In her first interview with wiwibloggs, Moldova’s Anna Odobescu sat down with our Deban ahead of Madrid’s PrePartyES on Saturday night. The pair chatted about Anna’s beginnings in Moldova’s musical hotspot Transnistria, the secrets behind her music video and her staging plans for Tel Aviv.

Anna comes from the Transnistria region in east Moldova. She’s actually the third consecutive Moldovan representative to come from the area, following on from Sunstroke Project in 2017 and DoReDoS last year: “A lot of good artists, and artists who have participated at Eurovision are from Transnistria or they studied at the Tiraspol Music College, so that’s probably the reason why they’ve come to Eurovision so often.”

Anna is not only a performer, she’s also a singing teacher. That’s why she’s not afraid to hit those big notes every time she performs “Stay”: “It’s a very difficult song to sing, but I chose it because it can show off my skills as a performer. I’m also a singing teacher so I chose that song because it was difficult. I decided not to choose an easy song and instead choose one that shows off my musical skills.”

“There isn’t a Romanian version of “Stay” yet, but I’m working on it!”

Anna chatted with Deban about the music video for Stay, which was shot in as little as 24 hours, and couldn’t help but give us a hint about what we should expect (or not expect) when she hits the stage in Tel Aviv.

“It’s a glossy story of love which was inspired by the ballad, but actually what you’ll see on the stage during the second semi-final will be totally different to the music video.”

“The video was shot in 24 hours because our National Final was only a week before the Head of Delegation meeting where we had to present the song and the music video, so what you’ll see during the semi-final will be totally different. Different even from the national final. I want to give you more details but I can’t!”

What do you think? Do you think Anna’s song is going to qualify to the Eurovision final, or is it destined to stay in the semis? Let us know in the comments.

You are so cruel with Roko and Anna. They spend money to attend these pre parties. They present themselves how they can, is not English test, those 3 minutes will matter.

I LOOOOVE DEBAN! Secondly, this interview was super awkward. Her body language, her face, it’s like she didn’t want to be there. Uncomfortable question LOL. Self-promotion, yes. That said, Tel Aviv will tell. .

We’re goofing a bit on Anna, but to be fair, she seems like a super nice person and one that believes in herself. Can’t wait to listen to Romanian version of “Stay”, it’s a beautiful language.
