She’s the Swiss star who recently re-branded herself as Melyz, and went on to release “Dance Floor” — one of the most infectious club tracks of 2018. The singer formerly known as Mélanie René participated at Eurovision 2015. Her appearance sparked her musical motto “Time to Shine” which laid the star foundation we see today. Last week, dropped her new single “Don’t Tell”….and it truly is her time to shine!

“Don’t Tell” — Melyz

“Don’t Tell’ is the title track and lead single taken from Melyz’s recently released five-track EP “Don’t Tell On Us”. It is a self-composed electro-pop number produced by Stephane Chapelle and Eric Anderson of Kitchen Studio. The lyrics here are somewhat provocative — “We gon’ burn through heavenly fire, Hell is desire”. However, when paired with the dulcet tones of Melyz and the high fashion visuals of the music video, the outcome is a solid 2019 radio-pop entry.

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Melyz explains:

“In this EP, I talk about heartbreaks, addictions, games we play in love, feminism (to a certain extent :P). It’s basically about losing yourself, and the journey to find who you are, what you stand for, what you are willing to fight for, embracing your vulnerability as well as your strength. I want this EP to have a positive message, despite it being therapeutic.

““Don’t Tell” which is my latest single is about addictions. How we try hard to pretend we are someone or something different so as to cover up our chaos inside. We all have a dark side, we all have sins, we are all human. I wanted to portray this duality in the music video. This is why there are fancy dresses and glamorous makeup against a gloomy background. Life can be a vision of golden glitter head dresses and dark masks. I embrace the shine as well as my dark side. You can be a Queen and you can be fierce at the same time. This is the main message of “Don’t Tell” and this theme runs through the entire EP, Don’t Tell On Us”.”

Melyz has been consistent with this new theme of charged duality. Her music comes across as more honest, and perhaps rougher around the edges. The album artwork sees half her face in golden glitter and the other half masked. The visual creation in the music video is a collaborative effort featuring the gowns of Giovanni Lo Presti and Estelle Rochat and the golden headpiece of Ramin Heidary.

Melyz continues, “In this EP, I talk about heartbreaks, addictions, games we play in love and feminism to a certain extent. It is basically about losing yourself, and the journey to find who you are, what you stand for, what you are willing to fight for, embracing your vulnerability as well as your strength. I wanted this EP to have a positive message, despite it being therapeutic. The next step now is gigging and promoting this EP live, and I have a few surprises for the coming months, so stay tuned”.

“Don’t Tell” is available now on all music platforms. Let us know what you think of the EP and the music video for “Don’t Tell” in the comments section below.

“Don’t Tell” lyrics — Melyz

Sunrise, Tequila, after kick
Doesn’t taste real
Can you feel this?

Sun is up, so is your spirit
So high above, you’re flying
Can you feel this?

As long as your feet don’t touch the ground
You’re safe, you’re bulletproof, you’re great
Can you feel this?

Run until you drop (drop)
Run until you’ve had enough
Keep going don’t you stop (stop)
No one else can save you now

The night’s calling, don’t turn around
You know you’re gonna fall (eh eh)
You know you gotta fight
(give it up, give it up, give it up)

L for Lust
S for Sour
D for Dust
Forgive us Father
We gon’ burn through heavenly fire
Hell is desire (LS Desire)

Don’t tell (don’t tell)
Don’t tell (don’t tell)
Don’t tell, don’t tell on us
(Don’t tell, don’t tell on us)

Forgive us we have sinned
We’re running after the light within
Don’t judge until
You’ve walked the walk and been out on the limb

The night’s calling don’t turn around
You know you gonna fall (eh eh)
You know you gotta fight it
(give it up, give it up, give it up)

L for Lust
S for Sour
D for Dust
Forgive us Father
We gon’ burn through heavenly fire
Hell is desire (LS Desire)

Don’t tell (don’t tell)
Don’t tell (don’t tell)
Don’t tell, don’t tell on us
(Don’t tell, don’t tell on us)

I wouldn‘t call her a star if she‘s only known for being in ESC here in Switzerland.
