Fourteen blokes started the journey to become “Best male solo artist of Eurovision 2018“. And now, the results are in.

It’s the Albanian power house rocker, the one and only Eugent Bushpepa. And he won by quite a margin, taking 22% of all votes cast. In a distant second came Ukraine’s Mélovin. Czech Republic’s Mikolas Josef wasn’t far behind in third.

It is clear that people were thirsty for some serious rock n’roll. And Eugent definitely serves plenty of that with his silky smooth voice, powerful performances, charm and a mild manner. The FiK winner might have entered the pre-party game a little later than many, but his presence still managed to sweep everyone off their feet.

His rock ballad “Mall” has become somewhat of a fan favourite. And we’re not surprised. The song is both catchy and melancholic with impeccable vocals. Everything one wants from a solid rock number.

Now it is time for Eugent to fly off to Lisbon and attempt to get the rest of Europe on board. He takes to the semi-final stage on 8 May.

We know what our wiwi-readers think of Eugent, but what about the rest of Europe? Will the viewers at home be as fascinated by him as those of us in the bubble? We’re simply dying to find out!  Maybe it is time for a Balkan country to host the contest again?

I would like to thank Eugent on behalf of all parents whose children were bullied. My son was suicidal due to bullying at school (that he kept a secret from me) and Eugent has become his motive to carry on. I took him at the Amsterdam pre-party and Eugent smiled and waved at him because he noticed that my son was verging on tears. That moment has been immortalized in the video and it has become the credo of millions of people all over Europe! Eugent has come here to touch our hearts with his voice and to save lives… Read more »

While everyone else is playing dirty just for votes, Eugent is fighting against the social-ills! And what’s even more impressive, he’s doing that under a strict privacy! We should all take the hats off to his altruistic spirit, that apart from its noble deed, it chants in his heartwarming voice! #weloveeugent #stopbullying

As an Austrian, I solemnly call upon the Western Europe to support Albania as it has till now! Apart from purveying the highest quality in the Eurovision, Albania is the oldest surviving nation in Europe which deserves at least such symbolic cultural recognition. I understand that this may not be your radio-friendly pop tune, but the Albanian entries reflect their own cultural elements, not their mainstream electronic sound. The Eurovision’s core principle is to celebrate the unique ethnic sounds, so please be courteous and reward the Albanian efforts. Thank you / Danke schön / Merci beaucoup / Dank je /… Read more »

Albania is a favourite and has won every poll for a reason! The full support is here but it should be even stronger during the contest. Eugent deserves the victory and no one should be upset or afraid of it. The Western Europe functions upon fairness, therefore Eugent’s merit won’t be left unrecognized despite of the Eastern conspiracy and sabotage against him.

It is truly sad how serbian trolls always try to ruin every Albanian post in here. I understand that they feel butt hurt from Albanians and that they fear Eugent as a champion, but such childish comment-attacks against him are extremely cowardly! I feel truly sorry for Albanians to be surrounded by such slavic subhumans. Thank God I am from Western Europe!

Albania will win regardless of their destructive online agenda funded by Russia. By supporting Eugent, you support Europe! Supporting him, means supporting yourself! Thank you one and all! #OneEurope

That’s true! All those slavs (lead by Russia) actively work against Albania and the rest of Europe, but to no success! The true Europeans support each other and this contest will show it better than ever! Supporting Albania means Supporting Europe! One for All and All for One! United We Stand!

It is truly sad how people can still be racists. I understand that they are just afraid of unknown, but such childish comment-attacks against other races are extremely cowardly! I feel truly sorry for people to be surrounded by such a racist pig and bigot. Thank God there are less and less idiots like this!

Hey guys! Don’t be fooled by some guy who pretends to love Eugent and spreads hate throughout. Eugent said him himself that ESC is the brightest moment in his career, and never had the attittude that “he was doing ESC a favor to participate”. If you think these comments are praising Eugent they are instead making people hate him for nothing, so stop them please!

