Jessica Mauboy Australia Semi Final Two Eurovision 2018

The second semi-final came and went, and with it ten lucky acts qualified for the final. But what impact have these songs have on the iTunes chart? Let’s take a look.

The big semi-final two winner is Australia’s Jessica Mauboy. “We Got Love” is charting in 12 countries, including top ten positions in Australia and Sweden.

Next up is Denmark and Sweden. Rasmusssen’s “Higher Ground” is conquering the charts in eight territories, including a No.1 spot on home soil and a No.7 in Sweden.

Benjamin Ingrosso’s “Dance You Off” also appears in eight countries. He’s currently at No.1  in his native country.

Of the remaining semi-final two acts, Norway’s Alexander Rybak and the Netherlands’ Waylon are charting in five markets. Eliminated Poland are charting in three countries while Moldova pops up on two.

However, Cyprus continues to dominate iTunes overall. So far, Eleni Foureira’s “Fuego” is setting the charts alight in 18 countries.

So what does all this iTunes chart action tell us? It’s important to remember that not all countries use iTunes as much as others do. In some countries other online music stores are more popular, in others streaming has taken over as the dominant form of consuming music.

But the reaction in iTunes charts around Europe is at least an indication of what songs made an immediate connection with some listeners. It shows us what songs inspired listeners enough last night for them to track down the song online and download it.

What do you think? Do iTunes charts indicate Eurovision success? Share your thoughts below!

Well it’s okay for this empowering radiopop from weaker semi-final. But the tracking (spotify – non present; 4-5th on itunes; doesn’t lead youtube live) speaks it’s not a contender to win 🙂

Annoying song < 20 place

If last year’s entry placed top 10 despite the minimal televoting points, surely Jessica can improve on that with a top 5 finish. This should appeal to jurors and the televoters. Might not win but could surprise.

Yes she is! Jessica commands your attention with her powerful vocals and positive energy. I’m Greek-Australian myself and don’t think much of the Cypriot song. I’ll admit that Eleni has great stage presence but so do other artists competing in Eurovision. Stop being so one dimensional in your commentary.

Totally agree. She will surprise us this year with a top 5 finish. Her charm is a winner and the song is great.

So many good songs out of the final: Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Malta, Belarus and many others and this one with Jury help in final. This is the worst song of the final by far. Australia has great singers. Why this one? It’s a drama!
I think that televoting will give 10-40 points in this one. 18-26th in televoting.

If they pay so much money and EBU wants them to qualify every year? Oh yeah because they don’t and they get good results on their Own. Australia finished in the top 5 from the televote in 2015 and 2016 (which is extremely impressive for a country with No neighbours whatsoever) so its not just juries.

there are so many negative comments on this blog about the editors and plugging certain countries etc, if you feel that strongly, why don’t you create your own website and see if you get the following that the great team at wiwibloggs have. on another note, I must have been watching a different show as I thought the song quality and performances in SF2 were far more impressive than hyped up SF1……i’m waiting for the trolls to pounce…..

Isn’t it strange all the hate moves now from Belgium to Australia but hey don’t say a word wrong about Cyprus or Israel or else… WTF !!!

Jessica seems a very nice person and I definetly like her song much more than dull song from Isaiah last year but let’s face it…she sang bad in SF2 ….in fact, most of SF2 act were really weak…hope it doesn’t get all this high jury points

She is terrible in stage. Only juries support her.

Yeah right. That’s see what’s gonna turn out tomorrow. If she’s terrible, how can people still wanna pay to buy the music after her performance? If she’s terrible, most of the people in semi 2 are no any better!

if the juries award Australia high points, despite the fact that Jessica is really out of tune most of the time in the verses, then I guess the juries are not those “musical-experts” they are supposed to be.

juries also vote for the song as well, not only the performance.
Poland – generic song
Malta – G:Son leftover, you know the rest
Romania – dated early 00s pop rock

In fact, in many countries the juries are no experts at all. Just as an example, in Spain, two of the juries are two contestants of Operación Triunfo that have not won. Can someone tell me what credit they have for being juries? It’s a shame that they were proposed and it’s an even bigger shame that they accepted. In other countries similar things happen…

Actually, Australia blew other performances out of the water in the semi finals! Admittedly not perfect, Jessica sang with so much conviction and really elevated the song with her stage presence. She radiates joy and happiness! I’m tired of all this negativity surrounding Jessica. Very pitiful and shameful.

Conviction? Yes but she was lucky so many others in the second semi sang false otherwise she would have blown herself out off the water.
Also why is she trying to go for the Barbara Dex-award????
She isn’t of model looks like the girls from Cyprus, Latvia or Croatia but she is a nice looking girl and she looked horrid in that excuse of a dress.

I’m sad actually that Australia qualified and Romania didn’t. i cannot get it. I’ve lost hope in Eurovision, I mean what are the criteria? Just how is this? I look at it again and I still don’t understand. It’s beyond me. And now I have to watch it again tomorow and maybe see it win. And everybody praises her, how is it possible?! I’m not bitter, I just don’t understand any of this.

Her performance did not live up to the hype of this song and of Australia.

ill-fitted dress. shaky vocals. ridiculously awkward moves.

They should be grateful that they are Australia. The apple of the eye of EBU.

Second semi just didn’t live up to the first one and I honestly couldn’t care less for any except Slovenia which was a pleasant surprise.

Belgium, Greece, Croatia, Switzerland, Azerbaijan </3 Eurovision can't always be a fair game unfortunately.

I think people are underestimating Australia this year. I was there and Jessica got the loudest applause. Her performance wasn’t perfect but it was full of energy and very entertaining. I think that that a top 5 finish is possible because it is much better than Isaiah last year.

I’m actually relieved that Jessica pulled it off last night. Yes, she was a bit shaky here and there, but she was a lot better than in rehearsals and the jury semi (from what I heard anyway). Hopefully she can pull it off again tomorrow. Please rest your vocals, Jess.
