In recent days the OGAE Poll 2018 has been picking up pace and now a further six OGAE fan clubs have revealed their scores. Israel’s Netta is still out in front, but thereafter the scoreboard has shifted

The main mover is Bulgaria’s “common framework” Equinox. They’ve moved from 9th to 4th place, with a new total of 57 points. Equinox picked up 12 points from OGAE Azerbaijan and 8 points from OGAE Ukraine. Their position puts them ahead of Kristian Kostov who finished in seventh with OGAE last year.

France’s Madame Monsieur and Finland’s Saara Aalto continue to battle for second place. The gap between the two has widened slightly. Madame Monsieur are now over 20 points clear of Saara, after picking up plenty of points including two 10s from OGAE Croatia and OGAE Ukraine.

Czech Republic’s Mikolas Josef rounds out the top 5 but is only 3 points clear of Australia’s Jessica Mauboy. Mikolas picked up twelve points from OGAE Slovakia. Slovakia itself won’t vote in Eurovision this year as it isn’t participating.

Australia’s momentum has mellowed, with only four points from OGAE Iceland.

Hello! I completely agree with you. There are 42 entries I’d rather see winning than Toy. I’m rooting for France and Bulgaria is awesome. I also hope Sennek will give a stellar performance and surprise us in a very good way, I would love to see her in the highest ranks. Love to all!

I think Netta will wear the rainbow kimono, the red outfit or the pink wig and hoodie-shirt from the MV.

The Red Outfit would be absolutely stunning. My worry would be the hoodie-shirt, which risks getting her lost and forgotten behind her looper.

It would be frustrating for Israel to win after all its hype when Italy didn’t manage it last year, when I feel that Italy was fantastic and truly deserved to win – it simply peaked too soon and was ‘old news’ by the time the contest rolled around. I’m not much of a fan of Toy – I like parts of it but too many annoying noises for me! Israel doesn’t have the ‘peaked too soon’ factor against it quite so much as it’s not peaked quite so much as Italy (it’s still a long way off Italy’s 100 million… Read more »

I personally like the Israeli song because it is quirky and has a good beat. Something unusual. But i can also understand the naysayers. Truth is that a song like Israel’s needs to be staged perfectly and sung really well or it loses its charm very quickly. If this were a contest of music videos, i’d have been fairly certain Israel would win. But live performances impose a certain line that must be surpassed to stand a chance. You don’t need major staging to perform the Estonian, Bulgarian, or French songs (to name just a few examples). You DO however… Read more »

To be honest with you guys, and that’s only my opinion, I don’t understand the hype for certain songs. Belgium’s entry live seems not to meet the expectations. Australia brings a nice voice but a very generic song with simple lyrics. Norway brings a wierd song wirh a non-impressive violin effect but a great singer and performer. Sweden’s entry…. well, it’s all about visuals, not about music. And Bulgaria’s’ entry is not my cup of tea. Great performance it seems, but it doesnt brings me any emotions. And about the great favourite, Israel’s entry, I understand the initial hype, but… Read more »

You listed Slovenia in your non-dance section. “Hvala, Ne!” is club music. Just turn the volume up and you’ll see. Hardly high art. Probably why I love it. If you seek art in music, you have picked the wrong contest to follow. The closest we came to actual art, was with DiHaj and her very avant garde performance with horse-head man on ladder and everything. Sadly, that kind of out of the box thinking is very rare in Eurovision. P.S. Some people keep dissing the dance music entries as “fast food music”, missing the point in Salvador’s speech. I rather… Read more »

Meant Montenegro, not Slovenia. Sorry for the confusion. Art for me is a quality personal production compared to unpersonal mass production. Then comes a diversity message from this contest that a globalized song in English doesnt meet (for me). And…. if a song contest is not the right place to look for musical art, where is it? Am i the wrong one or those valuing and looking for party entries regardless of the authenticity of their production?

DiHaj sucked. Her emo artsy pretentious performance with no relation to her song whatsoever fooled no one, granted it got 11th in the televote but with only 42 points, 48 points behind 10th placed France and way less points in televote than what Samra did in 2016 with a worse song. So, yeah DiHaj flopped.

oh great, Another Salvador hipster type thinking only his music taste is right. There isn´t any fast- food music and so, there is only music. Every piece of music has a value to those that enjoy it. So you don¨t like dance-songs in ESC fine. But does that mean others are wrong for liking it? Does it make music any lesser cause it¨s up-tempo? Diversity isn´t just about national language songs performed in artsy ways, it is about letting the performer sing and express the song in whatever language and style he or she finds it best. That is diversity.… Read more »

Dear Denis, I guess u didnt get my point. Im not talking about personal tastes as you do. In my personal life I prefer dance music. But in a Song Contest at a European level we, or at least the juries, SHOULD focus on music as art pieces regardless of your personal taste and your Spotify. Musical quality is what we should value along with a message of cultural diversity, not how much you can dance to it. Having said this, it’s difficult for me to figur out which ones I will support in this song contest. I hope my… Read more »

But can’t up-tempo dance be art to? Or is that something only certain songs are? That is a very narrow-minded thinking’
Musical quality? is that restricted to a certain type or genre? That only those in that genre are quality. Isn up-tempo or dance not quality? is it not well-produced? is it not much work behind it? Someone worked hard to get those dance songs out to public. Who are you to judge and look down on other people’s creations and hard work?

You seem to take everything to the personal field, what is something I dislike. The concept of art is the key in this matter and I think I already described mine somewhere above: quality in production, lyrics, voice, a message arriving to the viewer through the screen and cultural diversity since it is a song contest at European scale. A pop song can be art… but Im struggling to find my concept of art among the pop entries this year (what doesnt mean I don’t enjoy them! ): Sorry. Quality for me is something you can find in every genre and tempo. Where you can feel the work behind it. Whether it’s a happy dance pop song or a slow ballad or a rap song. Where everyone involved worked hard to get the result. That is quality. I might not connect to it or get it but I would still call it quality. Even if it’s from Avicii or Khaled. I wouldn’t look down at it just för being a dance song.

That’s fine. But we can have diffrent opinions about that. Also the juries. Who should be the judge to deside what is art?

Eurovision is a show. And it is suppose to entertain. If IT should be in the way you think Im very sure that many will be borede and stop watshing the show. We need diffrent music for all ages ande tast! Otherwise the copetition will die. IT must be fun, we ned to laught, we ned to feel and cry. We need to feel like we want to dance and sing.

In contrast to the polls, I don’t think Israel will ultimately win the contest. France or Bulgaria are the real contenders in my opinion. I’m also really suprised by the fact that both The Netherlands and Portugal haven’t yet received a single point while the songs from Finland and Australia are topping the chart. I don’t want to offend anyone here but let’s just say I’m glad that the final results of the contest will not be determined by these people.

There are a lot of countries some people prejudiced against, not just Israel. And by the way, does Israel vote for Muslin countries? And as for Netta’s song, some people might not like it for various reasons: too alternative, too weird, because of the lyrics, or because they prefer different genres of music

If people don’t like a country, it still doesn’t make them anti-something. Everyone has some favourite countries and some that she/he doesn’t like so much. I’m sure you don’t love all countries as well. It doesn’t mean, that the person hates the country’s nation.

OGAE and Wiwibloggs readers never get it right.

People forget that 95% of Eurovision viewers will not have heard any of the songs before the shows and will have a totally different opinion of songs.

I believe that a big shock for many people this year will be Greece and Israel’s failure to qualify.

Netta’s song isn’t quirky or fun, it’s intensely irritating and will simply annoy most viewers.

I also expect Albania, Switzerland and Macedonia to qualify.
