In recent weeks a French revolution has been brewing in the betting odds for Eurovision 2018. And France‘s Eurovision duo Madame Monsieur appear to have momentum on their side. They’ve now closed to second place in the odds to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

They entered the top five three days ago and are now narrowing on Israel. Bet365 has slashed Madame Monsieur’s odds from 9/1 to 13/2.

Israel on the other hand is headed in the opposite direction. There’s a red alert out for Netta across the board, meaning her odds to win are widening. Marathon Bet has adjusted her odds from 15/11 a few days ago to 28/17. The market movement is a response to first rehearsals today. Netta’s Japanese Kimono-she-better-don’t-inspired performance has not impressed everyone.

Another act adversely affected by rehearsal reaction is Bulgaria‘s Equinox. They’ve fallen back into fourth place. SportingBet has them as high as 10/1. That’s opened the door for Australia to push through into third. BoyleSports has Jessica Mauboy as low as 15/2. She of course has yet to rehearse and will be in action on Tuesday.

If Israel and Bulgaria are in trouble, Estonia has turned things around. Estonia‘s Elina Nechayeva is back in the top five after a warm reception for her first rehearsal in Lisbon. William Hill has cut Estonia’s odds from 12/1 to 9/1.

That means Czech Republic has fallen out of the top five. Mikolas Josef injured himself during rehearsals, which could explain market reaction. Czech Republic’s widest odds are 12/1 at SportingBet.

Today’s biggest casualty is Belgium. Sennek has slipped out of the Top Ten altogether, falling to fourteenth place. SportingBet has Sennek as high as 66/1. Vocal problems during preparty season had already seen Belgium drifting downward. That has allowed Spain to sneak in to the Top 10. Ladbrokes have Almaia as low as 25/1.

France has been one of my favourites from first hearing it but I didn’t hold out much hope for it actually winning. Now though as the big event gets closer I’m starting to feel more and more confident it will.
I’ll be in Paris this week so I may look at my hotels prices for next year just incase ?

@Mel
Fo you think Heroes was bad! Have you herd too 10 this year. Its the worst song EVER. I didnt think it could be any bad song after Ukraine and Portugal. But it could

Mei

Why are people crossing out Sweden as a potential winner? They are always overrated by jury and almost always are in televoting Top 5. The song may not be winning worthy but Sweden won with even worse songs (Heroes)

Denis

Sweden is Always underrated in ESC. Never underestimate Sweden in ESC, that is a lesson!

Speaking of bad Swedish Winners: Herreys..

The moment you say ‘Heroes’ was worse than this year’s entry, you have the answer. WTF, ‘Heroes’ was standing out at the time, this one is a cliche modern song that will be loved by radio people and that’s it.

alsomike

come on… Heroes and Euphoria are the only 2 songs you still hear on the radio

I never ever heard the Ucranian neither the Portuguese song

I’m sorry, but how the hell is Albania ranked 6th last??? He’s been receiving an increasing amount of support since FiK, and especially since the pre-parties. The guy has amazing charisma, a good song, and an incredible voice. I hope this is a tactic by the bookies, and not them actually underrating Albania.

AurelianTamisan

I wanted to ask the same thing, Albania should be increasing in the betting odds. However, let’s not get confused, these are the odds for a win, Albania has absolutely no chance to win Eurovision, they should be now favourites to qualify, which is a total different thing. Some entries could be seen as more possible winners, without being favourites to qualify, than some countries that are favourites to reach the final. Usually the all or nothing songs, like, I’d say Hungary, they have something unique that could get them either very high, either not in the final. I don’t… Read more »

INFORMATION :- WHO IS IN THE PINK OR IN THE BLUE (BETTING UPDATE) . . Things still going as expected, Bookies very slow to catch up, hehe!! . . NEW TOP 5 NOW :- 1st ISRAEL 2nd FRANCE 3rd AUSTRALIA 4th BULGARIA 5th ESTONIA . . Very strong Top 5 now. For me I would like to see either SPAIN or GREECE instead of AUSTRALIA in the Top 5, (only my opinion guys.) I would expect to see ESTONIA in the Top 3 come final day; I don’t expect AUSTRALIA will remain in the Top 5. We have yet to… Read more »

The funny thing is that no matter who wins, most likely still Florian Wieder will create the stage, so it will be again a German show.

I can’t believe anybody wants France to win, you just want to go to Paris next year. Fine, but I wish they’ve had a more deserving song.

Yaa

France is just horrible this year, no way they are winning! This is just whishful thinking! They were 3rd for the France jury! And they are so not going to receive public support due to the current political climate and also due to the Eurovision political non adherence! The song in itself is not at all winner material, there were much better french songs that still did not got good results. For me it’s just fan wank , nothing more.

Very interesting. But we have to remember that this is first rehearsals. Much can happen still.