Lourdes
Guest

Exactly! I’ve had the same feeling too when I read those comments. It just didn’t make sense that they kept attacking even the people that support Eugent for no logical reason. I just wonder why they are doing this. Are they Albanian? Even though I’m sure it’s just one person commenting under different totally made up names and usernames. Please people don’t take those comments seriously!!!

@Lourdes: This is the final warning before we permanently ban you and your fellow trolls from WiwiBloggs and its social networks. You have been commenting under several fake nicknames and trolling the respected commentators in our website. We have tolerated you enough and this is your last chance to stand corrected!

That “Lourdes” troll is attempting to censor people in here. A ban would be truly appreciated in her case. Thank you kindly!

And this is the troll I was talking about. And the comment below is also his. What different usernames am I using? I don’t have time to waste with childish stuff like you, troll!! You’re making a fool of yourself!!

@Wiwibloggs Moderator: This is offensive to all of us who spend our free time and true passion on Eurovision and this platform. To clarify: I know you’re not a real Moderator, otherwise you would have self-identified. You are no doubt one of the people who are part of an organised group trying to bring down this platform. The question I want answered is: Why?
Also, if Wiwibloggs were to shut down tomorrow, what’s in it for you?

So the supposed love and happiness fest for Eugent became nothing but a bunch of snobs and hipsters that are so above pop and mainstream music disliking almost every song that has came to the Contest.

It’s funny how you can go to hate from love in just a few lines. I love “Mall” and it hope it qualifies, but then to throw sh*t on almost every other song or country that has went for pop or something different than strong vocalist ballads. That’s low.

And even if we we’re back to those days, Ireland would probably win all the times.

Lourdes
Guest

I agree with you completely. Some people have lost the whole point of the contest! I’ve seen mean, evil, racist comments that don’t make any sense at all! Eugent is great and amazing, but this doesn’t mean that everyone else is trash. It’s clear that some immature people fail to comprehend this.

Purple Mask

Agreed. Whatever happened to the “friendly” aspect of the contest?
N.B. Albania is in my Top 10 this year.

Buurt

Unsure where do you sense that “unfriendly” vibe?! Just because the elite audience appreciates Eugent above his rivaling trolls, that does not indicate unfriendliness. I simply don’t get your problem?!

Purple Mask

@Buurt: I was replying to Lourdes, who wrote that there has been “mean, evil, racist comments that don’t make any sense at all”. I think Lourdes was referring to what I have seen in the Wiwi comments, but could have also been referring to other platforms.

Albania is my all-time favourite country in the Eurovision. Apart from having the third-oldest song contest in Europe since 1962 (San Remo and the Eurovision being just a bit older), they still maintain a 100% live orchestra and always deliver the most unique and evergreen oeuvres to Europe. I have a profound respect for their very own musical universe, uninfluenced by anyone or anything rather than their ówn culture. Meanwhile, their mainstream pop is a separate music industry branch which has no business with Eurovision but MTV / Viacom Networks.

Just Honest!
Guest

Agreed! To them, it is not important what is trendy today or tomorrow, but what is beautiful and timeless! If all competing countries would develop such norm, Eurovision could become the most important music event in the world and not the most ill-reputed one as it has gotten. Sweden spoiled it first with cheesy pop tunes (and was rebuked by EBU), and then former commies followed the trend. However, “Festival é Kenges” and “San Remo” have maintained their integrity and standards, so I’d like to believe that there is still hope for a pan-European revival…

Marcelo
Guest

Do you want it to go back to the old days with the orchestra and all that? And to Ireland to win almost every contest with their boring ballads? And to say Sweden spoiled the contest it’s absurd considering they brought the more successful act that have participated in Eurovision and “Waterloo” was a pop song.

P.S. I still like Eugent and I do hope he qualifies. Maybe if Juries push it. Fingers crossed.

Buurt
Guest
Why is the U.S. Music Industry the most powerful one in the world? Because they use 100% live sound! There’s no way for any festival or concert there to be played with just a pre-recorded instrumental and some squeaky live vocals as it happens in the Eurovision! Such stuff is typical for lowbrow shows like “X-Factor” because even “The Voice” uses 100% live sound, including orchestra. In short: Eurovision – as it is today – is a mocking parody of the true cultural values of Europe, thanks to slavic and caucasian junk in it. Only Albania, Italy, and Portugal stood… Read more »

Lourdes

He deserves it! He’s the best performer and vocalist of this year and also a very kind and humble artist. I wish him all the best in Lisbon and he’s for sure gonna rock and give a wonderful show despite the result!

p.s: I really wished that the new website would have a filter for trolls! They’re becoming very annoying.

