Eurovision 2019 semi final 2

“Chameleon” from Malta’s Michela and “Walking Out” from Armenia’s Srbuk dropped on Sunday, completing the line-up for semi-final two of Eurovision 2019.

The journey began way back in December when Albania selected Jonida Maliqi  and “Ktheju tokës”. In between we’ve had a whole host of genres.

As usual, there’s no shortage of ballads. Moldova’s Anna Odobescu with “Stay” and North Macedonia’s Tamara Todevska with “Proud” continue the tradition of big-lunged females. Meanwhile, Croatia’s Roko with “The Dream” and Russia’s Sergey Lazarev with “Scream” are doing it for the boys.

Ireland and Denmark trade in whimsy courtesy of Sarah McTernan’s “22” and “Leonora’s “Love Is Forever”. Austria’s blue-haired PAENDA enchants with the ethereal “Limits”.

Heartbreaking moments are a common theme as Latvia’s Carousel and Romania’s Ester Peony lament over “That Night” and “On A Sunday”.

There is all sorts of male pop — Switzerland’s Luca Hänni sizzles on “She Got Me”, Lithuania’s Jurij Veklenko goes wild on “Run with the Lions”, Sweden’s John Lundvik oozes soul on “Too Late For Love” and the Netherlands’ Duncan Laurance most definitely isn’t playing games with”Arcade”.

Norway’s KEiiNO appeal to greater powers on the pop-joik hybrid “Spirit In The Sky”. Azerbaijan’s Chingiz seeks “Truth”.

Precisely who will qualify is anyone’s guess. But who do you want to see make it? You can listen to each of this year’s second semi-final contestants below. Then vote for your favourites in our poll. You can vote for as many contestants as you like, but you can only vote ONE time, so make it count.

This poll closes, just ahead of the first rehearsals in May. It’s up to you, Europe. Start voting now!

Who should win the second semi-final of Eurovision 2019?

My thought on winning 2nd Semi Final is either the Netherlands or Albania. The only 2 songs that seem to be special in their own way! the Netherlands-amazing voice, modern song, it’s an amazing ballad, great lyrics. the whole package is amazing. I would love the Netherlands to win! Albania-ethnic, tribal, modern yet ancient sound, timeless, drama, powerful, killer voice and performer, hunting, it has a message in it and it is also in a different language, in Albanian! Those who don’t have Albania in their Tops are fools but yet I respect their opinions! There’s not a single song… Read more »

Is it me or this year’s 2nd semi seems harder than the 1st one?
My qualifiers:
1. Armenia
2. Austria
3. Azerbaijan
4. Malta
5. Netherlands
6. Romania
7. Russia
8. Sweden
9. Switzerland
10. Albania

About who will win the semi final: I’m between the Netherlands and Russia!

My qualifiers are:
1. Switzerland
2. Norway
3. Lithuania
4. Latvia
5. Austria
6. Romania
7. Croatia
8. Albania
9. Armenia
10. Ireland
So sad I can’t qualify Denmark 11th, too.
My prediction is that Russia, Sweden, The Netherlands and Malta are gonna make it, while Norway is gonna be a surprise non-qualifier. I should prepare myself to sacrifice at least 3 more of my favs… Gosh, why this semi is so though??

My prediction, not my necessarily my favourites. This is this years SF of Death for sure, but I think there will be a couple of surprises 1- Netherlands – top contender, so they are in the final for sure 2- Russia – also top contender, strong in the televote, his staging will be “epic” so I think this act has a secured place in the Final. 3- Switzerland – this will slay the televote if he pulls an amazing choreography 4- Sweden – I have to say i like Swedish entries and I dont get the hate they are getting… Read more »

Gooosh why is Armenia so so sooooo underrated ? Are you ok everybody ? That girl is just a goddess, not a half goddes ??) if she can sing that song live, and with powerful staging I guess she can even take a trophy to Erevan,Also I think France is underrated to,at least I see her in top 10 )) I also like Switserland and The Netherlands, they are so cuteeeeee, both of them ?

Hmmm, my guess: Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Romania, Sweden, Lithuania, Malta, Armenia —- —- Albania, Denmark, FYROM, Ireland, Austria, Moldova, Latvia, Croatia I think the Netherlands will win jury, Norway the televote. Last year’s unusual nonqualifications for Russia, Romania, and Azerbaijan will not repeat, especially not with friends in this semi. Armenia I am less sure about, it and Azerbaijan automatically start at a disadvantage by being with each other. I think Sweden could be a shock nonqualifier since they have strong competition in this group and it seems to be a down year for them, but I am… Read more »

I would like Russia to win semi 2. I love epic soundtracks, so Scream is totally to my tastes. It is so dramatic, rich musically, full of suspence and emotions, unpredictable. This song has balls. It’s not afraid to be different, to be bold, to be over the top and I love that. The only thing is it took me a few listens to love it, and most of the audience will only listen to it once. But we can be pretty sure Russia will do an amazing stage show, so i guess this will catch viewers’ attention. Maybe Sergey… Read more »

By the way, I’m still unsure about Malta. I mean… look at how much effort they did on their performance in 2018, but televote was never on their way (they only got a point from Denmark and seven points from Australia). I’m afraid even if we call ‘Chameleon’ a bop, it might possibly turn to flop just because of the televote.

POLLS are so based on the size of the populations of participating countrie. ODDS are based on Fan forum rankings or YouTube views and can always be skewed by either the often atypical taste of Eurofans, the size of the populations of participating countries, if a country has done well in ECS, like ex. (who were high on the ODDS even before they had selected a song) or that an well know artist participate for its country, like Russia this year. After rehearsals the odds will be more precise but not always correct.

5. Armenia (Go girl!)
6. Azerbaijan

This semifinal is plenty of calm, ambient and powerful ballads mostly in English which makes it tough to choose the qualifiers among them. The entries are well-crafted but I think they lack something – it’s nice to listen to them, but I feel no emotional bond. Just some random thoughts, doesn’t matter.

And who is a ‘European star ‘ in Eurovision? 😀 Just curious, as i think nobody is particuraly famous.?Also flash news: Europe is not just western European countries you know? In eastern eurpean countries Sargey might be a huge star. Also, who do so many people think their tastes ahaped by the western media, radios, etc are the norm? The world is huge, different coutries have different tastes, what you like is not the only right choice

Right, so you have to know a lot about Russian music to say it’s not high quality. And ‘the world’ is not just America and Europe, if something is not popular here, doesn’t mean it’s not good. If it’s Sergey’s fans creating the hype in the internet is it artificial? There are a lot of Russians in the world, it doesn’t have to be bots

Some countries invest more than 100000$ in ESC and their song, Moldavia and Croatia can only “dream” about that. In the end its all about money. When heard Sergej and Roko they are both great singer, songs are simillar, Roko have better voice, but Russia will invest more so at the end maybe win.

The Netherlands, Russia or Switzerland will have the biggest chance to win the second semi-final.
I think Sweden, Norway, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Malta and North Macedonia are going to qualify as well.
