Another nine acts rehearsed for the first time on May 1 (“Day Three” for the press corps in Lisbon). Russia’s Julia Samoylova sang from the summit of a mountain. Norway’s Alexander Rybak taught us how to write a song. And Australia’s Jessica Mauboy reminded us that she’s got the love as she danced before a dazzling light display.

After all the pyro had settled, we asked you who had the best first rehearsal — and the results are in. After counting 4,536 votes, we can now confirm that Romania’s The Humans topped the leaderboard with 26% of all votes, or 1,175 votes to be precise.

The Romanian rock group brought dozens of black mannequins and created natural walkways and paths for lead singer Cristina to strut to and fro.

Their performance takes you to another world — a museum perhaps — and provides an almost out of body experience.

Despite a recent history of strong performances, Moldova managed to exceed expectations — delivering an eye-catching performance that is worthy of a mention. The trio DoReDos had a lucky day indeed, earning 22% of all votes or 1,013 to be precise. Telling a story of misunderstanding between one woman and two men, the performance relies heavily on door choreography to a deliver a performance that’s part cheese, part bonkers and totally on point.

Placing third in our poll was Eurovision returnee Alexander Rybak, who scored 14% or 637 votes.

He delivered an amped up performance from his national final, including more pyrotechnics and more charisma.

We might consider taking songwriting lessons from him.

See below for all the results.

Why isn’t Romania in the odds top 5 then?

Few people have seen the full stagings, we are to perceive them from the snippets and from stories. Their impact, especially on first viewers and in context of all the other songs can only roughly be guessed at the moment.

Their rehearsal and performance is good. The lead singer has outstanding voice, but i think, the song is not on the same level. It’s a skip..
