What do you get when you cross one of Eurovision’s best songwriters with this year’s breakout superstar of Eurovision? Sweet bliss!

Doron Medalie, the man who wrote this year’s Eurovision winning song “Toy”, has announced that he will be collaborating with this year’s Eurovision runner-up Eleni Foureira for a new single titled “Caramela”.

Despite being rivals on this year’s Eurovision stage, Doron and Eleni have a rich history of working together in the past. In 2015, Eleni recorded her version of Medalie’s “Golden Boy”, Israel’s entry for Eurovision that year. Her cover has amassed almost 20 million views on YouTube, and has now become part of Eleni’s repertoire of hits. She even performed it at this year’s Wiwi Jam in Lisbon.

In 2016, the pair collaborated again in an attempt to represent Greece at Eurovision with the heavily ethnopop “Come Tiki Tam”. Greece ultimately chose Argo with the ethnic “Utopian Land”, which went on to become Greece’s first non-qualifier.

Speaking about his latest collaboration with Eleni, Medalie says:

“Eleni Foureira and I are good friends and really enjoy working together. She really wanted to come to the Gay Pride parade in Tel Aviv but did not make it because of a tight schedule. Eleni is aware of the Israeli audience love, and I send her so many videos of people dancing to “Fuego”. Now that we (Israel) have won the Eurovision and the Cyprus threat is gone, I believe that an exciting reunion will soon be formed between Eleni and the Israeli audience.”

“Caramela”, written by Doron, Moshe Peretz and Avi Ohayon, was released in Israel last year by Moshe, amassing over 25 million views. With a sound that would not be out of place on salsa and bachata dancefloors worldwide, the song combines a Latino flair with typical Israeli banger beats. Have a listen to Moshe’s version below.

Eleni, who is currently touring Europe, will no doubt bring her unique Latin flair from “Fuego” to this new sickly-sweet collaboration. Our Foureira thigh-high boots are quaking!

OK, I’ve heard it. why did they keep the Hebrew lines in the background voices?

Eleni can do better. I don’t like Doron. If her song is successful, he’ll say his successes are more important, a “win” for him.

Hi Eyal 🙂 Reading your lovely comment and so surprised to see you got -3 (down) votes (now it is just -2, as I gave you an up vote 🙂 ) I just don’t get why would people down vote such a positive comment!? What’s going on here?

Why doesn’t she release her own music?
Her latest singles are all cover made
E.g. Sto theo me paei, To kati, Gigi in Paradisco…
And now Caramela…

She does release her own music too : Mono gia Sena (2017) + Vasilissa (2017) + Fuego (2018).
Plus many more songs since 2007.

I know she does. But in the past 2 years, 50% of her singles were covers.
Maybe she can’t find nice, catchy songs. I don’t know…
Also I would love her to go out of her comfort zone a bit & start singing ballads & mid-tempo songs.
What she does is EXCELLENT, but after a point it becomes too repetitive and she won’t last in the music industry if she continues in this path
That’s just my opinion. I don’t wanna be sound rude. If Eleni reads my comment she should interpret it as constructive criticism.

But she has done that too, check out Anemos Agapis on Youtube. That’s way different from her usual bop.

@Rtio Eleni said is gonna release a new single in a couple of weeks. This one is just a cover for her performance in Mad Video Music Awards 2018.

“now that the Cyprus threat is gone” – mega lolz
Shows just how serious the threat was and if it wasn’t for all the paid adverts all around Europe on the day of the final that Israel sponsored I’m not sure the result would be the same

Honey, Cyprus lost because your song was generic and the vocals were poor. stop lying to yourself. it also appears this singer is only famous ‘cuz she covers Israeli hits. she basically owns her success to Israel..

save the patronising language for you and your friends. There was a 60 point difference in the public vote between Cyprus and Israel in the first semi-final, a gap which was adequately dealt with by Israel sponsored adverts in the final. I agree the song is generic but Netta couldn’t pull off that dance routine while maintaining her vocals even if she trained a year for it.

ESC is a SONG contest – NOT a dancing one Funkerman25 (what obviously explains the difference in favor of “Toy” with the Juries). BTW – Netta’s performance in the final was also better than in the semi – hence – succeeded to convince the much bigger public watching the final (and winning the televote). Get over your delusion.

Netta was indeed better in the final than the semi but it was shocking and appalling to see adverts on websites and apps everywhere in the UK to vote for Netta on the day of the final. You can’t say it’s all about the song and at the same time bombard people with adverts to persuade them it is. I am also tired of the argument that its all about the song. If the only way to judge a singer is their song, there would be no contests or concerts, no shows, no staging and no performance. The song contest… Read more »

Doron Medalie wrote a song about my hometown ”Bucharest” and he also wrote the song ”Tel Aviv” that was the anthem of first ”Israel Calling” in 2016. Both ”Bucharest” and ”Tel Aviv” are sung by Omer Adam. I hope he will do something similar for Eleni, maybe a song called ”Nicosia”.