This situation is very similar to last year’s situation, when Portugal started to rise and won in the end. And as long as I beleive that Netta is not going to win (even the televote), I am not sure that the winner is gonna be France. We need to wait for her rehearsal as well. Of course I will be glad if France wins, I beleive that we will see a spectecular show in Paris. But maybe we can have a surprise winner. Who knows. One thing is clear. This year is gonna be exciting! (Both in terms of semi… Read more »

Fear of the Balkans.
For the second consecutive year the West unites and wins a song that is not worth it.
Bulgaria with its immigrants will be the first to be a televised ,but jury maybe flop Bulgaria at the expense of boring for Madam Monseur – for Israel I do not give a chance to politically purely dislike Europe, so the battle will be between France and Bulgaria or the West against the East. But for me Bulgaria will win because it deserves it!

BoriS
Guest

From here I turn to the former USSR and the Balkans.
Do not let Europe make a boring and not worthwhile song winner. You have to win Bulgaria because it has the biggest work in the last 3 years it is!

It is very funny. France duo, sing about refugees and when they sing about them, they will wear expensive clothes from famoush high fashiong designer from their country.

France is overrated . They will flop like they did in 2011. After I rehearsal , Israel, Czech Republic and Bulgaria is out of game to win. We will have surprise winnner like we did in 2001,2002,2003,2006,2011

Odds have fall out for many countries. Israel remains first after this circus and Czech Republic after this amazing staging fall down. Bookmakers will take a lot of money after the final! LOL Australia is 3rd with this awful song! Unfortunately remains the pet of EBU.

Pet my axx! Many people like this song and it’s a fact. Deal with it!

Konstantinos

Australia is EBU baby and so much overrated in juries points. Juries beside them, like Sweden, Malta, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, many times like Israel and in that club from 2013 and 2015 joint The Netheralands and Belgium.

Bori
Guest

Yeah, right! These countries just know how to produce a song that juries love. You guys can also ask your own countries to produce a radio friendly song; however, I don’t think you guys will. Stick with your one-time artsy entry that can only succeed on the Eurovision stage with only one chance. Bye Felicia.

France is in my top10 but i don’t want it to win cause it is a political song…..

Denis
Guest

France always disappoints in tele voting. Even when they are favourites they don´t even reach top 5 with televote. Juries usually helps them. So I would be a bit cautious..
And I don’t Think they have closed in because they won something. it is rather that the other favourites slipped down which has lead them to rise.

Alfred5
Guest

Rubbish !………France will win the tele vote

Denis
Guest

based on what?

Alfred5
Guest

They won the televote on eurojury on Saturday night

Denis
Guest

That is as useless as OGAE. That is nothing to go on. They won the televote there in 2016 too and look what happened there. Italy won televote there last year and look what happened. That isn´t an indication at all

SW99
Guest

But they did really well in the 2017 televote!

Marcelo
Guest

And in 2016, they got 9th in televote. Since tides have turned for France, who knows if this could be the winner. It’s very possible.

Michael
Guest

If France wins, it will be due to the fact that it’s about a refugee. The song has almost nothing else going for it, other than good vocals (though not spectacular). Although it would give France its first win since 1977, it feels awkward that it could happen with a song like this (even though it’s not, people are going to recognize it as being about migrants with a false picture of them). Sort of like how Austria only won because they sent a drag queen. Rooting for Estonia and Bulgaria.

Alfred5
Guest

Jamala’s song wasn’t too god either, and yet she won due to powerful political message

Michael
Guest

Jamala’s voice was extremely powerful and she could sell the emotion like no other. Plus, the only people who claimed it was an attack on Russia were Stalinists. Sergey never had a problem with it. Madame Monseiur’s song is too restrained to have a vocal performance like her’s. Not to mention, it doesn’t even have a unique instrumental like 1944.

joe
Guest

I actually genuinely disagree. I loved the song and the chorus and how different almost synth pop it sounded, before I knew what the lyrics meant

Roy Moreno
Guest

I understand the downfall of Israel, but I don’t understand why France is going so high
They will not win, nor do so well on Saturday
The winner should be either Bulgaria, or Estonia, or Hungary for me right now
So far, the Israeli staging disappointed me a bit so….
Good luck to everyone <3
(From Israel)

Alfred5
Guest

Because you are ”tone deaf” to the chime of politics, presumably
Their song strikes a chord and chimes loudly with the zeitgeist
France could win for similar reasons that Conchita Wurst and Jamala won

Roy Moreno
Guest

Conchita and Jamala had MUCH better songs, MUCH better vocals and staging

Alfred5
Guest

Maybe so , I agree that the French song is a bit plodding and low key , but it’s much more politically relevant than Jamala.s

KuhKatz
Guest

I really can‘t see France doing this well, they will fall through one vote completely, but I‘m unsure, which one..

Also why no mention that Lithuania is climbing as well? Could be sneaking into the flnal if Ieva continues like that.

NickC

Also, I do not want to brag, but my algorithm had this top 4 (ISR, FRA, AUS, BUL) for the last 2 weeks, please check my older posts. I am few steps ahead, because I am using all available information, like youtube and spotify. So, I am telling you now: France will soon take over Israel in the odds. The other country that is massively overrated is Switzerland. It is doing very well with former ESC contestants, which is a sign that it will ace the jury voting, at least.

NickC

sorry, I meant SUI is underrated, not overrated.

