surie storm revamp release uk eurovision 2018

Last week brought the “Beast from the East” and “Storm Emma” to the UK. Now, it’s time for Storm SuRie. The UK’s hope for Eurovision 2018 has teased us on social media for weeks about a potential revamp of her entry.

And tonight, the revamp of “Storm” has landed on selected streaming services at midnight across Europe.

SuRie — “Storm”

Available on Apple Music and Deezer

After last year’s very well regarded revamp of “Never Give Up On You”, it’s clear that the BBC are hoping for similar success this year.

Initially, however, it seems that this might actually be more of a remastering rather than a revamp. There’s some changes: the piano introduction at the start of the song is gone, for example.

It also sounds like there’s more backing to SuRie’s vocal, giving more attention to arguably one of the best parts of the song. Whilst it’s maybe not quite as soaring in parts, there’s now an added “oomph” to make up for it.

Ultimately, it doesn’t feel like anything has really been taken out of the track — which can only be seen as a positive. For those hoping for a radically different track, they might be left out at sea.

One thing is definitely a certain: SuRie is winning many fans over on her social media. Her honest, witty tweets have not only been keeping fans updated, but seem to be building her more support too.

SuRie’s also tweeted positively about Belgium’s 2018 act, Sennek, and her recently released “A Matter of Time”. It’s clear she still has a lot of love for the country she’s provided backing vocals for twice before — even jokingly (we think!) offering to do them for Sennek too!

In fact, her Belgian connections were a feature on her social media elsewhere too. In mid-February, SuRie met up with 2017 entry Blanche once more for dinner (along with SuRie’s dog!)

What do you think of the “Storm” revamp? Do you think that it’s a good move by the UK, or should they have left “Storm” alone? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!

Foreeeever, foreeeever. .. stoooorm … and togeeeether etc. That’s what destroy the song totalt for me. For meeeeee, foreeever.

I’m not sure if I like this or not. I feel like the chorus has lost its power somewhere in the revamp and there’s a bit too much going on. If they could fix the chorus and make it more powerful, this revamp could be much better.

As it’s gone along this entry has gotten better each time. I wasn’t mad on the studio version, she killed it live and now it’s amazing. Well done UK.

I wasn’t a fan at first, but this is a real grower! It may not be the best song, but it’s not that bad! It has this anthemic quality and it sounds even better live. I’m sure people in the arena will sing along.

I have to say that this is an ear worm! It really gets in there… before the national selection I really didn’t get it, however now I find myself humming along to it constantly.

I don’t think the “revamp” makes a major difference but SuRies live performance in Lisbon I think will elevate the song. Not a winner by a long shot, but in my opinion definitely not deserving of so much negativity! ?

Isn’t it? I’ve listened to it 4 times (when UK contestants were released, 2 times on the national final and a last time yesterday to check the remastering of the song) and I’m also constantly humming it. I’m not saying that this is good, that it will do well on Eurovision (I would bet the opposite to be honest) or that I would vote for that, but somehow I can’t forget it and I blame SuRie for her engaging performance on the national final.

I really want to support this song, but the revamp is proof that you can’t polish a turd. Her performance in Brighton left me unenthused stood just 10m away, but at least her personality was allowed to come through to the point where I was almost enjoying the live video; the new version seems to do all it can to dilute even that. I didn’t get the enthusiasm for her in the final, so maybe something had passed me by this time too, but this doesn’t do anything for me.

I love this! It stands up well against the 32 songs already released. I was rooting for Asanda and Raya before the BBC selection show, but their performances came across as cheap and were sadly not delivered very well. Suri stood out to me for her cool, clean, elegant and fresh performance! I’ve got a feeling the UKs entry this year has been received just as Belgiums did in 2016 (Laura Tesoro with ‘What’s the Pressure’). Loads of people hating on it pre contest and completely writing it off but falling for it after they see the performance on the… Read more »

What’s with all the negative comments!! If this was Sweden or Denmark sending this song you would all be saying how great this song was. Yes UK has sent some awful songs in the past however, we deserved a better placing last year and more than 12 televotes and also in 2008 and 2014. I have listened to the songs so far and what a lot of crap. The French song is nothing special. Finland is sending a cheap version of Lady gaga/kylie. Spain is Azerbaijan 2011, Australia don’t get me started on why the hell they are still in… Read more »

She has a verry good voice, but she deserve a better song. That’s my opinion.

I think if UK would have a really god song it would be better if the audience had the opportunity to listen at it on the semi first. I think that it’s a mistake not to.

I like the Storm revamp/remaster. I prefer how the instrumental sounds at the beginning (one of my favourite parts of the song) and the stronger beat does give the chorus more oomph. And as we saw from You Decide SuRie can absolutely elevate a song live. Anyone who was expecting a Never Give Up on You scale revamp was destined to be disappointed as that song had far less production to it at You Decide.

