

RTVE will reveal the official music video for “Tu canción” on Friday the 9th. As for now, you can take a look at the snippet, which looks stunning already.

“Tu canción” music video snippet

What do you think of the new version of “Tu canción”? Do you prefer it to the original? Are you excited about the climax? How do you think the music video will look? Tell us in the comments section below!

This revamp is very good and that is a fact. Why? Because if you sing in a language that might sound odd to the listener you need to highlight the instrumentation to overcome the “oddity” that the language’s sounds may produce in the listener.
The music in this song has been emphasized so that the listener gets into the melody and “forgets” the strange sounds he/she is listening.
You may like this song or not like it but the intention of this new version is very good.

Spanish team should aim now at improving big time what’s been their Achilles heel for years (Staging)

They know have a big advantage of knowing how Estonia staging (powerful, dynamic, paced with music) will look a like and how Czechia guy will dance around like it, giving a true entertaining show.

They know a thing or two. Nobody knows about Spain.

Spain has the references to go up a notch or two. If they fell short, kiss goodbye victory chances. Say hello to last positions.

You can revamp the song twenty times, won’t help as the boy will kill it on the live performance….. ? that is if the song itself wasn’t boring enough on its own merits. I guess I’m not a fan of this years Spanish entry. Never been a fan of screaming Spanish fans.

Ok I have listened it……but I can’t like it because it’s really not my kind of music, because it’s something too prefabricate and artificial…nothing is natural here….they copy la la land but get a creativity maybe….to finish the behavior of the spanishes in their comments and other things, is litteraly childish and unrespectful, I can already say that their nivel is very low I can guess that the majority are young teenagers whose intelligence was eaten by their OT2017, I’m sad for them….for all of that I can’t like this entry even if some persons are trying to oblige everybody… Read more »

I don’t know who are you trying to fool. There’s only two languages in which “nivel” is used: Spanish and Portuguese. I’m gonna go ahead and say you’re just bitter at the song and its singers for some reason. It could be that you’re from Portugal, in which case you should worry about Cláudia’s song potentially being considered an “Amar Pelos Dois” spin-off, even when it’s not. It’s okay to have other musical tastes, and to not like “Tu canción”, just like with any other song (a friendly reminder to anyone reading this, obnoxious people included), but you should maybe… Read more »

Yep, Spain kinda feel obliged to this revamp. Listen things like Czechia or Belarus, f.e and compare it to the spanish first version. So much difference.

Take in account the sound quality EBU+RTP are going to deliver. It would clearly evidence big differences in musical production. That would make Spain’s primitive version look cheap against the rest.

This one is ready to compete.

I think the first part is a little empty, because it’s only the piano and seems the same melody until the end of the first chorus. Then it gets better. There is a heavier instrumentation and more strings. I like the bridge and the a capella part. They sounds great together, but it’s obvious because it’s the studio version. That’s why I still have my doubts about Alfred. Hope he’s improved until the rehearsals. Overall, I think it’s slightly better than the original version. The more I hear it the more I like it. So now he have quality audio. I must say that I was expecting for a revamp that could tone it down a little bit, to make it look more like Almaia’s “City of Stars” rendition. It turns out that they did the exactly opposite and embraced without fear the Disney song mood. It isn’t what I had on mind but it worked very well. The pause leading to a grandiose third act gives it the necessary punch. Now there’s a “love explosion” with big orchestral arrengement. Imagine it like the dance scene between Belle and the Beast. Divisive performances normally do well. This has like 39k positive and 5k negative in its NF video. That’s a lot of negatives but also A LOT of positives.

Play the positive part.

My advice to them would be: take risks. Please those 39k positives and those who will come in the latter wagons that might still be a lot more positives than negatives.

When I say “take risks” doesn’t mean doing exactly the same as the NF performance, but you must take some essence from there simply because this has been a bop, unexpectedly. Chemistry has to be the same or even better, even if they have to act it a bit. Definitely they must be less touching, but still people will demand some contact between especially at the latter part of the song. The meaning of this song is: “the feeling of getting in love for the first time”, as has happened to them recently, so…still fresh in their minds, I guess… Read more »

On a different occasion I wrote here that I believe the secret about nailing this performance is to find out what to do with them before they meet for their cute dance. Progression of events.

Three chorus: “Siento que bailo por primera vez…”

1st Distance between them
2nd Galant meeting “courtship”
3rd Feel the love in a tender way (not a spanish way, that would be more passionate than what we’ve already seen)

3rd (2) Short time dance for five seconds, may work aswell

+ Camera angles (key factor)
+ Light effects (from dark to light)
+ Dress suits (all white for me, both of them… love for the first time)
+ + + many more things

Spain has to beef their staging up for once, a true dynamic show that has never been seen in any possible similarity. They won’t get a single point from eastern countries if it feels cheap.

France, Portugal, Italy, Albania, Spain* may give you some points for quality music/vocals performance, but that’s it.

I am Spanish and i like this new versión more tan the previous one but still I need to decide if I like the song (I think now I do not dislike it, though)…
What I do not understand is Spanish reactions to people who do not like the song and say so in here.

Well, I tend to think those immature comments are coming from the teenagers that have come to Eurovision hand in hand of OT. They should stop pushing “Tu canción”, they should accept people can dislake the song. I do also dislike other entries, and so they do. This is definetly making some eurofan grow bad feelings for Alfred and Amaia. I quite understand it, but it is not fair for them.

What definitely needs to be addressed though: The Spanish tendency to screw up the staging. I hope their broadcaster will not let them down. Yup, I think what people values from them is the way they respect each other and that’s it.

Being in love is not as deep, that’s not a goal by itself, but being so gentle and endearing with any human being, oh yes it should be.

What makes this special in my view is they are so young and so respectful at each other, they seem to be from a past century where people cared much more for the others.
