Poland, Lukas Meijer, 1

Poland’s DJ Gromee may be one of the most meme-able acts of the year. During his first rehearsal at Eurovision 2018 he served his hilarious wave dance, making motion in the Altice Arena ocean — and with non-stop charisma and a very big smile. Standing on an elevated turntable stage, he’s eye-catching and unforgettable. He may not speak much English, but he’s definitely conveying a sense of joy and enthusiasm to Europe.

While he busts a move and spins tables, Lukas stands before Gromee’s stand — it’s very purple-pink, very JOWST — wearing his hat and nailing his vocals. The dark staging with plum-fuschia accents works incredibly well. It creates a club atmosphere that prepares you to move. The quick-changing camera cuts add pace and rhythm, amping up the energy of this very infectious performance. A bit of pyro — think geysers emitting sparks — is tasteful yet explosive. This is sleek, Scandi and very well-done.

Aiming for uplifting and fun, Poland absolutely nails it. It’s the perfect balance of professionalism and party — and should sail through to the final.

It was really good! Similar to Norway last year and that worked really well. Love the song, it will qualify.

Can I say here that I don’t like the guy that “hosts” press conferences?
Than…
-I feel very uncofortable (not mentioning the artists) when I watch press conferences with this man.

I kinda liked this song when I listened to the Polish finalists. But now, compared to other ESC 2018 songs, it sounds so flat and predictable. They will qualify anyway, 100% sure of that, but they have no business in the Top 10.

I’m really happy hearing the effects and the whole stage production is on point because we often had problems with that part in the past 🙂
Lukas’ voice has improved since KE, that’s another good sign.
Now I’m mostly afraid of camera cuts as I know how much harm they can do 😛
I hope you’ll like LMU on stage! 🙂

This looks like fun. I feel like I am dancing at the disco club. I like the effects, the lights, the colours and the little stage. The only thing I would change is how all 6 of them are aligned on a straight line.
I already see this in the final.

Michal Szpak was not concidered as a potential favourite and he got the 3rd place in the public voting…
(Just reminding)

This year Poland had a lame national final, as many others (Romania, San Marino, UK, Ukraine, etc…)
We chose Gromee and Lucas and it was the best from the possible choices…

Fingers crossed for your fingers (to vote for us)

I really really like Gromee. Lukas is cool too. And this is such a feel-good song. It’s not my typical genre of music, but I absolutely love “Light Me Up”. I think they will do well on stage with a big crowd in front of them.

I like this Daft Punk-lite song, very cheery & summer ready. I’m not sure about the staging, it kinda looked static for a party bop? I hope they do well

It’s hard to comment about it without watching the camera angles, but based on William’s description they solved what was a problem on the national final, giving it some pace. This needs to look like a summer party and not as a music attraction doing playback on a variety TV show. I believe they achieved that. And I agree that Gromee is very likeable. He doesn’t look like a DJ and this adds some character. This entry has nothing special, but it will be a great adition to the grand final, reducing the tension between some frontrunners or even opening… Read more »

The first thing I though was “this is very JOWST”, so I see I’m not alone. “Grab the Moment” is miles better though. “Ligh Me Up” itself is a bit generic, but still enjoyable. The staging needs more movement, at least that’s my concern from the 30s rehearsal. Maybe the camera work will make it feel more dynamic. Overall, I think it is a solid enough performance to qualify from this weak SF.

I guess every EDM entry in ESC will be forever compared to jowst. *sigh*. I guess nobody has ever done EDM before Norway did it in 2017. Never ming that Gromee has been a dj for 20 years.

From the wining formula and epic song:

Petra]: Step 5! The violin, the drums and the kvinnaböske might make it all feel a little bit old fashioned, but this can easily be fixed by adding a DJ who pretends to scratch. In real life of course, this is thirty years old but in Eurovision, it will give your number a contemporary feel

I guess the same goes for guitarists pretending to play guitars, violin players pretending to play violin, pianists pretending to play pianos and so on. Oh and don’t get me started on vocalists singing, and dancers dancing, and light show on stage, sooo cliche, it has been done a thousand times before

Oh I know where it is from, and I love ‘love live peace peace’. But nobody plays live on esc, so why single out djs not playing live? It’s not like gromee became a dj just for eurovusion, he’s always been a dj. So it’s like accusing violin players, piano players, guitar players tgat they don’t play live – why single out djs?

Well, if you write a mean comment, be prepared for a mean reply. Btw my reply was also just a joke. No need to be angry.

Well, if someone expects alternative or classical music on eurovision, combined with elefants and flames coming out of performers’ butts on stage, I guess it could be called ‘nothing new’. Like 99% other eurovision songs, it’s just a good pop tune with a good staging. If you’re not into that why even watch esc?
