Vive La France! Madame Monsieur, who will represent France at Eurovision 2018, have entered the top 5 of the betting odds for the first time.

The dynamic duo have spent the past month promoting their track “Mercy” around Europe and the promotion appears to have paid off.

On April 14, their odds were as a high as 25/1 at some bookmakers. They’ve now been slashed and France can be found as low as 9/1 at Bet365.

France’s elevation has come at Estonia‘s expense. Despite Elina Nechayeva’s dress distress resolving itself, Estonia has failed to rally at bookies and slipped out of the top five. After her Eesti Laul win, Elina peaked at second in the odds, but she’s slipped back since. Estonia can now be found as high as 13/1 at SportingBet.

Australia‘s assault on the top 3 also appears to have stalled for the time being. SkyBet had Jessica Mauboy as low as 6/1, but she’s fallen back. Several bookmakers list Australia at 8/1.

Israel, Bulgaria and Czech Republic remain unchanged at the top. Netta has been the consistent favourite and remains way out in front. Her odds are as low as 6/4 at bookmakers including William Hill.

Bulgaria trail with lowest odds at 11/2. Czech Republic’s Mikolas Josef is further back with 6/1 at BetVictor his best odds.

FULL EUROVISION 2018 ODDS TO WIN ACCURATE AS OF 13:43GMT:

The next major change in markets should come on Sunday once rehearsals get underway. They’ll give the first indication of how performances will look and acts will sound in the live shows.

Some acts will be damaged by adverse reactions to rehearsals, others will elevate off the back of positive reactions. First rehearsals on Sunday will also involve the first half of acts in Semi-Final 1 including Israel, Bulgaria and Czech Republic.

The most movement will come during Eurovision week itself. Last year’s winner Salvador Sobral gained real momentum after his semi-final performance.

Fastest way to become a millionaire: Be a billionaire and start betting on Netta! – negative lyrics (imagine the reactions if someone made a song that had the message that girls are stupid) – doesn’t connect with live audience – no melody – song is accusing, pointing. But let who is without sin throw the first rock Netta! – Netta sings that she looks so beautiful. And when people respond with “well Netta, now you mention it yourself, you actually don’t match what is generally to be considered beautiful in 21st century Europa that much”, people freak out. – a… Read more »

Benjamin Ingrosso Reaction To All Eurovision Songs 2018

Taken down by Kevin Lee.

Im surprised Germany isn’t doing any better. So far every live performance Michael has managed to convey the emotion that goes with the loss of a near one. I feel it should be higher up in the ranking than it is right now.
Eurovision always is an emotional rollercoaster but his is very sincere. I hope he’ll end up higher for it than currently in the polls.

Nils1973nl

Guess these aren’t the best years for Germany (and UK for that matter..)

I have the impression that you don’t really get a chance somehow. Maybe it is a matter of time, before a new ‘Lena’ presents her/himself.

I love NETTA! Hope she will win!

So it doesn’t look too bad apart from the reaction to FYR Macedonia. Unless I’m missing something.

Well well
Guest

Taking the video down -and so fast- is part of the disaster. If you are a childish bufoon you can also own it. Some editors on this blog who behave like that (Angus, Padraig) are not allowed near people for the same obvious reason. winky face.

Purple Mask
Guest

I know what you mean about selling buffonery, like some UK politicians do (cough). But I have actually met Angus twice in real life, and he has been lovely to me. Have you met either of them?

There’s a difference between acting on camera and real-life behaviour. Which one was Benjamin’s?

As for Benjamin Ingrosso, I have seen him perform, but I didn’t actually meet him directly.

Well well
Guest

We all judge as we please and by what we see, and choose to see. People who put themselves in the spotlight- artists or bloggers- signed up for this, they can also change and grow through this. If you’re willing to vouch for someone I suppose you are making an informed decision that meets your criteria.

