With the summer heat rising, and the annual avalanche of feel-good summer bops already upon us, one couldn’t fault Madame Monsieur for wanting to create music with a lighter, feel-good focus.
But with their latest release “Comme une reine” (Like A Queen) — the second single from their album Vu d’ici (Seen from Here) — the electro-pop duo continue to tackle pressing topics.
Following on the heels of “Mercy” — and its focus on immigration and the plight of refugees seeking a better life in a new land — “Madame” Emilie Satt and “Monsieur” Jean-Karl Lucas draw fire from the #MeToo movement. “Comme Une Reine” echoes the chants of female empowerment, body image acceptance, owning your uniqueness and loving yourself. This all about wearing your crown.
The music starts out slow and methodical, creating the same cool vibe that draws you in on their other tracks. Emilie’s smooth vocals lend confidence – but quickly, synth beats and finger snaps imbue the music with a more optimistic tone. Purity shines through the production, putting the song’s message centre stage.

Reflecting these themes, and appreciating the love of their fans in the process, Madame Monsieur recently asked their followers to film clips of themselves dancing to the song.
They’ve now put together a compilation video that features people of all ages, races and body types dancing their hearts out to the new single, and reflecting what makes each of us unique.

Supporting SOS Mediterranée
Madame Monsieur finished in 13th place in the Grand Final in Lisbon.
They charmed with their magnetic personalities and monochromatic style, and stirred our souls with their song “Mercy” — inspired by the real-life story of a child born on board L’Aquarius, an SOS Mediterranée rescue boat that saves the lives of migrants making the treacherous journey from North Africa to Europe.
Emilie and Jean-Karl have not forgotten the importance of “Mercy” or the significant issues it brought to light about migrant welfare and Europe’s attitude toward people in need. They recently filmed a short public service announcement for SOS Mediterranée and their #Aquarius movement.
The ship has been the centre of a storm recently, following the news that both Malta and Italy turned the ship away. It eventually docked in Spain.
