His dreams of conquering Eurovision faced a major set back after he suffered an injury during his first rehearsal. But following three hospital visits, Czech Republic’s Mikolas Josef performed during second rehearsals on Thursday, albeit not at 100%. He spoke with wiwibloggs about his troubled journey — and his commitment to seeing Eurovision through.

“I’m better, thank you,” he said just a few hours after his wobbly rehearsal, where he eliminated all back flips and slowed down his choreography. “Everything is getting better. I just say that I’m sorry for what happened, but it happened. There was shock in the whole team because the early status looked like it’s over and then we received a lot of treatment.”

Rumours have swirled that he might perform in the second semi-final instead of the first, giving his body time to heal. And while this was discussed, it’s not actually a real solution.

“We talked about this,” he admits. “But we’ve been advised by the head neurosurgeon in Czech Republic to not do any crazy moves for about three weeks…it would not make that much sense to give me a few more days.”

Despite not being able to move totally freely, he’s not keen to delete his entire performance. Instead it’s about making tweaks and working with what he’s got.

“Let’s keep it the same way it was before,” he says. “If we would change the whole concept, we’re starting from the beginning again.”

“We did this for such a long time, it even feels like a shame to have the microphone stand there, but that’s life. You have to work with stuff the way it comes along. Hopefully running will be okay tomorrow and some jumping and during the final I hope to be able to do the full show.”

Injury aside, he’s still hiding secrets in that backpack. What’s in there?

“It’ll be revealed on Sunday. There’s something inside the backpack that will tell something more about me and the experience of ‘Lie To Me’ and what’s the real thing behind it.”

Is this guy the Salvador Sobral of this tournament? health concerns before the tournament, a stream of support, then sympathy votes on the night
