Performing on Spanish TV one day, meeting with the President of Cyprus the next — Eleni Foureira is keeping the fire alive!

Yes, Cyprus’ Eurovision 2018 star remains way up and she ain’t coming down. Today the country’s president Nicos Anastasiades welcomed Eleni to a private meeting, where he celebrated her second place finish at Eurovision and, more generally, her work as a cultural ambassador for the island nation.

As the Cyprus Mail reports, he deemed her the best singer and “Fuego” the best song that Cyprus has ever sent to the song contest. Proving he knows his facts, he also cited her amazing dancers and composer Alex Papaconstantinou, who sat on a sofa near Eleni throughout the meeting.

“What matters is the stage presence and the performance, which was exceptional,” the President said.

Eleni, who won us over with her openness, kindness and sense of humour from our very first meeting in Lisbon, was visibly touched as she accepted an ornate silver plate.

“I am very happy that we have succeeded with the CyBC to make Europe talk about Cyprus, even for a while,” she said. “That was our goal from the start, to make an impression.”

Writing on Instagram moments after their meeting, the Albanian-born stunner was still over-the-moon.

“Such an honor to be received and awarded by President @nicosanastasiades in Nicosia. Feeling proud for representing #Cyprus at #eurovision2018 #fuego”.

And in a separate video: “The honor is all mine! Thank you Mr President @nicosanastasiades Thank you #Cyprus”.

And it seems the president was just as excited by it all. Afterwards he uploaded a series of images from their meeting on Instagram, along with this exuberant caption.

“I was glad to welcome @foureira, @alexpmusic_ and members of the delegation who represented our country in the @Eurovision competition.”

“We thank them, with their work and their presence, they became very good ambassadors of Cyprus abroad #fuego #cyprus #eurovision.”

Eleni recently brought her moves to the Spanish dance talent show Fama A Bailar, where she delivered an explosive performance of “Fuego”.

Along with the Fama contestants, Eleni performed a version of the “Fuego” choreography based on her Eurovision performance. But unlike her Lisbon show, where she was joined by just four dancers, Spain turned up the fire with a large posse of the Fama A Bailar contestants.

In a change from her sequinned Eurovision wardrobe, Eleni had a new costume for Spain. She worked an asymmetrical animal-print bodysuit and again proved her ability to dance while wearing super high stiletto heels.

With new choreography by the show’s teacher Iker Karrera, the show’s dancers brought wall-of-sex realness to “Fuego”, with their fresh urban style offering a new take on the iconic choreography.

Are you loving how Cyprus has embraced Eleni? Do you think the Greek broadcaster regrets repeatedly saying no to their homegirl? Let us know down below!

President is very nice towards her but what a slap in the face for the likes of Anna Vissi, Evridiki or Lisa Andreas.

Oh, she totally deserves that. Her career has gone even higher, in Greece she is slowly becoming equivalent to Elena Paparizou who is the nations swetheart. Who cares about racists and people saying she copied beyonce, try to do what she did and trust me in 20 seconds you will be d-e-a-d.

Do you think the Greek broadcaster regrets repeatedly saying no to their homegirl? No, they don’t. ERT (the Greek broadcaster) gives zero f’s about Eurovision. The former president (the one that also chose Argo in 2016) said that they see Eurovision as an obligation. The last couple of years they deny to pay any money for Eurovision, forcing the record labels to do so or searching for sponsors. Winning Eurovision and having to host would be their worst nightmare. So, they don’t regret not sending Eleni. They’re maybe even happy they didn’t. That being said, they sent an amazing and… Read more »

“The last couple of years they deny to pay any money for Eurovision, forcing the record labels to do so or searching for sponsors. ” Really?? Greece is in huge trouble since the financial crisis in 2008…its by far the most problematic country in EU, for sure they need to save money

Hence, they can use PRIVATE investors, as Eleni Foureira did this year.

Everyone wants to blame ERT, but I don’t think that’s entirely fair. Truth is, ERT has tried very valiantly to do well at Eurovision both this and last year. Last year they sent Demy backed by the so called “dream team” of Eurovision. The results were commercially successful in Greece, but Demy’s 19th place finish was a massive disappointment (and embarrassment). This year, they wanted a Greek language song, which is not a bad thing (as evidenced by the reporters complimenting Yianna for returning the Greek language to Eurovision). Yianna had a good song that was expected to do well,… Read more »
