Susanna Marie Cork — aka SuRie — doesn’t slow down. Shortly after her second rehearsal came to a close, the Hertfordshire beauty met up with our William to discuss her staging, how she keeps her arms so toned and her experiences as a backing vocalist for Belgium in 2015 and 2016.

So what’s her triangular light tunnel all about? “It’s just such a wonderful structure. We refer to it as the tunnel of chevrons. The diamonds are coming from the music video, the graphics hopefully work with the beat of the song”.

The lights are bright but she’s staying cool. “It doesn’t get hot on stage,” she says. “It’s a new high-end technology. The Portuguese team and UK team collaborated on the building of it…the staging is coming home with me in a suitcase, and put it in my house. I’ll just live in it!”

SuRie has also become something of a social media icon this year. But naturally the exposure comes with plenty of perils.

“I’m very touched when someone takes out time of their day so send me something positive. It comes directly in to my phone, it doesn’t take much to just reply and say ‘thank you’.”

“Some messages are not positive, but that is okay, that is the curse and blessing of social media. The blessing is the direct connection you have with fans”.

And there’s also some time to reminisce on past performances, as SuRie talks about moving in to the spotlight after previously being a backing singer for Belgium. “I don’t think anything can truly prep you for being the lead artist at Eurovision”.

“I still remember bits of my choreography with Loïc Nottet. It was very dynamic and hard. We worked really hard to keep our core stable”. I still remember the ‘dead beetle’ I believe, or that was how Loïc called it”.

What do you think of SuRie’s rehearsals? Do you think that SuRie can create a storm on the scoreboard? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!

I have feeling that UK will be in last place tonight with 0 points as usual.

BBCeurovision have posted a video of SuRie performing at last nights jury show. The audience are singing along. I felt pride.
I’ve slated the song many times for it not being a competitive song but have praised it’s simplicity and relateability. ,
Hopefully this translates into some points.
SuRie has been a great ambassador for the UK and she can “hold her head up” whatever position she comes in.

How come UK media are already blaming Brexit for their poor result before the final even begins? Oh this is ludacris

It’s the same story every year. British betting sites were confident Lucie Jones would get nil points last year! We did 111 points better LOL

I feel bad for her. She is an amazing singer. But neither her song or her performance is amazing… I hope she has had a great time anyway. Because I think she can thank her lucky star if she ends up higher than 20th

Good luck to SuRie for the final tomorrow night.
Moving on… it’s Guy Freeman’s last year this year so we can only hope things will improve for the UK.
Time for the BBC to start thinking about our artist for eurovision 2019.
I’m thinking Jessie J doing a big epic power ballad.
Go check out her performances on the 2018 chinese show “SInger” Several available on youtube, –
Mindblowingly wow! And just what eurovision needs

We need to withdraw within the next 24 hours. We can’t possibly have yet another humiliation at Eurovision. I can’t express how angry I am with the BBC, THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! This is mentally upsetting for British Eurovision fans!

All of the BBC delegation (e.g. Helen Riddell, Guy Freeman, Hugh Goldsmith) should be sacked from choosing the UK songs. OMG, please withdraw!

We shouldn’t withdraw, the BBC needs to give the rights to ITV or start to compete in the semi finals either way something needs to be done

Except it was chosen by the public

Or is it chose by the public, as the BBC refuse to reveal the results of the national selection?!?

It’s not as if any of the other songs at You Decide were any good

It was chosen by the public from an utterly dismal set of songs. Entirely agree with the growing calls for ITV to be awarded the rights instead. They are also in the EBU, and of course have far more experience than BBC (Ireland & Finland entries alone this year are BGT/XF graduates) I should just say though that I do think SuRie is talented, as well as a very nice girl.

Honestly, I think the main reason for our results, is we get too comfortable knowing we automatically qualify so we don’t worry about the quality of our song. That’s why if we moved broadcast and possibly actually put money into producing a good selection show, there could be hope.
After lucies performance last year and result Europe clearly doesn’t hate us, but we just don’t pick the quality songs that Europe are looking for.
Good luck to Surie tomorrow but hopefully Europe still sees we’re trying

Unless you’re Mariah Carey, there are some reasons why others stay as back up vocals. This goes to Cesar too. Vocals alone does not make one a star. The lack of X-Factor & charisma. Just notice it, when they both sing, they are dead in the eyes. Combined with rather meh songs. But good luck to both of them, they will be swallowed by more seasoned & more star-like performers

Totally true. Both of them also seem like the most stable persons this year. Stable but no fire and dead eyes. Maybe emotional turmoil is what makes a great artist as well.

Nicosia 2019 definitely. Not hating, or anything but I love her song having roots from the north, I can’t wait and really wish her luck and hope she does our island proud tomorrow
Vote vote Nicosia 2019 all of Cyprus is ready

I love love LOVE SuRie! Such an absolute star. Unfortunately as much as it pains me to say ‘Storm’ is a little bit of a wet lettuce which is such a massive shame. With the correct song SuRie could’ve really caused a ‘storm’ this year, however with what she has to work with 15-20 would be a really good result… I do fear that she will end up in the 20-26 club though.

Whatever happens I know SuRie will give it her ALL and hopefully she will be able to continue her momentum after the contest

Totally agree. She seems lovely but the song is very meh. If she can get more than 5 places off the bottom then it’d be a great success for what it is.

Given how much the final looks to be up in the air (even with the very strong odds on Cyprus), I expect nothing less than an evening of bonkers and brilliance in equal amounts! Exciting!

She stepped in for Emilie in Amsterdam and sang the French entry in an English version. That was a really good performance and the warmth in her voice did make the song better in my opinion. Shame she has to do with this song. Still look at Alexander Rybak his song isn’t up for best song of the year but he manages to deliver it with such conviction that he might even end up in the top 10.
