Fly high, but remember to come down in time for your postcard shoot! It’s the pattern we’ve seen in recent weeks as Eurovision 2018 acts have toured the continent for preview shows, pausing only to squeeze in a trip to Portugal for a bit of filming and, in the case of Poland’s Gromee and Lukas Meijer, a bit of surf, sand and sun!
The DJ-singer duo slipped into their signature black hats and leather jackets and headed to the charming fishing town of Ericeira, which is known partly for its amazing waves. But before you get too excited to see whether the duo still wear their hats and jackets while riding a big one….we have to tell you that plans had to be changed last minute due to the weather.
The back up plan saw the duo longboard instead, which may turn out just as interesting since we heard that Lukas had never been on a longboard before, and that a dog kept chasing him as he attempted to manoeuvre around by the beach.
Not wanting to completely ignore the surfing element, Gromee and Lukas would up making their very own surfboard with one of the most famous board makers in Portugal. We have been told that one of Gromee’s talents is painting, but we will have to wait until the second semi final to get a glimpse of the board that the duo made.
The pair have developed a strong friendship over the past few months, since their first collaboration on the song “Without You”, which led them on to their Eurovision entry “Light Me Up”.
The entry itself is co-written with Melfest 2014 contestant Mahan Moin, who also introduced the guys in the first place. She’s also a black hat enthusiast, as they told wiwiblogger William in London.
“I always wear a hat — for years — and I have so many hats in my apartment at home,” Lukas said. “I’m wearing a hat. Gromee is wearing a hat. And now everyone is wearing a hat!”
Has Lukas learned a lot about Poland in recent months?
“I’d been there some times before meeting Gromee for vacations and stuff. I really love Poland, so it feels very natural to come down and play.”
He’s feeling big love from Polish Eurofans.
“They are awesome fans. They are cheering for us, writing for us, doing everything for us — memes, videos. It’s been more than I could ever imagine.”
He’s digging the food, too.
“We went to a Polish restaurant and he was teaching me the Polish cuisine” — of which Lukas seems to remember pierogi and zurek the most.
Are you looking forward to seeing the guys hit the water? Are you still looping their song “Light me up”? Let us know down below.
Last year “FlashLIGHT”.
This year “LIGHT me up”.
Next year “Switch on the LIGHTS”. 😛
No Jamala, next year it will be “1945”.
I really like this song! Its so positive and catchy 🙂 wish that Poland will be in the top 10
Had a pleasure to follow their making the postcard via their Instagram. Can’t wait for this.
By the way, I love them so much, I’m so proud that these two lovely, humble and positive guys can represent us.
#teamgromee
I truly like it but have no illusions about a high position in a grand final (?). Poland has clearly raised their level after the comeback in 2014 but there’s still a long way to go if we want to win this contest (and believe me, WE WANT – at least the fans do).
They’re great!
Anna Miles dobt wait for Kasia shes not planning back soon and the same Margareth what they said both….. we love this song – dated we can say about for example Moldova song @ Gromee is making fresh beats and videos @ I would like to come to Poland for great fun and celebrations to see Eurovision there ….. always fingers crossed…. ????
Margaret no way. She should learn to sing
Cause Lukas in next Freddy Mercury
Lukas can sing. He is doing that for years, he is a lead singer of the rock band No Sleep For Lucy.
right, totally right…Madonna or Birtney are even more succesful, if you know what I mean
@PurpleMask don’t waste your time arguing with that hater. our guys are 1000000 kilometers with their modesty, kind heart, positive attitude and talent above her
They’re lucky to be in Semi 2… I can’t say that I hate or like this song, it’s just there. In such a weak semi they’ll qualify and the song is danceable, so whatever. Poland always qualified since 2014, this is no exception.
Halt die Fresse ?
i would love to see Poland winning one day…but not with this song…It’s sooo anoying, Gromee pretends he plays the music, so dated…..I hope Margaret will be back one day, or talent like Kasia Mos with a good song (though I like her song last year)
true! bad weak song, if they were in SF1 they would not qualify for sure…I understand why some people think badly of ESC if they see songs like this one
Actually a lot of people like this song and thik highly of it (check out reviews on youtube for example).
And things that make people think bad about eurovision are freak show entries, joke entries and cheap trashy disco entries
Exactly! Cheap, trashy and disco – Light me up! ?
ps. comments on yt…you can find more or less same reviews below each song. Do you really belive that if someone writes – 12 points from e.g. Cyprus to Moldova that will happen in actual contest? ;p
Riiight, I can see you’re a music expert now, calling light me up a disco song 😀
And like I have written above, check out REVIEWS on youtube, like actual video reviews of Eurovision youtubers, not comments. It would be nice if you would actually read what other people write, instead of projecting your own prejudices on people.
Poland ain’t winning anything this year.
Exactly! Cheap, trashy and disco – Light me up! 😉

It’s not that bad, but definitely not a winner.
I think nobody has written anything about Light Me Up winning ESC 😉
Maybe not winning, but they already won something more valuable – our <3
They will be higher than anybody suspects. With 50-60 points from the jury they’ll at least repeat JOWST’s result from last year (televoting score will certainly be higher than Norway 2017).