Denis
Guest

so apart from Macedonia is not that bad? Plus it does not look like he is serious!
I repeat myself: Thinking it matters more than it does is wrong. Outside the Wiiwisphere no one cares. Hell, probabbly not even half of the wiwisphere cares about it. The casual viewer voting won’t care about it. The juries won’t care. Benjy´s career won’t care about it. You fool yourself if you think people care about ESC in that manner

Purple Mask
Guest

@Well Well – Yes, that’s well put. An informed decision that meets criteria, indeed.
@Denis – Just my reaction here. I’m not representing a wider fan base.

Denis

Purple Mask, I know. I was replying to OP. Who thinks people will care about it. I know your opinion and appreciate them

France is very close now to the Czech Republic. Indeed, this is a very similar pattern than Portugal’s last year, although the climb up began a bit earlier. That is not to say that France will actually win it, but would be very happy if they did. But would also be happy for Bulgaria and Israel and Czech, as they have never won it.

Alfred5

Israel won 20 yrs ago

L'oiseau

Yes I know that very well. I was there and cheered! 🙂 And France 41 years ago. So, I am not sure I get your point, I am afraid.

The main problem with France every year is overeating their entry. This happens cuz people want Eurovision to go to Paris , who doesn’t want that right? Well the reality is that there are a lot better and more deserving songs and I can only see France between 10-15 place this year , nothing more , nothing less.

Mary
Guest

Israel is the most overrated song. This chicken song looks like a bad joke

Alfred5
Guest

novelty/comedic act that will leave viewers baffled ; especially those traditional folks in E Europe and the Balkans

Alfred5

Yawn , you are tone deaf to the chime of politics …re-read your comments on may 13th and try not to laugh

I think last year’s French entry was better.

Betting odds before any dress rehearsals seems very premature.

France has a huge political/humanitarian advantage with the story behind their song …….I expect the French duo to make the most of it by flying down to the refugee camp in Sicily to get a photo op with the” baby Merci ”and her parents sometime in the next week ! The French song is like what you would see at a charity concert event for victims of famine, earthquakes et cet, where viewers are expected to show their generosity by picking up the phone and pledging money ………..I suspect that Eurovision viewers will respond in a similar way by picking… Read more »

Hum… The song is humanitarian yes but I don’t see any calculation like you seem to imply by saying things like “making the most it”… it’s kind of a really dark world you seem to live in (no harm intended 🙂 ) … Not everything is calculated and I think MM will do what they believe should be done for the sake of Mercy and her mother, not just to win a song contest( as great is ESC). The song is actually catchy and really pleasant on first listen and I think people will vote for it because of that… Read more »

I guess we can cross off Sweden now. Benjamin Ingrosso reacted to his fellow contestants and not in a good way. He said so rude comments. Wiwiblogg took it down, but you can see one of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XzpO0kid_4
Also have seen people sying that he is so rude in real life. Actually can’t believe how disrespectful he is.

Egle
Guest

Omg. Stop taking offence so easily from nothing. He was asked to show his reaction, should he lie or praise everyone all the time or what? I respect more people who doesn’t act fake and blandish everyone. It was fun to watch, better than Poland’s guy video. In my mind he didn’t disrespect anyone. Everybody has the right to react and you can’t try to be liked by everyone or you’re just plain.

Elena
Guest

Do you know you can say in a nice way, if you don’t like the song. But he go way over a line and not in once, but many times.

Kyna
Guest

I mean c’mon. Saying that the drummer is taken from the streets (Macedonia), San Marino has low budget entry and were only 10 people in the audience, taking off the headphones immediately when the Hungary’s song was on, and overall commenting on persons looks is just immature. It’s okay to say if you don’t like the song or whatever, but mocking them is so unprofessional. He’s same age as me and jesus christ at this age you should have some common sense to know how to behave. Honest or not but this just revealed how he really is.

Egle
Guest

So? When I watched FYROM I also thought the drummer was funny and playing the same way no matter how the rhythm goes… And San Marino’s stage looks low-budget and it seems like a small audience compared to others…. Like, what did he say wrong? He made joke out of those funny things. And he didn’t mean it badly. I believe most of the people from time to time comment others’ appearance, are we all immature? I think those are immature, who don’t understand jokes. Poor guys, this life must be sad.

