In 2009 she asked if it was true that she had thrown it all away. But last weekend the only thing Iceland’s Yohanna threw away was her wedding bouquet, as she got married to her long-time boyfriend Davíð Sigurgeirsson.

The pair, who been an item for years and have a young daughter together, tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Garðakirkja church, which is located in a town very close to the Icelandic capital Reykjavík. The bride wore a modest yet beautiful white dress and was as radiant as always.

The “Is it True?” singer might have thought back in 2009 that she was falling out of a perfect dream, but in 2018 she sure is living her dream with her lovely hubby.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the ceremony was filled with various music and among the performers were Söngvakeppnin alumni Stefanía Svavarsdóttir (2013, 2015, 2018) and Elísabet Ormslev (2016).

And of course you can’t have a wedding of two musicians without getting them on the stage. In celebration of their happy day the two lovebirds performed “Power of Love” — the iconic song originally performed by Eurovision winner Celine Dion.

Apart from taking silver home for Iceland in 2009, Yohanna has taken part in Söngvakeppnin — Iceland’s national final — two other times. And one of her participations was in the company of her now husband Davíð Sigurgeirsson, a prominent guitar player and songwriter in Iceland, who wrote the song “Þú” (eng. You).

Next on the schedule for this busy lady — apart from her honeymoon — is the holiday season and the annual Icelandic Christmas concert extravaganza. Each year the Icelandic people can choose from a real smörgåsbord of different concerts and happenings to get them into the holiday spirit. And fans of Yohanna will get the chance to listen to her beautiful voice along with fellow former Eurovision contestant Eyþór Ingi — who represented Iceland in 2013 with the only song sung in Icelandic since 1997 “Ég á líf

Although he’s undoubtedly a good musician I am less certain about his songwriting skills as that song You was really poor. I feel very frustrated about Yohanna because she could have achieved so much more. Her last album was excellent but it was ten years ago. She has really underavhieved. Playing to small venues has not advertised her talent. What went wrong.
