She’s been a musician for more than a decade.

But that hasn’t stopped critics coming for Eleni Foureira‘s vocals, which they say could mean Cyprus “crashes” out of the semi-finals.

So on Thursday the Greek star who rose to fame in girlband Mystique released an acoustic version to silence her haters. Mystery lifted, beautiful voice revealed…

ELENI FOUREIRA ACOUSTIC VERSION OF “FUEGO”

Catching some #Fuego vibes in the studio… Not long to go… ?

Posted by Eleni Foureira / ????? ???????? on Thursday, April 12, 2018

And after that performance, we’d say she’s achieved it.

The performance is stripped back in every sense of the phrase.

In the clip, which she shared on her Facebook page, Eleni rocks a relaxed crop top-tracksuit bottoms combo. She’s joined by a simple piano compliment and keep her eyes closed throughout: This woman is a musician and she wants fans to know it.

The performance is note perfect. The clip is only an excerpt but that’s more than enough to know the lady can sing. The next step will be nailing the choreography.

ELENI FOUREIRA’S ROAD TO EUROVISION

Eleni has stepped up her domestic promo tour in recent weeks.

Last week she bagged the cover of Downtown Magazine. In the stunning cover snap, the Greek star becomes a lady in red. She rocks red leather, on red lace and serves major face.

The star used the interview to discuss her relationship with Olympiacos F.C. player Alberto Botía and upbringing in Albania in the 1990s. She said she only has “fond” memories of her childhood there and visits frequently to see her grandparents:

“To tell the truth, I have only fond memories: four siblings and a great family. I remember beautiful years, that were pure, without cunning, without ugly pictures, and then suddenly I remember that everything has changed, we went to war with bullets, by force.

“Of course I go back to Albania often because my grandparents are there. They’re happy for me and proud of everything I’ve achieved.”

Her family moved to Greece when she was young due to the Albanian civil war in the 1990s.

Eleni will close the first semi-final with “Fuego” on May 8.

Still sounds rather weak despite being studio processed andauto-tuned.

Eleni sings live and dances at the same time in live concerts in greece and nails every performance. She’s really a great singer and dancer who doesn’t miss a note.

This is a fun party song and it’s fresh. I love it. Hope she gives a great performance I want her to slay

I’m not impressed, even if it was a decent performance.

This is one of those songs that rely on staging more than vocals. If they get it right, her performance will be fun and memorable and no one will care if she is the best vocalist of the night, or not. This is a pop dancing song, not so much a “diva” song.

This song is less about raw vocal power and more about the fun energy it brings.
With backing vocals (Like almost everyone uses) and a good visual performance this song should have no trouble doing well especially with the televote.

I like Fuego and want Cyprus to do well, but this isn’t exactly reassuring. She’s obviously not singing live here and it’s still very flat and strained. I have serious doubts about whether she’ll be able to pull off those bridges in tempo while dancing. But I guess she could always let the backing vocalists do most of the work.

flawless acoustic version, nah it’s just heavily auto-tuned

flawless vocals are from Waylon the Great, Netherlands the Great

Well to be fair, that wasn’t really a live performance. I mean, she should be able to sound somewhat decent in a recording studio right?

I hope she will do fine but it’s not like she is going to release a video of herself sounding terrible.

thats obese? tell us about that, while eating your pizza in front of a computer and having such a miserable life that you bully a singer for her body. I mean, at least she is not as pathetic as you, dump boy.

What I don’t like about the song is what most people are interested in – that she tries to sell it completely with her sexy body, beauty and sexy dancing and with fashion – but I like the song a lot, it’s my guilty pleasure – I just enjoy it. But honestly I fear that live it won’t sound as good. And I fear that i won’t like her dancing live as much as I like watching the very well produced video (again a guilty pleasure). I am not a Diva lover. To me beauty is no achievement – it’s… Read more »

I’m with you. Among all the generic songs this year, I think Cyprus and Finland are the best ones as I believe they have convincing performers. But live everything can change, so we’ll wait and see.