Kyna
Guest
Well those so-called jokes came in a bad way. The difference is that he’s a contestant, someone who is representing a country, not some anonymous commentator behind the screens. He eventually has to interact with them for the next weeks (already met some of them). The point was the way he reacted, which was i m m a t u r e. At least he acknowledged it and apologised. The sad thing is that some are jusifying his actions and words. Tule mõistusele, tema käitumine oli üdini ebaviisakas. Have to say that 90% of the Swedes on Twitter behave like that, diminishing entries from other countries and acting like Melfest is the only selection worth watching. And ofc, Sweden is probably winning every year.

Denis
Guest
LOL you all are funny! Stop being so over sensitive about Everything! So he said some things, so? Who cares? Majority of people watching won’t care. They probably won’t even know about it And he was asked to react, what did you expect him to do? Fake a smile and say “They are all so good”. Thats not how things work. I would rather want someone compleltey honest than some Square trying to please everyone And if you knew anythign aboyt him(which you probably don’t) you would get that most of his style really is cheeky. he plays on that.… Read more »
Elena

Listen Denis, calm down okay! If the things he said, would be okey, then why Wiwibloggs took down the video? Also have seen that videos what was posted about Benjamin reacting rude, is taken down. If you think I am sensitive, then I suggest you not to go and read comments under Wiwibloggs video, where polish singer Lucas is reacting to all the songs, because it would took a lot of time, you answering there everybody, who said he crossed the line. Have a nice day! 🙂

Denis
Guest

Maybe they tookl it down because of sensitive souls such as those above taking offence?

Rimig
Guest

So you like people to be “completely honest” but here you criticize people for being completely honest saying that they (we) find Benjamin’s reaction childish, immature and disrespectful?…
There’s so much logic behind that!…

Denis
Guest

No. I criticize you for being easily offended snowflakes and making a fuss over an issue most people won´t care about. A guy reacting about songs which he was asked to do, big deal indeed! Let´s call all major media about that!
You read far worse things on this blog to be honest! And Salvador crapped on the whole contest last year, no one cared

Rimig
Guest

I didn’t like Salvador’s words last year and I expressed it so, as I have the right. I also have the right to give my opinion about BI’s reaction.
Of course, you have the right to act as if you were his well-trained guard dog, so… everybody happy!

I tried to click on the link but I think they removed it.

Lian
Guest

When I saw the comment I was like “uh, we’re a bit exaggerating here, hun, aren’t we?”. But then I saw Ingrosso’s reactions and I felt kind of the same with you. It’s not the bad comments he said about the artists (though it is damaging for his public image), it’s the way he reacted. He enjoyed being mean and it kind of gave me hard feelings for his identity as an artist. Benjamin, I liked your song but that’s not a great way to promote yourself. 🙂

Denis
Guest

Just a fun thought! Hhd it been a woman you would all have loved it. Because then t would have been “she is a diva, what did you expect? But when a man does it then no:)
personally no one will care. Casual ESC viewer watching that forms the majority won’t care. I mean a guy being asked to react, OK? Big deal..
participants won´t care, Benjy won´t care and his career wo´n´t care

Kyna
Guest

If it was a woman instead, then it’d still be bad. A gender is not some kind of excuse for being a douche and disrespectful.

Denis
Guest

yet everyone praises divas for being divas.

Kyna
Guest

everyone? like e v e r y o n e? lol no c’mon not everyone praise them. Not all divas act like he did.

Lian
Guest

Denis, I understand what you’re saying about divas, there’s indeed some racial discrimination over the matter and if we’re talking truthfully, some people who are now opposite to Ingrosso’s reaction would love a “diva” (man or a woman) to say the exact same words. That’s not right, indeed. But just because some people enjoy a bad behavior, that doesn’t make that bad behavior good, and just because some people enjoy another bad behavior, that doesn’t make Ingrosso’s reaction fine.

JayJay
Guest

This is so much worse than Salvador’s speech last year after his victory. At the time I saw so many Sweedes complaining. Now Sweeds are saying we are over sensitive… I guess this self-righteousness works only one way, right?

Denis
Guest

How is a guy having opinions worse than a winner crapping over the contest he just won?

