Mikolas Josef Czech Republic Eurovision 2018 Lie To Me Record Deal Sony

At last month’s Eurovision PreParty Riga, he told wiwibloggs that he was in talks with some big record labels. And today, Czech Republic’s Mikolas Josef  put pen to paper and signed a worldwide record deal with Sony Music and RCA Records.

The “Lie To Me” singer excitedly broke the news across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“Time for the big news!”, he wrote. “After 8 years of working independently I just signed a worldwide record deal with Sony/RCA! Thank you so much to everyone who made it possible! #Sony #RCA #WeDidIt!!!”. His update concludes with the hands folded in prayer emoji.

The message is accompanied by a number of behind-the-scenes images from inside the label’s Munich offices in Germany. They include an eye-catching shot of Mikolas standing beneath the world famous Sony Music logo. We also see him signing the all important contract and rubbing shoulders with a selection of top music execs.

Today’s events place Mikolas in some elite company. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Shakira and Miley Cyrus are just some of the names already on Sony Music and RCA Records’ books.

The deal has been some time in the making, and the rising star even alluded to it during our interview with him in Riga.

“We are having talks right now with some recording companies, some quite big ones. And maybe soon enough I will not be so independent, and there will be somebody to help me out with all this stuff, so that I can work faster and hopefully better. So we’ll see how that goes.”

Evidently, all went well.

And so a new chapter of Mikolas’ career begins. While life as an independent artist surely had its perks, we suspect the Eurovision 2018 hopeful won’t miss certain aspects too much. In the same interview, he touched on some of the difficulties which arise when flying solo.

“It’s super difficult. And you will find yourself in a position where you have to be saving a lot of money. So, that’s sometimes the reason why I do everything, why I direct and produce it and call the camel lady and do all the organisation. Because, if I had to pay somebody I would just not be able to do it at this standard.”

Mikolas Josef Interview at Eurovision PreParty Riga 2018

While record label backing may make things easier going forward, Mikolas’ schedule remains hectic. The ink had barely dried on his new contract, before he was off to Britain for tomorrow night’s London Eurovision Party.

He finished his day by posting a tired looking selfie to his Instagram story, simply captioned “WHAT A DAY!”.

The man better get some shut-eye, because he’s also set to land down in Israel, the Netherlands and Spain in the coming weeks. Then it’s time for Eurovision in Lisbon. And who knows what will come after that.

What do you think? Are you excited to see Mikolas make it big? Is this a sign of things to come at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

Good for him. But where are the shirtless photos?

So the “Justin Bieber” formula is now bringing this lad into the game? I remember when someone tried with French Justin-Timberlake-wanted-to-be-but-no-way Matt Pokora who at the time collaborated on an English album with Timberland and flopped in the first second. And I wonder, when will this industry and the people dreaming of being in the industry realize that replicating what already exists NEVER works … the public will tell you that right in front of your face!

Rather a sign of a possible debut album coming. Or at least a new single soon.
But it would be nice, if he won.

It would be a dream! ?? Hopefully we’ll get to the final. I am afraid that we will be shock nonqualifiers because there are many great songs in the semifinal 1

He deserves this. He has worked so hard, on his own. Congrats!

Not surprising. I wish great things for him. He’s fresh and current and seems to have good creative instincts, which is rare and valuable.

Someone’s going places. Good for him, hopefully. Certainly seems like a better a career than ending up on one of those Czech adult film clips, like so many young Czechs do. 😛

The fact that you know about adult film industry says more about you than about him.

Yes, you’re right. Who are those who know about those things in the first place?

I’m surprised he used to be a model. He’s not bad looking by any means but he definitely looks better from the side than the front. Maybe that’s why in his music video, he’s almost exclusively filmed from the side.

But well, you don’t have to look good in order to model… and it depends on what he modeled for, if he was a runway model then he was one of the better looking ones.

So happy for Mikolas. Now he will be able to focus even more on his music cause until now his whole career and all that goes with it was in his hands and he wasted energy on some things that now Sony team will do for him.

We all know how well signing to a huge label did to other ESC independent artists like Barei… Hoping the best for him though, with Sony’s support his song could get some airplay across Europe (and Australia).