Even in this slow version ,which is much easier, her singing is not perfect…It’s not hate.Eleni is a great performer for me but not a good vocalist.

It sounds great and it’s good to know that she can sing – however singing softly while sitting during the acoustic version is quite different to singing at full force while dancing during the actual thing.

I thought she had massive amounts of hair – but in this video she managed to “cooling down” them? Where are they left?

Anita

The first 25 seconds are really good and sound like in the video… after that it lacks the quality I am used to from the video – but I guess the backing singers will fix that.
I guess I will be a bit disappointed by the live version but not much I hope. Is she performing in Amsterdam or Madrid?

I know every year the diva lovers have to praise a random diva, but the fact that she can sing an acoustic version of “Fuego” clears up anything about how her live performance will be in May. Singing while dancing has nothing to do with an acoustic version.

I don’t really care too much about Cyprus this year, but I don’t agree with the headline. She isn’t going to silenced anyone until the rehearsals in Lisbon start.

It’s flawless if you recently suffered head trauma or/and you used psychoactive substances.

Even with all this post-production, it’s off the key in some notes.

You guys know it’s almost impossible to dance and sing perfectly at the same time, right? So, obviously it’s not going to sound exactly like this which will probably lead to comments like “she can’t sing”

I’m so tired of the term “haters”. If one doesn’t like something, he/she is a hater. Here’s the deal: If someone releases a work of art, he or she exposes himself/herself to public opinion. There is no rule that everybody has to like everything.

Well, everybody was concerned about her not having strong voice to perform on the big stage. Not about her ability to sing acoustic versions.

As a professional filmmaker, I can tell the audio track was added post-production… meaning the recording you see was not live audio.

Haters gonna hate I guess. It was by no means a perfect or flawless vocal but the girl CAN sing, give her some credit. I’m guessing that’s why she released this, to shut up the critics. I’m optimistic about this now after hearing this snippet of the live vocal.

I didn’t say anything about her vocal ability. Just stated a production fact. As far as her vocals, I could care less. She’s famous in her own right and even on a bad day sings better than me 🙂

I have no idea how one would know such a thing from seeing this (if true) but… isn’t it possible that they simply made the video with a smart phone (‘cos it’s cheap) and THEN added the sound from whatever source her mircrophone is connected to? To get a better sound quality I mean? This would afford them the opportunety to tamper with the vocal, true. But it doesn’t mean they neccessarily did what you’re suggesting. Having said that, I agree with most people here. It sounds good, I like the tone of her voice… but try this again while… Read more »

Well, that is possible but the microphone is likely connected to that computer and you can put certain effects to “auto tune” in some way. It automatically plays back the effect version. And I can tell you there are slight effects. One is echo or reverb, and another is for pitch. Im 100% certain the voice is not natural. Again, nothing bad about her voice… Just stating what I hear.

Fair enough. The amount of cheating done absolutely everywhere IS staggering. And the odds of that happening go up a notch if a singer is considered attractive (and might have gotten the opportunety because of that rather because of talent). Not sharing your technical background I see no way of neither verifying of disproving your asessment of what you hear (it sounds like magic to me that you might be able to tell!). I suppose it doesn’t really matter anyway. How she does in May will. And even if you’re correct, sometimes amazing things are achieved with good backing singers. We’ll… Read more »

Very true. If Ivi made it to the final with her “lovely” vocals then a lot can be said about stage performance and other factors… And there are many others besdies Ivi (Dima Bilan even won and his English singing was shockingly bad) so I don’t mean to single her out haha

yeah, Ivi sounded awful… but it really was (and is) a banger of a song. I still listen to it. My worst example would be Hadise who sounded dreadful. Sure, probably due to her shimmmying around constantly but maybe she should have left that to her dancers then. I was shocked when she came 4th. But as with Ivi (and will with Eleni even if she should suck live) I still listen to the song. That’s one of my take-aways after following the contest for… well, a lifetime. My first lesson was that it’s nice when your favourite wins but… Read more »
