Here come the girls! Sixteen female soloists will take to the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon in May.

These ladies don’t come to play, they come to slay and if they have their way they’ll be the ones walking away with the Eurovision trophy at the end of the Grand Final on May 12.

Nine female soloists have won the Eurovision Song Contest in the 21st century and the class of 2018 have a lot to live up to. Winners like Lena, Loreen and Jamala have gone on to become Eurovision icons.

This year’s female soloists come from all corners of Europe and they all bring different genres to the table.

We think they have what it takes, but we want to know what you think. Who’s your favourite female soloist at Eurovision 2018? You can review the songs below and can then vote for as many of the ladies as you like. But beware, you can only vote once, so make your vote count: don’t leave your henny hanging!

Let us know who you’re rooting for in the comments below too.

We’ll close the poll and reveal the results prior to first rehearsals in Lisbon!

Definitely Estonia. I think there is no female vocalist like Elina this year!
Then I’ll go with Finland, Israel and Australia.

I voted for Netta, because of her originality. Estonia, cause the woman rocks.
Belgium because I think the girl has a fantastic voice (even though I hate the song).
And Saara, because I love her. 😀

Songs aside, SuRie by far. She is genuine, hilarious and absolutely lovely. She should be topping the poll here if people voted on personality.

My top three soloists are Belgium, Greece, and Estonia. They’re each doing very different things, but I like all of those things and they do them well.

That said, I honestly enjoy most of the others, as well, and Cyprus and Finland and Israel aren’t far off the leaders, for me. There’s very little here that I actively dislike. This is truly a strong year.

It is a difference between ‘yout favourite’ and ‘best’ female vocalist, but the question seems to appear both way. About who’s the best, I don’t think there is any doubt, there are more good voices, but Elina is by far the best. She’s from a category from another level of music.

lluussoo

Agree. She’s from the category of emotionless robot that can reach ridiculously high notes. It’s not music, it’s sports. She could definitely win a gold medal in the Olympics of Pitch, but not Eurovision. Sorry.

@ Illuussoo
Well Eurovision is kinda Olympic Games of music…
Perhaps you are a robot if you aren’t able to feel the emotion and recognize it as a song, at least the melody part? I guess the force is too powerful for you to handle.
But hey, you’re entitled to not to like it, tastes are different anyways…

This is completely irrelevant to the topic (and the year) but that video reminded me of some videos I saw of Hovi Star in the same competition and I’m still flabbergasted as to why his career hasn’t blown up. His talent and charisma are off the charts.

Netta is great, too.

Toy definitely wins the most disappointing chorus award this year. The build-up is great but the chorus is absolutely terrible by comparison.

For me, Sennek and Netta seem like the most talented, well-rounded artists. There are many talented vocalists, but having a great voice usually doesn’t get you that far. For example, Saara Aalto is a great singer (her voice is not everyone’s cup of tea but I think it’s undeniable that she’s gifted), but I think she’s mediocre at best as a songwriter and her “artistic vision” is very lackluster.

I can confirm that Elina can sing outside of opera. I have seen her singing some songs that weren’t opera in our local tv shows several years ago. It was before she started to take opera seriously. Elina still can sing non-operatic songs, but she likes opera the most 🙂

Stop making Spain not happen too and respect everybody’s opinion. A lot of people like Spain’s entry and they are not openly supporting it because of you haters answering against them. Bullying. And yes, in my opinion Amaia has the most beautiful and sweet voive I ve heard in a long time, but she is not included obviously in the soloist poll.

Why don’t you respect his opinion too? Talk about freedom of speech huh? If he hates it he has every right of expressing it, it’s not ‘hate’. There’s nothing hateful or bullying about what he said.

Football is about whole world. Let’s create a new Real Madrid in London. Real Madrid is white, Arsenal FC will be white and red as Poland. I’m from Poland of course. New outfits will… Read more »

Won’t deny that anti-Semitism might play a part in the Israeli backlash, but it’s more likely due to how polarising the song is. People who loved Made of Stars will likely be unable to stand this.

Actually, only two duets (Italy and Spain), but several duos in which one is a vocalist and the other is instrumentalist (France, Switzerland, Macedonia). Also, few groups, some with one vocalist (Hungary, Romania), some with many (Georgia, Moldova, Serbia). And there is San Marino – too disproportionate to be a duet, yet Jenifer’s role is too big to say Jessika is a soloist.

Israel’s poor staging left them in 35th place in 2014 with one of the best songs competing that year. They don’t always get it right.

Moreover, unlike their last three songs, this will be difficult to stage if they want to avoid being seen like a joke.
