In 2014, a brunette Conchita Wurst gave Austria its second-ever Eurovision win. Four years on, the Viennese diva has revealed a bold new look. Conchita unveiled her new blonde hair on the red carpet of the Life Ball 2018.

Conchita — who is a regular attendee of the Life Ball — debuted her new look upon arriving at the recent charity event in Vienna. Her wavy brunette locks had been replaced with a dramatic blonde style.

Conchita’s hair had been styled into a bowl cut at the front, with a longer mullet-inspired tail at the back. Of course, as Conchita wears a wig, all this could be gone in the morning.

More permanent, however, was Conchita’s beard. Her trademark facial hair had been bleached to match her new do.

The end result was a bold new look, unlike anything we’ve seen from Conchita before.

The “Rise Like a Phoenix” singer continued her androgynous aesthetic of recent years by wearing an elegant white sparkling pants suit.

Alive with the Sound of Music

At the event, Conchita’s new blonde look was put to work.

The theme of the Life Ball 2018 was a homage to the iconic musical The Sound of Music. Conchita took on the role of the Austrian nun Maria von Trapp. Conchita switched to a short blonde wig, similar to Julie Andrew’s hair in the film of the musical and wore lavish costumes inspired by the movie.

She was joined by other Austrian Eurovision alums. Zoe (2016) played the role of Louisa von Trapp, while Nathan Trent (2017) played brother Kurt. Together they delivered an updated take on the classic theme of the musical, as well as other songs.

The Life Ball is an annual gala and one of the largest charity events in the world. The glamorous celebrity-studded evening supports people living with HIV and Aids.

It’s a cause that is particularly close to Conchita. As well as being a long-term supporter of the Life Ball, earlier this year Conchita shared with fans that she has been HIV-positive for many years. The singer was supported and praised by fans for her bravery, honesty and courage.

What do you think of Conchita’s new look? Should she stick with blonde? Share your thoughts below!

Ohhh! I didn’t expect that! I prefer the dark hair, but it’s fine. It’s that that contrast I don’t really like.

You should also check out Conchita’s opening number, and Life Ball 2017, and opening 2015, those are the most AMAZING in my opinion.

It’s a very interesting new look. It’s always a brave step for an artist to change her appearance in a way that she’s hardly recognisable anymore (go ask Jennifer Grey about that…) so she deserves kudos for that.

Well yeah, but it’s sad that you kinda completely abandoned JESC and Wiwibloggs would be a great platform to inform people about the contest, after all you’re the “biggest independent Eurovision site.”

And still, nothing about the Russian JESC song…

Woah. Not sure how I feel about this bold new look for Conchita. She looks like Zeus or some Greek god or something.
Loving the platinum, but I think I would of kept the beard black.
Love how she constantly changes her style to stay fresh.

Her new style is awesome, that take on the Sound of Music is terrible.

Makemake Lead singer Dodo performed Conchita’s wedding song. So emotional! And Cesar gave a quite tacky but funny performance of his hit. All my favourite Austrian ESC acts united on the stage. Only missed Nadine.

Makes me wonder who the best supergroup would be if you combined all the entrants from that country. Austria, as evidenced by this, is near the top, but then there’s also Sweden (Mans, Robin, Carola, ABBA, the Ark, Roger Pontare, Bjorn Skifs, Herrey’s…), Moldova (all of ’em…just all of ’em), and Ireland (ditto) to consider.

Beyond that, what a great show! Digging the new look, too.

That’s up there. Not all of Takasa, though, just the old guy with the double bass.

Also in the running: Norway (Rybak, Bobbysocks, JOWST, Secret Garden, the late great Jan Werner Danielsen, Margaret Berger, and, of course, Jahn Teigen), the UK (imagine a collab with Lucie, SuRie, Olivia Newton-John, Sonia, Katrina, Michael Ball, and Frances Ruffelle…also throw Love City Groove in there just ‘cuz I like ’em), and Germany (Michael Schulte, Nicole, Lena, Cascada, Silver Convention, Katja Ebstein…and Dschinghis Khan).

There was an exceptionally cute guy in Takasa, as well. I wouldn’t mind the smoky-voiced singer from Zibbz, the cutie from Takasa, Celine Dion, the old gent from Takasa, one of the early chanteuses, and Sebalter.

Can the medley at the the end of the 60th anniversary concert be beaten? I think that counts as a supergroup.
