Greek-Georgian goddess Tamta was announced as Eleni Foureira’s successor back in December. And ever since then Eurovision fans have been waiting to hear “Replay”. The snippet left us wanting more. Now our appetites are fully sated with the full release of this toe-tapping, addictive and thoroughly contemporary track. Say it with me now: The hype is real.

The song has an infectious quality that starts from the opening bars. On-point production set the modern vibe into motion before Tamta uses her sensual voice to tell a story of romantic, and dare we say lustful, obsession. The song builds to a horn-fuelled chorus that’s really pumped up by the bass. Your body literally reverberates.

The playful lyrics cast Tamta as a temptress who knowingly sends a man spinning into madness. Thinking of Tamta, he just can’t sleep.

You got a problem,
Two am I’m in your head,
Let’s just be honest tonight.

Me I can solve it,
You’re twisting, turning in your bed
The sheets need my body tonight

The song is mainstream, radio-friendly and very now. The music video gives it all a bit of edge and grit, delivering a product that’s more avant-garde and out there. We see Tamta playing the role of enchantress in several guises — from pink-veiled other-worldly beauty to Dominatrix in black (chains included) to urban swag-inista watching over a group shower scene.

Let’s be honest tonight: This is next level fabulous!

Cyprus: Eurovision 2019 reaction video

Tamta at Eurovision

Back in January, Tamta caught up with wiwibloggs in Athens. This was her first Eurovision interview since being announced as the Cypriot entry. She discussed her attempt to represent Greece in 2007 with the song “With Love” and coming close to representing them in 2015 with “Unloved“. In 2019, she will finally grace the Eurovision stage and she isn’t unloved any more.

Tamta has an enviable record collaborating with Eurovision stars of the past. She has worked with Eurovision 2005 winner Helena Paparizou, Eurovision 2018 golden boy Mikolas Josef and perennial Eurovision hopeful M I H A I. She has also collaborated with numerous artists from Greece and Georgia. She’s great in groups, but Tamta’s next big adventure will be totally solo (bar, we expect, a few dancers).

What feedback do you have for Tamta? Are you mashing the replay button already? Let us know in the comments below.

Thank God it’s good! It reminds me of Fuego I must say but it’s more mainstream pop. I love the music video! Good luck to Tamta! She’ll slay!

Fuego was always going to be a tough one to follow. This isn’t quite as instant and the singer doesn’t have that likeability factor which Eleni oozed. Nice arty video tho

You all are devastated because Cyprus followed the same recipe even though the melodies of the two songs are completely different. Let me remind you that you didn’t like Fuego up until the first rehearsal. So spare us the drama…

So sorry to disappoint you guys on here… but I love love this!!! My fave so far… And I couldn’t care less if there is similarities to Fuego… Alex P is a genius… In regards to staging… of course the team behind this will bring it….

I’ve seen so many people complaining about Australia’s song being “the generic eurovision Pop-Opera we’ve seen before”, so how come everyone is living for this half-assed Fuego wannabe? I know it’s a crime Fuego didn’t win last year but that didn’t mean we need Fuego’s least attractive twin to represent Cyprus this year.

Fuego is ethopop with ethnic drums/melody, replay is urban r&b. If you think everything is the same because two songs have a strong bass that’s on you. Spain’s song is the same Spanish melody and beat you get everytime you hear something Spanish. The Balkans send the same balkan ballads all the time and come top 3. I am not sure why Cyprus is everyone’s problem.

Almost a verbatim copy of “Fuego”, last years entry from Cyprus. Which was good, but I think the audience will notice that this is a copy and will not approve it.

HOW can you perform this live?

The vocals are sang through a filter. The song itself is great, but it’s not something that can be done live well–At least not easily. Nice to hear on the radio though.

Too reminiscent of Alex Papaconstantinou’s effort from last year. Customize it by replacing certain elements from producyion, change the lyrics but you still essentially get a recreated Fuego. It’s bad enough we don’t have actual Cypriot talents contributing to their country’s entry this year when they’re certainly not short of singers and songwriters.

