She’s been the sweetheart of the past two editions of the Ukrainian national selection Vidbir. But sadly Tayanna announced her decision to not take part in this year’s edition ahead of the first semi, saying that other performers would be more deserving to represent Ukraine in Tel Aviv. However, the two-time runner-up and fan favourite still recorded the song she intended to send to the stage. And, while we respect her decision, we feel she was very deserving to fly the Ukrainian flag.

“Ochi” (meaning “Eyes”) is, written by Vitaliy Telezin and, like her previous entries “I Love You” and “Leyla”, Tayanna herself. It’s far more experimental than her last efforts, and the growth of her songwriting has really shown. It carries the energy of “Leyla”, whilst maintaining the raw drama of “I Love You”. It has solid production including strings, ethnic elements and heavy beats, pulled together by Tayanna’s wonderfully strong voice. There are also some dramatic spoken-word elements which feel very in-place in this deep and powerful piece. Tayanna has only gone from strength to strength, and it’s a real shame we won’t see how it would’ve been staged.

TAYANNA – “Ochi”

The release of the song was accompanied by a press release, which also features a description of the song by Tayanna herself.

An expected premier of Tayanna’s new track – “Eyes”. An unbelievable synergy of several music cultures, elements of folk ethics, oriental motives and complicated vocals all together found their place in the new composition of the future album “Fantastic woman”.

“It’s a song about a fairy who lives in every woman, her sheer magic is in her eyes. That’s what men often pay attention to, that’s why I have decided to tell this story about an unbelievable woman, woman-magician, whose eyes exude the power of her weakness and tenderness” says Tayanna about her new composition.

Vitaliy Terezin, who is famous for his work on the previous album of the singer “ Hold me”, which was recognized by music critics as “the best release of the year 2017”, became a sound-producer of the single. He also worked on the hit-blockbuster “Fantastic woman” that went to the top of Ukrainian radio charts.

On the 9th of March a presentation concert of Tayanna’s new album will be held in the club Bel’Etage. Some famous singers such as Alekseev, Kadnay, Laud, band, Luiku, Marta Adamchuk, Vera Kekelia, Ruslan Kvinta and Misha Marvin will also take part in the concert.

Tayanna has become a beloved fixture on the Ukrainian music scene since debuting at Vidbir. At the 2018 Ukrainian music awards, the Golden Firebirds, Tayanna won Clip of the Year and Female Singer of the Year, beating Eurovision stars Alyosha and Zlata Ognevich. And despite never performing at the contest itself, she’s won the hearts of Eurovision fans too.

Since taking part in Vidbir since 2017 – the year Ukraine hosted Eurovision – Tayanna has been a solid fan favourite. Her first song “I Love You” was a classic female power ballad and the favourite of the Wiwi Jury and the fans. Despite winning with the jury and equalling the top score, the televoters went for rock band O.Torvald and Tayanna came second. Her 2018 entrant “Leyla” was a more upbeat song and also won with our jury and fans, but again was overlooked by the televote and came second to Melovin. We will never know what would have befallen “Ochi”, but with Tayanna just becoming stronger and stronger as a musician, we are hopeful that she will continue to excite us more in the future. And we wish her all the best luck for her album launch in March.

Only Filatov was somewhat reasonable (4 points to Maruv). And Maruv said that she expected 7-8 points from him.
Just one viral song and she thinks she’s a superstar 😀

Kazka had a terrible performance. So boring. Nothing new and song is mainstream and her vocals are sour.

Would have been in contention to win. Maruv would have won the televote though. Could have seen her coming anywhere from 5th to 2nd in the semi final

Maruv was not in the competition till Tayanna withdrawed… So it would have not been possible.

Like she looked at what Illaria had last year and thought, “I want me some of that!”
