Hungary’s national selection A Dal 2019 continued tonight, with four acts qualifying for the grand final. Acoustic Planet, Petruska, Bence Vavra and The Middletonz will be heading to the A Dal grand final in two weeks time.

The first three qualifiers were determined by a combination of televote and an expert jury made up of A Dal jury regulars Magnun Cum Laude lead singer Misi Mező and award-winning performer and composer Miklós Both, while rock legend Feró Nagy, singer-songwriter and former Eurovision jury member Lilla Vincze join the jury this year.

The vote was won by Acoustic Planet who scored 45 points. Next was Petruska and Bence Vavra, who followed with 42 points each.

The fourth qualifier was selected by a second round of public voting. The public agreed with the results of the first round — the fourth spot went to András Kállay-Saunders’ group The Middletonz who had also placed fourth in the first round. The Middletonz has also won the public vote in the first round, tying with DENIZ.

Fan favourites yesyes were also eliminated from the show, placing eighth overall.

The qualifiers will go on to compete in the grand final on 23 February. They’ll be joined by the qualifiers from the second semi-final next week.

A Dal 2019 – semi-final 1 results

  1. Acoustic Planet – “Nyári zápor” (45 points)
  2. Petruska – “Help Me Out of Here” (42 points)
  3. Bence Vavra – “Szótlanság” (42 points)
  4. The Middletonz – “Roses” (41 points)
  5. Konyha – “Százszor visszajátszott” (38 points)
  6. The Sign – “Ő” (37 points)
  7. yesyes – “Incomplete” (35 points)
  8. DENIZ – “Ide várnak vissza” (35 points)
  9. USNK – “Posztolj” (34 points)

A Dal 2019 continues next week, with the next nine acts competing live in the second semi-final.

i truly hope slashkovic from the middletonz will stop saying the “n-word”. on his instagram he constantly uses it and it really is not a good idea. in general it’s just bad and disrespectful, but when you’re in a dal with the chance of representing hungary at esc it’s just stupid. he will get hate and people wont respect him for saying a disrespectful word just because it sounds cool. as a dutch person myself it’s embarrassing to see him use it so casually smh

The draw is already interesting as almost all of the publics favourite from the heats (except Fatal Error) were in the first semifinal. And all that qualified through public voting have already been eliminated. Fatal Error is right now in a great position to take this home. High votes from judges and public, drawn in the „easier“ semifinal to go through at least with public vores (although I believe that they will likely go through with judges already). And judging from the heats and first semifinal, only The Middletonz could be a contender in a public vote, and right now,… Read more »

OMG, this jury really tries to fail or what? It will all be forgiven if Gergo Szeker wins, but so far the contest doesn’t seem to be going in the right direction.

The juries don’t like it when The Middletonz swear.

I have a splitted oppinion of the jury this year. On the one hand they are right that Petruska has a right being in the final, on the other hand I can’t understand why they didn’t let DENIZ and The Middlestones passing through.
Those are the ones, that I would have liked to see passing through, also if my favourites were in parts already eliminated in the heats. (Leander Kills, Oliver Berkes, Salvus, Heatlie David).

First of all, they allocated the songs the most terrible way possible, so this first semi-final was extremely strong and tough. I personally had 6 favourites there. So I had to lose no matter of the result. But they decided to hit me in the most painful way and to eliminate my winners, Konyha. Still can’t fully accept that they are out only because of Fero. He was the only judge that gave them 6 points, while the rest gave 8 each. It’s just insane to give 6 points to such a masterpiece! What was his problem with them? They… Read more »

Yesyes were SO improved this week. Definitely should’ve came first.
I love Acoustic Planet but don’t think they should be finalists.

Acoustic Planet over Yesyes? Screw this! Yesyes were the best but now I don’t see Hungary getting into the top 10 unless they send the Middletonz (and they weren’t as popular as Yesyes).
Hungary screwed up and they know it, and idk if they could get people behind them again.
Don’t @ me!

Hungary messed it up this year. Juries will not key the only good song, Roses, get to the super final. Smh. They might lose their streak this year

Ok , it seems like this will be the first time since 2015 that hungary is gonna flop in my top. DENIZ was amazing (and i loved that girl’s vocals)

I hate our jury more and more in every week. If they put The Middletonz in their top4, I’m almost sure they would win, but after tonight, I’m hopless. 🙁

yesyes 35 points. Great job. Now you just have to eliminate Joci and Gergo and I won’t be watching the final. I can’t see the Middletonz winning as long as the jury is decided to not use his ears.
In France, we thougt we were sending bad songs because it was too expansive to organize if we won. Maybe it is the case this year with Hungary who eliminates its strongest songs.
Love what Hungary sends every year but this selection is amazing and it’s such a heartache to see those eliminations. At least we discover great songs

Based on tonight’s performances, these four qualifiers were the obvious choice. I really love the Acoustic Planet song and I guess it will be my overall favourite in A Dal by the time of the final.

At first I was worried about Middletonz not winning the superfinal, now I am worried about them not even getting there thanks to these fossil judges.

No, because it’s clear the jury wants to kill the favorites
