Forty-three artists. Over 40 fan clubs. One winner. The OGAE Poll 2018 is over and Israel‘s Netta is the winner.

The chicken clucking Queen scored a massive total of 456 points. That’s the second highest haul in the poll’s history. Only Italy’s Francesco Gabbani did better, when he scored 497 points last year.

Netta led the pack from the open of voting and finished on a high. She received 12 points from OGAE Austria and two tens from OGAE Sweden and OGAE Portugal.

Her nearest rivals France finished over 100 points behind her. Madame Monsieur won a total of 352 points from the 40+ clubs across Europe. OGAE Portugal gave their top marks to the French duo, perhaps echoing Salvador Sobral’s thoughts on fast food music.

Finland placed third. Saara Aalto scored 226 points, despite failing to win a single set of douze points. She instead benefitted from a broader spread of scores. Six clubs gave her ten points and a further eight gave her eight points. From the final three clubs, she picked up eight points from OGAE Sweden and seven from OGAE Portugal.

OGAE Sweden gave it’s 12 points to fourth place Australia. Jessica Mauboy also picked up 7 points from OGAE Austria. That took her total to a final score of 202.

Czech Republic rounds out the top five. Mikolas Josef ends on 181 points, helped across the line by 10 points from OGAE Austria.

Bulgaria (178), Belgium (143), Greece (119), Cyprus (106) and Denmark (99) round out the top ten. Only five countries received perfect scores from fan clubs. They were Israel (27), France (9), Australia (4), Bulgaria (2) and Belgium (1).

14 countries scored nil points. That means across the 40+ fan clubs around the world they failed to feature in any top tens. They were Albania, Armenia, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovenia, Switzerland and The Netherlands.

OGAE POLL 2018 FINAL RESULTS:

Illustrative as the OGAE Poll 2018 is of fan opinion, it is traditionally a less accurate barometer of actual opinion on the night of the live broadcasts. Last year’s winner Francesco Gabbani failed to win and in fact placed sixth. The year before, winner Amir similarly placed sixth.

What do you make of the poll? Do you think Netta wil win? Or have the fan clubs missed something? Let us know in the comments below!

Usually OGAE polls don’t get the winner, but that’s not the point. The point is we get to see how fans react to the songs. In 2017 and 2016 the winners of this poll were my abosolute favourites each year. Now, my favourite is in 2nd place (France). About Israel, I think we’ll see sth like Italy 2017.

Israel will not win – it will not get enough support from the juries, who go for safer songs: the young and the fans will vote for it to give a good televoting result but like Amir and Francesco last year juries hung them out to dry. I think we may not see the winner coming this year there is more volatility in the Odds than usual at this stage.

Well, they missed the staging 😛
Obviously they voted before the rehearsals, but now, I doubt Netta can win this thing

You didnt as well, you still dont know how its going to look like. The camera angles or anything else…its amazing that people see 30 seconds from far camera and think that they know what will be the final outcome and even worst after only 1 reahersal…i suggest to wait for the bradcadt…i trust on netta to set the stage on fire in real time

I’ve hardly ever agreed with the OGAE polls. This year, two of my top three (Albania no. 2 and Portugal no. 3) didn’t score any points… Then again, I’m quite surprised that Azerbaijan has done so badly on the poll, their song might be seen as typical OGAE bait.

Netta is gonna end up shockingly placing 6th in the final now…

Amir did first, than Francesco…

Placing 1st in the OGAE poll is a curse that’ll guarantee you 6th in the final now lol

(Obviously, I’m joking)

You give it way to much credit. Otherwise they should just hand the trophy to Israel right away

That top five is just horrendous to me.
Oh well, thankfully, these polls mean little.

The only use from this poll is to know that someone who finished high will flop. Last year was “Verona”.

This time it might be Belgium, Finland or Cyprus. OGAE tends to favor pop divas a lot, even though Belgium is more indie.

Well, Sweden 11. What will all non – esc – swedish – haters say?
Now we know that the worst place for Sweden is 11, since the ESC fans hate Sweden regardless of how good or bad our song will be.

Perhaps you too should think of what you’re saying… I can’t convince you that Sweden won’t be Top 10, as well you can’t convince me that other 10 countries will finish better than Benjamin.
Sweden isn’t bad, but isn’t any cherry on the cake either.

Thank you. It’s ok not to like our song. But a LOT of escfans think it’s bad becaus it is from Sweden. Think that we should skip esc. Melfest is enought for us. Then we won’t get all this hate from europe.

If you think the OGAE Poll it’s the most accurate form to decide possible positions in the contest, then you’re delusional. If that we’re the case, we should just award the trophy to Israel.

How can you all go so crazy about the bookmakers? We could cancel the contest right now and crown Israel or what? They don’t mean sh*t. Yeah, they’re often quite close to the actual results, but they’re not essential to the contest. Try to enjoy the Eurovision Season as Long as it lasts and don’t get angry about ”Problems” that don’t even exist (yet).

Oh c’mon. Moldova 2017 wasn’t even in the top 30 for most of the time. Sometimes the bookmakers just totally mess up. And at least Rybak isn’t winning, I think we can agree on that. (I actually really like the song, but I can totally understand the disapproval it’s getting from fans)

I really like the artist and his personnality ( I even follow him on YouTube… Love his violin covers) but yeah I wish his song was less gimmicky in a way with less “shabadabahey” and all that sillyness… but I get why some like it too it’s kinda “fun” in a way 🙂 I wish him the best anyway 😉

Finland way too overrated. That hype around Saara Aalto is basically for nothing. Even the first impression of her rehearsal is not strong enough for a Top 3 placement.

It’s quite pathetic in a way that when somebody doesn’t find any other words to describe that he/she doesn’t like a song, then you take the word “overrated”. How can a song be overrated if there are hundreds of thousands of people who love the same song you just happen to dislike? It is about your personal taste of music that doesn’t meet with the others’-

So, after Amir and Francesco did so, we now know who’ll be 6th place in the end 😀 Probably not, that just can’t happen three times in a row. I really don’t care who wins with a few exceptions. Such a great year… And I don’t really like Israel’s song, but may it win if you want to.

I think generally the OGAE polls tend to a better indicator of how good a song is, as do most fan polls. Fans analyse the songs in detail and vote on the basis of how much they like that song. At the event itself, so many factors come in to play. Performance, vocals, staging, costumes, running order, a smidgen of country politics, backstories, expectation, peaking too soon, the ability to make an impact on one listen etc. etc. Therefore just because a song doesn’t do so well at the ESC doesn’t mean it’s a bad song. I think Amir had… Read more »

OGAE is just fans voting for songs they like. Most of the time they are out of tune to what the majority of casual viewers actually like and appreciate. The fans went crazy over Amir and Francesco whereas a majority of casual viewers just found them to be nice fun songs. The fans live in their own world most of the times and that is alright.

I don’t. They actually has predicted top10 quite well with some exceptions. The winner of OGAE has sometimes fallen off from the podium but generally taken it is a good indicator for the final results.
