DoReDos presidential welcome Igor Dodon Moldova 2018

After Moldova‘s second top 10 finish in the Eurovision Grand Final in as many years, DoReDos returned home as heroes. The “My Lucky Day” singers were even received by Moldovan president Igor Dodon, who hailed their result and promised to carry on supporting their music career.

The three members of DoReDos — Marina Djundyet, Sergiu Mita and Evgeny Andrianov — returned to Chisinau on Tuesday, and were received by family, friends, fans, and members of the press at the airport. The three singers, who told the journalists that they had hoped to crack the top 10 and were delighted to have managed to do just that, expressed their happiness and pride at representing their country well.

Despite no longer having their songwriter and mentor with them — Philipp Kirkorov was on a flight to his home country of Russia, where he is continuing his tour — DoReDos were in good spirits and overwhelmed by the amount of flowers and gifts that they got from their fans.

The next day, the three members of DoReDos were received by none other than Igor Dodon, the president of Moldova. In an enthusiastic post on Facebook, the latter sang their praises and vowed to continue his support for the trio. The president did not fail to mention that DoReDos took part in the contest under his patronage and that Philipp Kirkorov is a dear friend of his — which further cements his Russian leaning for the second year running. And although DoReDos did not receive medals like SunStroke Project did last year, they were still touched and proud to receive recognition at the highest level on their home soil.

DoReDos secured Moldova’s second top 10 result in a row

Moldova managed something that only Eurovision powerhouses Sweden and Italy did: back-to-back top 10 finishes. Thanks to a high-energy song and brilliant staging, DoReDos finished in tenth place despite some shade from the juries. Moreover, their highly memorable staging received the Buzz Award for best staging, as voted by the press. Inspired by a theatrical, comedy-of-errors story of a trio and amped up by Marina, Sergiu and Evgeny’s funny facial expressions, Moldova’s staging proves once again that you don’t need a big budget to elevate a song. The prop that they used, with the doors and windows, reportedly cost only 5,000 Euro. Other countries need to take note and get as creative as Moldova!

We would be remiss not to mention the fact that the vocals of DoReDos were also on point throughout the rehearsals, jury shows and the live broadcast, which unquestionably was a big plus. Both Russia and Romania rewarded DoReDos with 12 points in the televote, but Moldova also received 10 points from Italy and Israel. In total, Moldova received 209 points — 25 more than Albania, who finished in 11th place.

What do you think about Moldova’s result? Do you think that staging played an important part in DoReDos’ success? Let us know in the comments!

it’s not an honor when Igor Dodon shakes your hand and congratulates you. it’s something you should avoid at all costs.

They deserve every bit of praise they get! they were the only act this year that actually got me to smile while watching them. This would be the go-to performance of the year that I’d show someone to prove how fun the show can be

I like countries who take it Seriously. I suspect if UK won no one would even gratulate them. They just mock the whole contest.

Stop feeding us with such useless “information”! Who cares what Romanians and Moldovans do after Eurovision? Europe doesn’t care about them when they are IN, let alone when they are OUT!

You are free to disregard information that doesn’t interest you. Some other people might be interested to know how Moldovans reward their Eurovision contestants. We could only dream for our president to receive Ermal and Fabrizio like this!

They did a great job with a fun song but it was basically a reserve entry for Russia with the controlling attitude of Kirkorov. Was hard to watch the act be sidelined and not get a chance to speak in Lisbon!

Is everything okay? Why isn’t Philipp Kirkorov answering the questions?

Good for them! This was the feel-good song of the year. Moldova always seem to be having fun with their entries, which ultimately is what matters the most for me. They clearly love being there and having such a big stage to perform on and present Moldova to the world. Keep it coming and we’ll be seeing them in the top 10 again! I’m sure they’ll be in it again next year – too much of a hot streak to not join in the fun.

its Moldovas third top 10 result. They came 6th in 2005. You know, eurovision existed before 2009…

They didn’t even deserve to qualify, but when Russia is absent, it sends the Moldovan puppets.

its Moldovas fourth top 10 result. What about Natalia Barbu’s 10th place in 2007? It’s shocking how ignorant are here some people about ESC

Honest question: Is Moldova actually sending a song next year?
So far they are just sending pantomime acts

I love that Moldova and Cyprus are becoming better in Eurovision than their siblings Romania and Greece. It really shows that everyone has a shot at success if the song is great.

For me from 2005 to 2018 Moldova send better song than Romania in 2007,2009,2011,2012,2013,2015,2017,2018. Romania is better in 2005,2006,2008,2010,2014.
Cyprus in 80 ties, 90 ties had better song than Greece in many times, especially in 90 s . From 2001 to 2018 Greece had better song than Cyprus in many times.

the prop cost them 5.000 euros, but the backing singers and Kirkorov’s help are not free of charge at all

True, but acts generally expect to budget for their backup performers and their delegation expenses. Large props are an optional expense, while flying the promoter around and having backup dancers usually aren’t.