This is a derivative of last year’s song, which itself felt very derivative.

So much negative criticism from the fans. In my opinion, it is about time there is a bouncy number in this years Eurovision play list. The contest lacks songs of this genre which in general has much appeal with the right performance and arrangement. Yes there are similarities to Fuego from last year, but this is what the writer does best, this is his line of music which obviously CyBC are happy with and wants to repeat it. I can recall a year ago well before the contest people were more obsessed with the pineapples in the video to Fuego… Read more »

Off-topic: Duncan’s song has just leaked: it is called ‘Arcade’, and it is giving me ‘Amar Pelos Dois’ and ‘Calm after Storm’ vibes. I really see it fighting for the win. It is really slow, atmospheric, and jazzy- a huge risk, but it may really pay off. in a year of craziness.

That’s a good top 3 for sure 😉

Hatari is not my number one cause during the song i’m really into the track when the other guy is hitting the falsetto, that’s just awesome(Muse kind of awesome)… however in between i find myself just looking to the stage and the guy almost naked (which i think it’s daring, he got those buttcheeks trained well ^.^ ) and not playing too much attention to the song :p

You don’t need to be a bully. If you think this, you should keep it to yourself. She is doing her and there’s no need to use this kind of language against her. If you are joking about this, then that’s pretty low.

I’ve watched Tamtas live performances on the Greek music awards online , yes it’s like fuego slightly but it’s not differing from other songs in the Greek music industry on summer playlists like Kings band or indeed what she has had on her discography from mad music awards . She can sing live well and got good fashion sense. Eleni foureira is sort of more down pop road Tamta is more urban artsy . Tamta sings really well ingreek it’s more impact

Sacha Jean Baptiste is gonna have to work overtime this year. The song lacks the impact Fuego had just because it’s similar in style and we all expected that to be the case. And that music video is so random and has nothing to do with the song. I hope Cyprus don’t turn into Bulgaria and overdo everything just for the sake of looking more avant-guarde and artistic then thier song actually is.

Here we go again with the haters. When Fuego came out everyone thought it was a bad copy of Greek/Cypriot ESC songs of the 2000-2010. Then it came alive on stage and all of a sudden it became a pop banger, the only real contender apart from Israel and a benchmark now (apparently) for all future participations from Cyprus . Replay has a captivating pre-chorus and an explosive sound. Fuego never had either. It was merely elevated and saved by its execution.

Guys, it’s official : we will twice again have song avalanche on Super Thursday and Super Friday.

Super Friday : Austria, North Macedonia, Poland, Ireland, Azerbaijan.
Might pop out of nowhere : Armenia, Malta, Russia.

I’ll tell you the difference: Fuego: a young hot woman trying to get you men, dancing with hair, going wild and so on. Replay: an elegant lady (Tamta is around 40!) walking to you in heels, sit next to you, holding a glass of wine. Replay has more avantgardistic, sassy, elegant vibes, whereas Fuego was the wild banger. So I can love both! 😀

It really sounds like an unauthorized parody of Fuego that needed some slight melody changes not to be sued. Will do fine at Eurovision parties but overall I’m quite disappointed.

Most of us weren’t a big fan of Fuego until Eleni turned up the heat on stage. I wish just the same for Replay. And would love to see Cyprus win and host soon 🙂 good luck.

Lightning doesn’t strike twice, does it?
It’s a nice little summer bop but Cyprus is really copying itself. It worked once, it will not work again.
If her performance is as magnetic as Eleni’s then it could be top 10..

Y’all are gonna eat your words when this finishes in the top five. This sounds more urban and more polished than Fuego. Can definitely see jurors loving this. And while Tamta does not have the stage presence of Eleni, she can still deliver a banging performance and imo, sounds way better live than Eleni. Plus they have SJB back, so you just know they won’t mess up the staging.

Not all upbeat bangers are Fuego 2.0.