David
Guest

Having a crappy song that is way overrated, he should learn to shut up. Would be soooo great if he stays in the semis … Benjamin Ingrosso, Ikea and H&M: all worthless crap from Sweden.

Eve
Guest

So basically Benjamin reacted like random esc viewer, what’s the big deal anyway, lol

JayJay
Guest

@Denis I think is much worse because Salvador was not offending anyone at personal level. He was just stating his state of mind on the content of the contest, not the contest itself.

Denis
Guest
Oh that statement was pretty much crapping. Not only was he saying his song was the only one that was honest and good but also that the other entries were bad and that the whole contest is nothing but a fast-food contest. That is pretty much insulting the contest and the fans. But for some reason he gets a pass. Must be the heart condition.. All Benjy did was to react, as he was asked to do. Its nothing worse than when regular people react. To truly Believe it will have an effect on anybody is wrong. No once cares… Read more »

I just think Benjamin was being dumb and defending him is even dumber.

Denis
Guest

What is this sudden wish that participants should be quiet? Are they not allowed to react? You think the other participants haven’t reacted in the same manner? They just weren’t filmed reacting .
What’s so wrong or dumb saying San Marino looks low budget? It does look low budget. Everyone would agree. Even San Marino would say so. And they don’t make any attempt of hiding it either. How is pointing that out rude

JayJay
Guest

Well, it’s dumb to say that publically and quite arrogant.

I think France has a very contemporary and good song. It was my early favorite! But I’m not sure if it actually deserves to win even though I think the chances might be good (depends on how it connects with the audience on the big night). I can see it doing really well with the jury but if the message doesn’t reach the televoters then it might not do that well with them. Odds are pretty meaningless right now. They become FAR more accurate after the first rehersals and even more so after the dress rehersals. I’m predicting that Isreal,… Read more »

Anonyme

We agree in the France elections, the songs have been voted by the foreign juries for half. Then the televoters gave their points and cause we are French most of us and we understand all the lyrics, we placed in first place Mercy, if I have a good memory.

Many folks who hear Netta for the first time think it’s a gimmicky novelty act that Eurovision was infamous for back in the 1980s ..it starts off badly, but then picks up steam, but it just seems to me to be too weird and bizare

NoGeoblocks
Guest

Lots of people who hear Madame Monsieur for the first time think this song is nice. Not too interesting not innovative or original in any way and doesn’t really go anywhere… It starts off low key and boring. Continues very boring lyrics and ends in the most annoying repetitive way. It’s a nice song. Nice songs end in the 10 that place. ( that would be a huge success for a song so boring with a singer with 0 charisma)
What do you want Alfred5???

Alfred5

FRANCE is slowly creeping up in the betting odds like Salvador did last year when he became the bookies favourite the night before the final ; as folks wake up to the potential of the song and it becomes a ”news magnet” in relation to its unusual story of a rescued baby , then I expect it to slowly, but surely, become the bookies favourite just before the final ..it’s building momentum as word gets out about it and is getting lots of free publicity …..watch out Netta, France intends to topple you from your lofty perch !

It looks clear that the buzz over Israel is finally died down. It’s quite clear Israel IS the Gabbani of this year, and I am not even sure it will qualify. As for France – the buzz keeps on growing with the help of a very careful and well timed PR attack just 2 weeks before rehearsals – perfect timing. Very clever. Now, that all the attention is on France, all they have to do is come and collect the first prize. Very easy job. I bet they will be nicely placed between 15-25 in the running order. Amir was placed in slot 11 and got 6th (top 3 with the juries), while Alma had the misfortune of going last after 3 consecutive favorites (Belgium, Sweden, Bulgaria). Usually the “magic zone” is between songs 17 and 22, but I guess we’ll see next week what half they get and later on where they will be in the final running order as you said

Denis
Guest

She is far from being as hyped as Gabbani was. Gabbani had virtually no competition in OGAE voting and other votings. he was basically made out to be the biggest winner ever, the saviour. Netta is far from reaching that league. Her OGAE win wasn’t that overwhelming.
But I think her momentum has just started.

