Aisel Slavis Show

Luna moon her up! Fresh from her appearances in pre-parties in Moscow and Israel, Azerbaijan’s Aisel is continuing her promotional tour across continental Europe, making Bulgaria her latest stop.

The siren from Baku rocked a relaxed combination of black blazer and ripped jeans as she visited the ambassador to Azerbaijan in Bulgaria, asking for the support the Azerbaijani community. Given that Bulgaria will be voting in her semi-final, there’s no doubt going to be some lunar-level local support.

Aisel also performed yet another unique rendition of her Eurovision entry “X My Heart” on the popular Bulgarian television show Slavi’s Show. Looking ethereal and effervescent, the performance highlighted Aisel’s classical training, and provided a whole new take on the dance-heavy track.

See a video of her performance here.

Cementing her view about her Eurovision experience, Aisel reiterated that it’s more about the journey – not the destination. She told media:

“The final position is not of my immediate interest. To me what counts the most is that I have the chance to expose my music to so many people from so many different countries and inspire them. Therefore, I feel that I already won by living the Eurovision Experience”.

Aisel has teamed with the Eurovision “Dream Team” for Lisbon. It includes staging supremo Fokas Evaggelinos, who previously staged Ukraine and Russia in 2008, Greece in 2009 and more recently Russia in 2016.

Aisel will continue her promotional tour through Russia, Albania and Montenegro. She will open the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

Did Aisel’s piano rendition of “X My Heart” tear down your firewalls? How do you rate Aisel’s chances in Lisbon? Let us know in the comments below.

From the “current, uptempo” songs of the year this is the one that stands out. With a good stage presentation this can go very hight.

Qualifier but I don’t see a top spot in the final. Idk. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong 🙂

No final for Azerbaijan. I found the song a generic mess and I do hope Azerbaijan won’t steal someone’s desvergonzada spot in the final!

For me: Israel , Czech Republic , Estonia , Bulgaria ,Azerbaijan and Greece are the only countries that will definitely qualify from semi final 1.

I can think of other countries in her semi I’d prefer to see make the final, but I’ve always found her song fun and pleasant, so I wouldn’t complain if she made the final either.

I agree with most people saying that she can be the dark horse of semifinal 1 and bring Azerbaijan back in top 10

Well… Maybe she already knows that she won’t qualify, and that’s? ok because other countries deserve it more.

Looks like some ”negotiations” are going on again. I love Aisel and she is an amazing singer and such a kind person, but it would be so unfair if this country steals the spot of someone more desrving. Plus it feels like the sim cards are ready .

Oh come on with stupid consiperacy theories.Even if the diaspora votes for her it’s something that happens all the time with several other countries, like Russia , Ukraine , Greece.

The main question here is who is paying you to write these posts with different IPs?
She has one of the best songs in the semifinal, she is doing very well in the preview shows of several countries, and she is having a great promo tour.

I hope one day a broadcaster will sue one of the people posting anonymous posts with grandless accusations. This is the only way this could stop.

I usually like acoustic or stripped down versions since they can bring out the melody more, good singers soften their voice and bring more emotions the song or the song suddenly get a new feeling. Good example is Saara Aalto doing accoustic cover of Monsters.
That being said – I don’t like this version. The music sounds ok, but Aisel sounds like she was still singing to some very loud extra elektronic beat track. It doesn’t fit the mood at all. She doesn’t bring anything new to the song – it still sounds dull and generic to me.

Azerbaijan will not qualify lol. Their song is generic, with lyrics that scream “Twilight Fangirl” and will likely be overstaged. There’s nothing Aisel about “X my heart” and we all (including Aisel herself) know it. Not to mention the first half of that semfinal already HAS five other qualifiers (Belgium, CzechRep, Estonia, Bulgaria and Israel) plus another borderline in Lithuania.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan had some VERY close calls in earlier years, qualifying largely on the basis of what appears to be dumb luck (most notably in 2014 and 2015)

She’s the most obvious 11th placer in that semifinal.

Keep on dreaming. She is not only qualifying but flying into top 10.
She has the most current song of the semifinal
She is a good singer
She is very good looking
She opens the semi final so everyone will remember her

I want to tell something to all those who say that the song “doesn’t fit her”. Lets wait and see the staging. Fokas, the stage director, is genius. In 2013 he made a wrestler athlete (Farid) look gorgeous on stage.

She has one of the best songs this year: current, contemporary and catchy without being “eurovisionish”. With a good staging she can bring Azerbaijan back in top 10.

She I said such a stunning woman and she actually comes across as fairly down to earth. And Im glad that she’s just there to have fun. I really want to like her, but I just can’t get past how awful her song is. Those lyrics…agghh >:(

Mess???? OK do yourself a favour.
Step 1: For two days don’t listen any ESC songs
Step 2: Download Spotify > browse > charts > top 50
And then you will understand how current the song is.

I dont think she will qualify, she doesnt look like she enjoys the song, it feels uncomfortable watching her. This live version is better though, she’s a woman that needs a piano and just a good song, not something generic like X my heart. She should have said no to that song, really.

Why do esc fans use so easily the word “generic”? All mega hits this year were “generic” songs. This is POP music darling. Rita Ora, Pink even Sia released a “generic song”

Nothing wrong with being smart: promo tour in small countries that have an Azerbaijani diaspora and can help her in the voting.

I must concur. Last year Azerbaijan qualified 8th and ended up finishing in the middle of the pack (14th). They haven’t finished in the top 10 since 2013. They are closer to cracking up than making a resurgence…

…Worse yet, Aisel sings in the death spot, the very first contender and song in the contest. By the time CZE, ISR, EST, BUL and GRE are done, she could very well be forgotten by the voters.

Well the opening entry has qualified as often as not having qualified!
It’s better placed than entries on 2nd, 3rd, 13th and 17th positions in recent times