For me, Mercy represents all of us trying a get a better life despite circumstances. Mercy is not only a refugee, she represents gays being prosecuted , women being sexually assaulted, people being discriminated for their race, or religion. Mercy is about being human during our turbulent, seemingly cold, connected but disconnected times. And that’s why it desrves to win. It is a musical masterpiece, a cry for humanity. Comme ses paroles, je pense que cette chanson vivrai 100000 ans.

The odds are sorting themselves out slowly. That’s what rehearsals will do!
Can’t imagine the Czech Rep coming back up any time soon but seriously, when will the bookies start reacting properly to Albania?

Marcelo

I don’t know. Eugent rocked the Eurovision pre-parties and odds didn’t change either. Now with an amazing first rehearsal, bookmakers still don’t seem to recognize the quality and good package of the Albanian entry. At least, France and Estonia are crawling up the leaderboard.

I also think France will win this year without even being a top 5 song quality wise. Eurovision goes back into politics :S

Salvador gave us a sabbatical year of this intrusism into art and music. Some day every country will send songs with political issues and this contest will look like a parliament soon.

When you take away the PC message…this song doesn’t cut it to me. Repetitive beats and doesn’t go nowhere musically wise.

Alfred5

The song is plodding and basic but it has an explosive political/humanitarian message like Jamala 1944 …Jamala’s song wasn’t too good musically either

UK 5th place?????? Also FYR Macedonia very underrated.

Polegend Godgarina

That only happened once… this year it clearly isn’t the case.

Marcelo
Guest

Amazing how bookmakers’ favorites such as the UK, Denmark, Ireland and Iceland all flopped badly. Italy, Spain and Romania did make it to the left side of the scoreboard, so they weren’t that wrong. And how Malta, Lithuania, Albania and FYR Macedonia surprised everyone. You could say Albania 2012 did a Moldova 2017 way before them.

Polegend Godgarina

Elmo

France is the most overrated and underwhelming song this year… This will be the second year in a row that a painfully boring song wins and I will not be shocked at all.

Alfred5
Guest

The song is plodding but it has a huge political advantage like Conchita Wurst and Jamala did ..it has created a ”moment”

Marcelo

Most overrated? That’s either Israel or Bulgaria.
Most underwhelming? That’s either Belgium, Spain or Norway.

So, stop with the bs.

Elmo

Marcelo, this is my opinion and I don’t care if you are butthurt about it. So you should stop the bs. Thanks.

Estonia deserves it. France song about refugees when France is having so much problem in their country right now with them so i dont understand the song. Should every country take in unlimited amount of refugees? is that the message. Maybe a stupid question but i dont get the message. Israels message is easy to understand..

Marcelo
Guest

I think it’s about the humanitarian message and how this situations can happen to anyone rather than “Europe should open their borders” message which is obviously dumb.

123
Guest

Israeli’s message is easy to understand yes, only problem is that the message shown through the lyrics and the message that Netta talks about are 2 totally opposite messages…
and i don’t think France’s song is really that political…i mean, it talks about individual case of a mother and a child and not about refugees in general which would make it more politically driven….on the other hand, does it play on the sob story card? yes it does

Jo.
Guest

The road is completely open for France. They can snatch it.
But why is Albania at 38th? I mean, even if you don’t like the song, you can’t rank him that low.

Lourdes

It doesn’t make any sense at all. It was 1 of the best and not only based on my personal opinion. Maybe it won’t win, but no way it has less chances to win than Romania, Latvia, Serbia and so on. I’m speechless!

Anti-Jo
Guest

F off @Jo you piece of sh*t!
Hi @Lourdes, I think it is to do with the running order. Albania’s placing isn’t as good and also historically they haven’t been a sure qualifier. In this tough semi, his vocals are great but the song is not really a big hit like others.

Anita

@wiwibloggs. I hope someone from wiwibloggs is going to delete rude comments like this one.

According to bookmakers, Ireland, Croatia and Malta have more chances of winning than Switzerland, Poland and Albania. That’s the most clear sign that odds should be taken with a pinch of salt. Plus, we are heading towards a ESC 2011 dejavu, so maybe surprise random winner?

so whats your point? at least she wrote her own lyrics unlike most of the contestants who were given songs written by well known songwriters and they got lyrics that are cringely trash like Malta’s lyrics…animals criminals and sticks and stones….come on please…And Albania’s song is saved by the language but the melody is still old fashioned and unmemorable which is covered up by some amazing vocals…so yes i’m serious

Marcelo

I never said Poland had amazing lyrics but the beat and the entire package saves the song. Sadly, Croatia has nothing: weird beat, dumb lyrics, awful pronunciation, pretentious concept. Just look at Croatia’s qualification odds and then we’ll talk.

I think you’re right in saying that Netta’s momentum peaked too early, while Madame Monsieur’s momentum has been growing steadily. Their consistency of their performances in the pre-parties and the huge receptions they’ve been getting have really helped, now all they have to do is keep that momentum going into their rehearsals on Friday and next Sunday – the first French win in over 4 decades could potentially become reality if all falls into place!