I still dont get why Bulgaria’s, Australia’s, Sweden’s and Norway’s entries are in the top ten …. These songs have no essence and are not epic for the win. Good voices, or good performers, but average songs. No goose bumps effect on me. I miss here other great entries such as Austria, Spain, Germany or Portugal.

Daniel
Guest

Norway with all my love to mr. Rebak , very bad !

Denis
Guest

Just because you think they lack essence doesnt mean they lack essence. No one made you the music expert.
The reason those countries are there is because they most likely will be there. I even expect all of them except for Norway to be top 5. They all have an appeal and are good songs

Music is Art
Guest

Never pretended to be an expert. That’s why I say “on me”. Read well before obsessing by other opinions. Whatever, where is the personal or diversity essence on the entries I mention? No need to be an expert to know that Australia Norway Sweden or Bulgaria bring good singers and/performers, but average songs with NO personal or European essence (exc. Norway, which brings only personal essence).

Denis
Guest

Define European essence? And why should that matter in a song contest?
Knowing A song is average or nor isn¨t a fact, it’s opinion. Clearly majority of people don’t agree with them being average. Hence why people vote for them. Fact is that these songs are more likely than not to reach top 10, top 5 even. That is a fact. The issue of you not liking them for some petty reason doesn’t change that

Music is Art
Guest
Denis, my dear, do you really need anyone defining European essence? Compare Italy, France, Spain or Greece ‘ s entries with Sweden, Netherlands, Findland’s: European essence vs American essence. I don’t know what you expect5 from this contest, but I expect a means of fraternity of all European peoples through music, a way to get to know one another better to foster respect to diversity. Why do people vote or bet for songs like Sweden’s, Israel’s, Poland’s, Finland’s, Norway’s etc? Simply; they have different expectations from this music contest, fun, dance… (all respectful) or because they dont care about the… Read more »

Really Denis? Questions similar to those asked by my secondary school students! European essence means a cultural touch from any of our countries, not from USA, not globalized. My aim, protect our identity and our differences…. because diversity is beautiful and enriches us all. But again. … this is my point of view. Each of us will vote according to different criteria

Jan Levý

I agree with you on every single point. From the current bookmakers top 10, the only ones I would keep there are France, Estonia or Greece, depending on the mood (this is written by a Czech, mind you 🙂 ).

Money is money, hypes attract money and money bring hypes. Easy. We must be clever when voting and follow simply our emotions.

I only agree with you to a certain extent, because I LOVE Bulgaria’s song (but also Austria’s, which, by the way, has as little “European essence” as the ones you mentioned). The biggest reason France has been rising in the odds is not just the story of Mercy being found, but the reaction they’ve been getting on the pre-party circuit. Madame Monsieur have been getting tons of positive feedback from the consistency of their performances (even with SuRie stepping in for Émilie in Amsterdam), in Madrid they literally got the biggest reception of any act at that event. So while I believe the hype around Netta peaked way too early, Madame Monsieur’s momentum has been growing at a steady pace and if they carry that momentum through rehearsals and into the… Read more »

I cannot wait for the rehearsals!! So happy for MM, I have a good feeling it will do really well. Surely the best score for France since Amir and perhaps even better, fingers crossed!
Well deserved in any case… Catchy and meaningful song <3

Can’t wait for the rehearsals, until then we can’t say who’s gonna win, but I’m sure France has the biggest chance, the second country is Estonia and than Bulgaria.

France, Bulgaria and Estonia is going to be lit this year. I have a feeling that Czech Republic , Australia and Norway is going to fall down at the table, they are too high right now IMO

Agree! Czech Republic and Australia will finish in top 10, but not in top 5. While Norway – I’m not even sure it will qualify, yeah he has a lot of fans, but I’m nit sure if those fans are outside Eurovision bubble as well.

We’re sick of your regular updates on those inaccurate, meaningless, and time-wasting odds! What else you got?!

Shifts in odds are great predictors of public opinion and reaction!
Yes absolute odds are meaningless but shifts in odds have never once proven wrong

Well, until the rehearsals start the odds are pretty meaningless. And yes, odds have proven wrong before. 2016 was the last time they were dead wrong.
Odds should be taken with grains of salt, ESC is incredibly hard to predict