If Russia or even countries like Denmark sends songs like ours: “Well Produced” “Not really into it” “Should do well” When the UK sends them: “Cringe” “made me want to hurl” “you DESERVE last place” smh… Hatrid online is so cruel

Everytime I hear this, I have this urge to listen to Selena Gomez’s Wolf. If they really wanted a revamp, they should have just revamped it similar to Selena’s song. Not a fan of Selena, but I felt the composers were trying to capture that vibe, but made a bargain basement version of it. I’m sure Surie’s a sweetheart in real life, but her blandness cannot & will not save this song. Last place for me

Also, some people are made to be lead singers, some are really just for back-up. She’s more of the latter. No star quality. Surie, just continue to sing back up, your voice is so anonymous, lead singers have distinctive voices

UK Eurovision fans care, we care a lot.

The BBC presents songs for us to choose from and we have to pick the best from a bad bunch sometimes.

This honestly isn’t that bad. The versus are great and the strings in the pre-chorus are excellent! However I think the chorus, may have been a little bit too overproduced. They tried to add too much I think. It’s still a good song and I am still proud of our entry this year! The last three years have been amazing compared to the disaster that was Electro Velvet! We may not do that well in Lisbon but it’s an entry that won’t be an embarrassment.

The UK will not come last. It’s definitely not a top 10 song but at least SuRie can sing, and it is one of those songs which is better live than listening to it on the radio. There are lots of singers who can not sing in this competition this year and there are a few songs which are worse than this. I think Europe expects the UK to send their big artists, but I agree the BBC are not showing what the UK really has to offer through this platform. The BBC’s whole perception of the ESC is still… Read more »

Is it me or her voice sounds deeper in the chorus? Did they change the tone?
I like the verses better, the chorus not so much. Like the beat in the chorus, it gives the song energy. Not much difference from the original.

I dunno why i was expecting so much more, cause the way the original is theres not really much u can do without changing whole chunks of the song. i think it is very slightly better, makes it a tad less bit boring, but theres something annoying about the chorus which i hope gets drowned out in everything else. at the end of the day, the UK are never gonna win unless we send a 10/10 song or get some borderline pop star to perform like Matt Terry or something. this song will come like 17-25 in the final imo

I’m sorry, but I’m actually happy that the last place in the final will not be Germany again since UK already saved us from that. 😛 The ”revamp” didn’t really Change anything. It’s the same Problem that Germany had the last years… No bad song, but just boring and forgettable.

I don’t think so. Germany may not stand out as much as Estonia, Hungary or anything, but it’s quite emotional. I see People voting for us and the Jury might give us some Points aswell. I certainly don’t see us making the top 10, maybe we’ll be between 15th and 20th place. Spain is just so polarizing that it CAN’T be last, we should have leaned that by now.

If there’s a Big 5 nation that can end up on last place this year, that’s UK. But I would say that if SuRie performs with the same energy of the national final, she can avoid that. So I think a borderline qualifier from the semis will be the last place. I have no idea yet about who could be this “sacrificial lamb” though.

I think Surie might not be last, I was just pointing out that there is a less interesting Big Five act this year, so the 25th place is safe for us Germans at least ;D In the last years the last place has always been a big five act, but that could Change 2018.^^

Spain is always polarising.

The problem with Germany is that it’s incredibly forgettable – it’s hard to remember it after 5 minutes, never mind after 25 other songs. As we saw with Levina, Jamie Lee and Ann Sophie, people didn’t dislike the songs, they just forgot about them.

That moment when you have to spout bs to defend your country’s song. Swear that if you watch SuRie’s NF performance THE WHOLE HALL is singing along. They are both not going to come last but to say that the UK is forgettable is nonsense especially when your song has no hook.

The problem with this song is, it isnt the best in its genre. Azerbaijan and also Australia (if was still a fckn demo) are so much stronger and will make UK forgotten, unfortunately. SuRie is so likeable, i wish her the best, but im afraid she’ll end up disappointed

The song is simply too weak, SuRie can’t do much about it, no matter how hard she’s trying.

About Lucie: Interestingly enough, I still like listening to her song BUT only the original version, because it sounds much more organic and raw. The subtle changes in the Eurovision version did not do anything for me.

I wish that would help matters and be an “easy fix”. But in my opinion, the BBC has had the reins of Eurovision UK for far too long. It might be time to change broadcasters. What do you all think? As for the fact that the British public voted for the song in a National Final – part of the problem with that process is a lack of transparency about the results. Also, who is actually voting? This year’s final didn’t have a fantastic viewership. I wonder if the UK’s enthusiasm for Eurovision is going out of the door along… Read more »

The studio version of this song is boring. Only the live performance brings it to life. The same as last year.
Last year UK did well because the jury overrated it. Overrated it a lot! I’m not sure about this year. The jury loves balads, this is pop, so… They will probably go with Spain or Germany this year. And the public will ignore it.
UK will have a top10 when they actually start caring about eurovision.

the UK does care about eurovision, we just don’t do it very well and no one likes us. our song last year was worthy of winning if it had been sent by like Poland or Russia, but because it’s the UK, a top 15 result is respectable

I’m in two minds on this song. One mind their is this “Perfect Strangers” (Jonas Blue & JC Cooper) style revamp to which I don’t dislike. On the other mind their is the fact the BBC promised us the world and we did not receive it. But, their is potential with this revamp, and like last year the revamp wasn’t on anybody’s radar until rehearsals started where it went from 30ish place to 5th place in the bookmakers predictions, because of what…the staging knocked everyone out of the f***ing water.
