Sergey Lazarev Scream Lyrics

He’s currently the bookies’ favourite to win Eurovision 2019 — despite the fact his song hasn’t dropped yet. And in just a few hours — as hope and hype continue to build — all will be made clear when Sergey Lazarev shares his song contest entry “Scream” and its official music video.

Ahead of today’s reveal AT 17:00 CET, the 2016 televote winner has confirmed the song title “Scream” and its lyrics with wiwibloggs.

The text plays on the intensity of tears — which can burn and leave us out of breath. Tears may run clear, but Sergey knows they carry with them the regrets, fear and pain we all inevitably experience. As he sings:

Maybe they can’t be heard or seen
But tears aren’t quiet things

They scream
They scream

At one point Sergey sounds as if he’s trying to maintain composure as he waits for someone to avert their eyes.

Though my throat is on fire
My eyes will be liars
And they’ll try to stay drier
Until you turn away

You can read the full lyrics at the end of this post.

??The time has come: Saturday 9 March at 17.00 CET we will release the Eurovision entry for Russia. I really hope you will all LOVE the song as much as I did from the first time I listened to it. This is a new journey for me and I am so excited for it. Thank you @fkirkorov not only for your contribution to the song, but most of all for being always there for me like a brother. True friendship exists in show business and you are the best example of this. Thank you @dimitriskontopoulos for this powerful melody, the great production and all of the hours of work you have spent for this song. @Sharon_Vaughn your words gave meaning to the melody. It’s an honor working with you and singing your lyrics. @moscow_symphony_orchestra your contribution gave a different meaning to the song. I am so glad that we managed to bring live orchestra back to eurovision, even in this way. @the_andrew_weed you are the best sound engineer I have ever worked with. @alxpanayi thank you for your patience, you are a true professional. Finally the biggest thanks goes to everyone in channel “Russia” for trusting me, for the second time, to represent our country. I promise you all to do my best in order to honor your decision. “Tears aren’t quiet things …” #sergeylazarev #????????????? #eurovision2019 #Russia photo by @dvelichko ????

Sergey’s music video for “Scream”

The director of his music video, Konstantin Cherepkov, promises something ambitious and with a defined narrative.

Speaking to wiwibloggs, he explained the complex story behind the music video.

“The story of the video clip was inspired by the fears we all carry from childhood, and which as we grow up become ‘screams’,” he says.

“The young boy symbolises our hero Sergey, while the island symbolises the end point of a journey we should all take in order to overcome our fears. The strong melody, the powerful lyrics and the amazing performance of Sergey inspired me to create this unique dark video clip with a strong message to everyone.”

Scream lyrics — Sergey Lazarev

No I can’t stay here longer
You cannot make me cry
So, I will leave you to wonder
What will become of our lives

I’ll swallow hard
Fall apart
Break and bleed but
You won’t see

Tears won’t fall
While pride stands tall
Maybe they can’t be heard or seen
But tears aren’t quiet things

They scream
They scream

Though my throat is on fire
My eyes will be liars
And they’ll try to stay drier
Until you turn away

I’ll swallow hard
Fall apart
Break and bleed but
You won’t see

Tears will fall
I hear them all

They scream
They scream

Not so silent and innocent
Acid rain from your finger prints
Echoes rivers of loneliness
Hitting the walls of my heart

I didn’t like it much after the first listening….but from the second on, it has some kind of “dark epic” vibe I can’t shake off.
I personally like it much!

Not loving scream lol bit disappointed but you can see this would be so easy to stage and is going to have an impact.

Okay. The Netherlands is winning. There is no way the juries will vote for Sergay’s dramatic dated ballad. Period.

I just realized my posts get quoted in the youtube section, so I better be careful what I write and need to censor myself from here on out O_O

If Sergey wants to undo homophobia in Russia with this song, I’m sold on it. He’d be my Sir Gay forever

Sorry but they did a big fuff and then it’s just this generic pop ballad?
And quite boring too tbh.
They want to appeal juries but there’s much better pop ballads in the competition. And I don’t think they’ll convince televote with this , not even with a massive stage production.

I do not understand why people are wishing that the song release is bad. Don’t we want a country to send the best and do well in an effort to maximise the song quality.

Tears aren’t quiet things, they scream, sounds a bit like a Doctor Who episode teaser if you ask me. But again, I’ll wait to see how it fits in the song.

Yeah, that does sound like something out of Doctor Who. I can imagine the Doctor saying something like that. I sometimes think there are eurovision songs that fit well with the show.

I do have an episode idea of Doctor and Companion travelling to Restoration England and befriending Nell Wynn, and then help her to seduce King Charles II by the companion teaching Nell the choreo of Fuego.

Just for the unintentional « swallow hard » part, Sergey deserves some credit 😀 rest of the lyrics basically seem like talking about someone’s first gay experience bottoming 😀 « throat on fire », « breaking and bleeding ». Gurl, I feel you.

Against all odds I think I’ll enjoy that song xD

The lyrics are bit generic, but is Russia so they’ll put a lot of effort and money in their performance. What I actually don’t understand, sorry but this is going to be off topic, is the behaviour most of the people has in this community, and talking about Eurovision in general. What is seems is that there’s nations that you can’t don’t like it, if you do you are an hater; no ones are out of the game by critics, and we have to be free to explain our ideas, even if we don’t like Sweden, or Cyprus, or Spain,… Read more »

The song that deserves to win is the song with the biggest combination of Jury and Televote….that song was “1944” by Jamala. Russia’s pyrotechnics did not convince the jurors of the merit of the song. That is why Russia came third. They will need to do better in 2019 to win.

Cypriot entry is the only one which can stand really well outside the contest as well. Pop upbeat fun enjoyable. Let the ballads stragle to cancel each other while tamta will offer happyness and fun to the contest. That’s the most important about the contest cause the last years the winners are worthless…

I din’t say he will win the public vote. I think he will score very high, potentially enough to win with the combo (jury+televoting). It’s not that hard to see that he’s coming with something for the juries.
“The televoting in the bag” is probably what he thinks (I hope he’s wrong tho ^^)
