Whether slaying her way to fourth place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 or judging The Voice of BulgariaPoli Genova knows how to keep her cool. Now, with her latest single “Perfect Love”, she’s turning up the temperature and things are getting hot.

Poli takes a new direction here, stripping back the edginess of “If Love Was a Crime” and giving off more sophisticated and heartfelt emotions. That’s thanks partly to prolific Macedonian songwriter and producer Boban Apostolov, professionally known as NaBBoo, who has dreamed up a healthy slice of tropical fire. Joining him on Team Poli is Irish singer-songwriter and lyricist Miceal O’Kane. Together the trio serve non-stop sizzle, while Poli retains her quiet confidence.

The music video keeps the summer breeze blowing. Directed by Tomislov Mihailov-Chocho and shot on location over two days on the resort island of Lefkada on the western coast of Greece, the scenery seems to stoke Poli’s passions and empowers her with  a sense of happiness. She has no choice but to declare those feelings both to the world and to the camera, which seemingly serves as the unseen love himself.

Whether snuggling up under the covers, soaking up the warm Greek sun in an infinity pool, running across a sandy white beach, or frolicking in a magical waterfall lagoon, Poli has one clear message for the object of her affection: She’s in this for the long haul, and she wants her love to feel as confident about their love as she does.

As she says in the lyrics:

I know when you look in my eyes,

You can see right down into my soul

You know the depths of me are good,

But doubt can fool us all

We both know how, this story will go

I can hear it in your voice

And I know, you know,

That we both wanna make this choice

In June Poli debuted the song with a live performance at the 2018 BG Radio Music Awards. She received raucous applause from the audience, reminding us that her admirers are alive and well.

There isn’t any hint of who Poli’s “perfect” love may be, or if the song is written from her own experience and perspective. What is clear is that rumours continue to swirl that she wants a third attempt at the Eurovision Song Contest, having previously competed in 2011 as well as 2016.

Known for her mix of futuristic and cutting-edge fashion, infectious energy and open mind, Poli has gained legions of fans across Europe (and beyond). Her 2016 anthem “If Love Was A Crime” gave Bulgaria its best result ever at Eurovision at the time and remains on playlists from London to Luanda.
