She was known for surviving many a sing-off on X Factor. And proving her staying power once more, Saara Aalto skated her way to the grand final of Dancing on Ice having survived the skate off on three occasions.

But all good things must come to an end. On Sunday the Eurovision 2018 singer finished third in the skating final, missing out on the chance to perform Torvill and Dean’s iconic Bolero routine.

Grand final routines

A circus themed routine saw Saara deliver a flawless routine and she got her first 10 of the series, with all four judges from the Ice Panel giving her the perfect score, putting her joint first with Love Island’s Wes Nelson who also got a total score of 40.

However, as it’s the final, the judges’ scores were for guidance purposes only and didn’t count towards the final scores, as the British public were the ones making that all-important decision.

Judges’ scores

1= Saara Aalto and Hamish Gaman – 40.0
1= Wes Nelson and Vanessa Bauer – 40.0
2. James Jordan and Alexandra Schauman – 39.0

Favourite skate of the series

Saara’s second routine involved her skating to a previous routine from this series. And she chose the puppet themed Eurovision classic from week 5 — Sandie Shaw’s “Puppet on a String”.

Saara timed it to perfection with another flawless routine, which earned her another 40 from all four judges of the Ice Panel. Once again their scores were for guidance purposes only and don’t count towards the final scores.

Judges’ scores

James Jordan and Alexandra Schauman – 40.0 (40.0 from the semi-final)
Saara Aalto and Hamish Gaman – 40.0 (33.5 from week 5)
Wes Nelson and Vanessa Bauer – 40.0 (34.0 from week 5)

After lines for the public votes were frozen, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield has announced that James Jordan and Wes Nelson advanced as the final two.

What did you think of Saara’s routines? Did she deserve to be in the final two? You can let us know in the comments below.

She did great even though most people didn’t know who she was.

Taking part in competitions is cool but it’s getting tiring to see her in every competition show on TV. I think that’s the only way for fame in UK but she needs a different approach.

It’s nice that she got a small tour in UK to keep her busy and connect with her fans. She’s really talented. I think she will do Eurovision in a couple years and she should do a ballad next time.

There’s clearly a typo in the title, she must have finished second!
