Step aside Jessy Matador and Lena — there is a new queen in town!

On Sunday Eurovision 2018 winner Netta Barzilai saw her official music video for “Toy” become the most-watched video ever on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.

Her brightly-coloured video, which helped push her to the top of the Eurovision 2018 betting odds shortly after its release in March, now counts a whopping 58 million views.

The wind rush of views came in just over two months — 76 days to be exact. That’s remarkable, especially since the previous record holder — Jessy Matador from France — had eight years to rack up the 57 million views for his Eurovision 2010 song “Allez Ola Olé”. Eurovision 2010 winner Lena sits in third with “Satellite”, which also has around 57 million views.

In only two and a half months, Netta’s video and semi-final/ final performances have accumulated more than 110 million views.

Today’s news comes shortly after the Israeli pop maverick secured a deal with S-Curve Records/BMG to promote “Toy” internationally.

In a statement sent to wiwibloggs, the BMG team sang their girls’ praises:

“Combining lyrics celebrating female empowerment with an irresistible groove, the track’s hypnotic hook — ‘I’m not your toy, stupid boy’— proves timely and topical.”

“A one-two punch of rapid fire beatboxing, bold body movements, and seismic vocals, the single vaulted to #1 on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart around the globe, claiming the top spot in the U.S., UK, and Australia, to name a few.”

“With a shimmering style as brazen as her charismatic personality, Netta has positioned herself for superstardom in 2018.  Promotional trips to the U.S. and throughout Europe are currently in the works so expect to hear much more from Netta over the coming weeks!”

Are you thrilled for Netta? Are you surprised that Jessy Matador is in second and Lena third? Let us know down below!

Fame comes in many ways in these times. Some are famous because of their talent, others because they are lucky, others because they were controversial. Numbers say nothing about talent and those who believe it are as shallow as this society. These arguments are pointless.

Yes, but don’t forget that Occidentali’s Karma wipes the floor with it – it’s just that it’s been uploaded to a different YouTube channel.

I’m loving this victory more and more and I think that it’s great for Eurovision. The singer, song and video are thought provoking, they challenge people’s beliefs and expectations and that’s not an easy task nowadays. Netta has really brought something new and the figures have proven it right from the start. When I see some of the negative responses she is getting, very blunt and degrading, I understand how important her victory actually is. I hope to see her next year on the ESC stage as an accomplished artist, continuing to make her art and challenge everyone with it.… Read more »

Now Netta is the face of Israel. And those Leftists and BDS members that never watch Eurovision will hate on her.

Eurovision shouldn’t be about Politics. Actually Eurovision is only between EBU and the broadcaster of the host country. No intervention from the government at all.

Yes, I think Netta’s victory will help to demonstrate that the contest isn’t “so political innit”. Israel doesn’t have a great deal of political allies in Europe, and course had no help from neighbourly voters. “Toy” won the hard way, by having the best new idea of the year and executing it well.

Francesco´s career as almost every Italian artist does not depend on Eurovision winning. Last year´s album reached platinum, with 3 of his singles being certified platinum and he made a Tour with 44 concerts. Can you talk me about the fame and success of the “one hit´s Eurovision Winners” please? LOL

Loreen and her performance of Euphoria is pure class and EPIC. Netta and Toy is just something funny at the moment. Even though the message of the song is important. I can’t compare them at all. And I really don’t think she will have an international career after Eurovision. Netta’s Toy will also end up as a one hit wonder.

Honestly I don’t like Euphoria.

I think Netta is a complete artist. You have to see some of her work. So different, so modern.

She’s probably the only artist from Eurovision that never had a musical career before. So everything is just starting for her. And starting very well

I agree that Euphoria is an all time classic, toy still has to survive as a loved song for a few more years to be in this status, time will tell. However, I’m quite sure you’re underestimating Netta as a one hit wonder. She is super talented and also able to create her own music, I think great things are in store for her. And it’s funny you’re belittling Netta in comparison to Loreen by saying she won’t have an international career. As if Loreen has made an international impact after her one hit wonder (unfortunately)

And they she didn’t stand a chance… She destroyed the Gabbani curse and now this!

Still, Gabbani has the most viewed Eurovision song (apart from ESC official account) but he flopped hard in the Grand Final in Kiev, unlike Netta.

Plus, Jessy Matador’s “Allez Ola Ole” always gets a boost during the European summer season. Will Netta be able to keep herself at the top? Interesting that the two most watched Eurovision videos were from 2010.

LOL, I bet William and Deban are kicking themselves for not supporting Netta at the right moment. They went quite negative about her since the rehearsal started. Nothing like a good old cold water in one’s face, I’d say. Hope they would have learnt their lesson after this year’s many videos fiascos. (i./e bad predictions, not trusting their own initial gut feeling, ect)).

Worldwide succesful artists could be Bonnie Tyler, t.A.T.u, Katrina and the Waves, Bucks Fizz and maybe Conchita could sneak there. But most importantly, Eurovision has made stars all over Europe, specially regional stars like Sakis Rouvas and Helena Paparizou (in Greece), Dana International and Nadav Guedj (in Israel), Ruslana and Jamala (in Ukraine), Poli Genova (in Bulgaria), Sirusho and AramMP3 (in Armenia), Sergey Lazarev (in Russia), Loreen (in Sweden) and let’s not forget the Australian big names like Guy Sebastian, Dami Im or Jessica Mauboy.

Joe
Joe

Coulda sworn the trinity (if there is one) would be ABBA, Celine Dion, and Julio Iglesias. Beyond that, there’s also Olivia Newton-John, Engelbert Humperdinck, Bonnie Tyler (OK, mostly British entries), Katrina and the Waves (one-hit wonders over here in the states), Cliff Richard (mostly for Brits), and too many people who are famous locally but less so internationally to count (Ofra Haza, Udo Jurgens, Loreen, Helena Paparizou, Guy Sebastian, Il Volo, Kaveret, Anggun, Lordi, Alia Pugacheva, Philipp Kirkorov, Franka, etc, etc, etc…)