The Berkshire Toff
Guest

Actually, humbleness is not his best trait. Eugent is ABOVE EVERYONE in this contest, and yet, he maintains a low-profile that trolls don’t even appreciate. Idiots mistake kindness for weakness, fine lass! The guy was blessed with superiority and he should hold on to it!

Lourdes
Guest

What?

Evergreen
Guest

I understand Lourdes’ concern about those bold statements but I would like to assure her that they do not negatively affect Eugent’s success in this competition. He certainly does not need any troll votes because he enjoys the full support of the Eurovision’s Elite & Senior Audience. It is WE who make the rules, not the trolls. Their vote and opinion does not count in the end. Eurovision keeps them around as cheerleaders, not as decision makers!

Clément
Guest

Well deserved. I voted him.
Eugent is too good for Eurovision.

Evergreen
Guest

I feel honoured but also shocked that a rock artist of his magnitude has decided to participate in this pop carnival! Eugene has collaborated with legendary bands such as Deep Purple and Guns N’Roses, and now he is competing among shameful acts such as Melovin and Mikolas for instance! Apparently, he just wants to win the Eurovision for Albania and this is an easy task for him.

Josh
Guest

These both shameful acts gonna be much higher than buspepa with won’t even qualify 😀

Evergreen
Guest

Eugent has the elite audience behind him! We are here to prove to all those troll-acts that the Eurovision is restoring its pride and that it is no longer their circus trampoline as it has been for the past fifteen years now. Time to make Eurovision a junk-free-contest that not only Europe but the whole world will be proud of!

loveeurovision
Guest

dont you think you are overreacting a bit?maybe we should tell everyone to quit and leave Eugent to sing all the songs alone!

António
Guest

About 99.9% of the competing entries since 2003 onwards, have been nothing but a disgrace to the European cultural values! Only Albania has maintained the pride (Italy ruined it in 2017) and it is the right time for it to win. Eurovision has long become unwatchable due to slavic, greek and caucasian junk, but it will get back on track.

Just Honest!
Guest

Completely agree! All countries in this contest have had their troll-moments except for Albania. It is obvious that Albanians take Eurovision seriously and do not play by today’s or tomorrow’s trends. To them, it is not important what’s trendy but what is timeless!

Marcelo
Guest

Can “Suus” be considered a troll moment?

Lourdes
Guest

Don’t believe these comments. I’ve been arguing back and forth with this troll in other articles, but it’s pointless. It’s the same person who talks to himself under different usernames and profiles ( same style of writing everywhere), and I think he’s just pretending to support Eugent by faking this snob and elitarian attitude, just to throw shade at him.

Daniel
Guest

“Suus” is the most legendary operatic oeuvre to have ever graced the Eurovision’s stage! With due respect, but your comment is pathetic.

Marcelo
Guest

Funny how you believe that Albania is the only country that maintains their heritage and European essence when they revamp almost all their Albanian entries into English. And other than “Suus”, the Euro-pop “I’m Alive” brought Albania their best result since 2012. And that song didnt even competed in FiK!

Also, funny how you consider all other countries’ music to not represent Europe or European essence, when we just had the victories of Jamala with a song with Crimean Tatar lyrics and Sobral with a ballad in Portuguese.

Buurt
Guest

Language has NOTHING to do with his point! We are talking about the music quality here, not languages and outfits. Also, “I Am Alive” is Albania’s lowest rated final-entry to date. Why? Because her song was changed – it was not the original one that win “Festivali Kengees”.

Lourdes
Guest

The original one that won FiK wouldn’t even make it to the final.

Martha
Guest

Elhaida’s voice would have won-us-over with any song! “I’m Alive” was amazing but “Diell” was astonishing! Wish she could sang both 🙂
