Dutch singer and Eurovision 2010 contestant Sieneke is battling through a difficult period. While touring the Netherlands, she learned that police are investigating her relatives for involvement in an alleged drugs lab that produced ecstasy and MDMA. The story has been all over the Dutch media recently, with Sieneke’s manager telling AD that the singer is “shocked” by recent events. So much so that Sieneke felt forced to give a response on Twitter.

At the beginning of July police uncovered an alleged drug lab in the city of Nijmegen. Later it came out that Sieneke‘s family members — specifically her brother, uncle and grandfather — were suspected of involvement. Investigations are still ongoing. The family maintain that they only rented out the property and had no idea what was going on.

After plenty of attention in the Dutch press, Sieneke felt obligated to release the following statement.

Translation:

‘Dear everyone,

Normally I shouldn’t have to respond to this. However, since I always have been open and honest and continue to do so, here’s my short reaction to what happened last week.

It’s has been a turbulent week for me, my family and my relatives. As long as the investigation is ongoing, a lot of uncertainties remain, so giving a broader reaction is impossible. What I have experienced the last week has been  difficult. I’m being looked at for things I have nothing to do with. I am not responsible for what other people do. Also, besides being a singer, I’m a mother of two beautiful children.  Therefore I hope that everything will calm down. With a lot of positive energy I will tour throughout the country in the upcoming weeks. Also I will be recording my new single this week. Beautiful times are ahead of me.

I would like to end this message with a word of thanks to all my fans. All the positive comments I have received have been a great support

Love, Sieneke’

She’s moving forward

In the meantime Sieneke has tried to put her worries about the case aside and is currently touring the Netherlands — from village to city and plenty of townships in between. In March 2018 she released a new single ‘Denk je altijd nog aan haar‘ and according to her statement more new material is on the way.

Here she is delighting the crowds at Café Halosta in Aalst.

Omg, leave legend Sieneke out of this! She’s only responsible for giving us the best song in the history of Eurovision. We should FORGIVE.

Not even in the Netherlands people care. Yes, everyone knows her, but for exactly the same wrong reason as the rest of Europe: her trailer trash eurovision song.

Fun fact: I felt like being on drugs while watching the 2010 Dutch national final.
