Israel’s Netta came out on top during the first of Germany’s Songcheck shows. And on Wednesday NDR turned its attention to the second show, which featured the remaining countries in the first semi-final, along with the UK and Spain, who vote in this semi. Eleni Foureira from Cyprus achieved the highest score from the viewers and tonight’s expert panel, moving her into third place overall.

ABOUT THE GERMAN SONGCHECK

The songcheck has taken place every year since Lena’s triumph with “Satellite” at the 2010 contest. Hosted by Alina Stiegler and Stefan Spiegel, the hosts discuss the entries with a panel of experts, and also bring in comments from readers and viewers.

The 2018 programme marks the first time where the expert panel includes new personalities. Along with the usual faces such as Germany’s commentator Peter Urban and radio host Thomas Mohr, we also heard from Levina, drag queen Olivia Jones and our very own William Lee Adams and Deban Aderemi.

SECOND SHOW RANKINGS

Today’s rankings were slightly lower than the top ratings of the first songcheck. Eleni Foureira from Cyprus won tonight’s show with a score of 8.5, followed by Macedonia’s Eye Cue (8.2) and Germany’s neighbour Austria (7.4).

SuRie, representing the United Kingdom, only attained a score of 3.3, putting her in last position. Amaia and Alfred from Spain received an average score of 6.8 from the viewers.

  1. Cyprus 8.5
  2. FYR Macedonia 8.2
  3. Austria 7.4
  4. Finland 7.1
  5. Spain 6.8

  7. Greece 5.7
  8. Switzerland 5.7
  9. Ireland 4.8
  10. Croatia 4.1
  11. United Kingdom 3.3

If they could send their top 10 directly to the final it would mean that they are 9/10 agreeing with me. I’d replace Armenia with Switzerland and they’ll have perfection

I’m curious to know how well Salvador, Sergey, Il Volo and Conchita did in this German Poll in the past. Since all of them won the German televote and went to win the whole tevote as well. 4 years in a row is not bad XD

Yeah, but what exactly makes these two People experts? It’s only the opinion of two People. I am against juries in General, but I understand the concept. However… just giving power to two People out there isn’t really representive imo.

Usually I agree that experts can be useful, but on this I’m with Weißbrot. The only “experts” giving scores are the two hosts, who have proven multiple times that there is no reason to call them experts actually. And what’s even more outrageous is that this “expert vote” doesn’t count 50% in the averages you listed, but 66% (1/3 public, 1/3 host a, 1/3 host b) and that’s just ridiculous. The public vote is just way more relevant and reliable in this show.

I don’t see your point. If you compare the public vote to the experts vote it’s not dramatically different. There is quite a consensus on many of these. Certainly the qualifiers from SF1 are mostly the same.

Doesn’t Change the fact, that the ”expert’ Points are completely irrelevant.

Cyprus: Queen Eleni Foureira goes into detail about her Eurovision staging: The Cypriot 2018 representative seems to be enjoying a lot her Eurovision journey and decided to give the best of herself in Lisbon. Only a few minutes before take-off to Sweden in order to rehearse with all of her team, Eleni Foureira spoke to the camera of a Greek morning TV show. 1.) 5 people on stage; Vrettos Vrettakos to dress her. Eleni Foureira stated that the performance that is now being prepared will be completely different from the one we have already witnessed in the song’s music video.… Read more »

Can someone rank all the songs but without the hosts’ votes, just viewers? I know Lithuania and Estonia did way better there for example.

The voters gave 5 Points, the host dragged it down. Simple.

But OF COURSE they would not rate Greece well???lol I’m just getting bored hahahahh…I don’t have something with Germany…I’m actually visiting Germany in a week…but I think it is now clear that they just do it because it’s Greece…and I’m from DENMARK…Greece has an excellent song this year you can’t give this a 5.7….

Shut up. In Germany we don’t have ANY Problems with Greek People whatsoever… Maybe Greeks think we do, but it’s just not true. They hate us (I experienced it a lot..), but we really don’t dislike them at all. The People gave more than 7 Points, but the hosts didn’t like it. That’s the Problem with wiwibloggs, they just don’t publish the whole side to the Story… Lithuania for example got a 6.8 from the People, but the hosts gave it 1 and 3 Points. It’s ridiculous, only the peopole’s votes should Count…

I think that you exacerbate things.Besides that ,Greece doesnt give a sh*t about eurovision since 2010 and the VAST majority of greek people dislike and pan every single entry we send every year since 1974 (seriously)-even my number one in 2005-!They do not take eurovision seriously as well.Good eurovision results in 2000s came as a result of utilization of eurovision product by greek broadcaster for commercial and political reasons only. And in conclusion greek eurofans are very few just to know

Of Course.. no one does. The english not, the swedish not, the germans not.. Like.. everybody states how his/ her country does NOT take Eurovision serious at all. Honestly.. why does your Country participate then? And why are YOU here commenting? I thought no one gives a sh*t?!

Coming from a Greek living in Germany: the hosts actually had really nice things to say about the Greek entry. They just weren’t as hyped for it as for other entries. And still they weren’t as negative as with Estonia, Lithuania or Spain for instance. Btw the hostess was even a bit suprised by her own low ranking. I honestly didn’t see it coming either because they seemed to be very positive about the song. And if they really hated Greece, they woudn’t have been so enthusiastic about Eleni (who even though she sepresents Cyprus still is a Greece based… Read more »

the end-score depends on the average result between the user-score and the expert-panel-score. so FYR macedonia got second today behind cyprus.
