He’s one of the bookies’ favourites to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 — and Switzerland’s Luca Hänni is bringing countless fans along for the ride. With his footloose bop “She Got Me” Luca wants the world to move — but he isn’t simply talking about shaking it on the dance floor.

As he told me ahead of Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam earlier this year: “You always need someone to bring you to dance and to make you happy…that person could be my girlfriend or the fans or the whole crowd.”

In that light hitting the dance floor is a matter of turning up and turning out — or simply living your best life. The sultry woman in his music video may conjure a temptress or object of desire. But in reality she embodies anyone who inspires or motivates you. And if she happens to be your other half all the better.

What do the She Got Me lyrics mean?

“She Got Me” comes tinged with fire. The Latin sound and pulsating rhythms smack of the dance floor, where bodies writhe and sweat flows. The lyrics bring this narrative to life, recounting a man’s growing infatuation with a woman he spots in a club. “I noticed her when she arrived,” Luca sings. “Kind of lady that mama like, but mama ain’t here tonight.”

That mummy would approve suggests the the she in “She Got Me” has a wholesome quality. But this lady isn’t just comfortable with the in-laws. Apparently she’s charged with electricity and sets the room alight. “When she poured out a little spice got the whole place on a vibe,” he sings. “Monday night into Friday night, gettin’ rowdy, rowdy.”

Causing a stir comes easy for her, and Luca’s text suggests she knows precisely what she’s doing as she sets heart aflutter. When she goes low she goes so low — doing her utmost to, in his words, turn heads and break cups and necks. This is a woman in total control of herself..and indeed the crowd of onlookers.

Driven by passion Luca submits — “Oh, she lightin’ the fire now, we’re goin’ wild, like an animal, all in, gonna sweat it out.”

Taken literally he’s a man obsessed by her beauty and ability to dip it low. But a less lusty reading suggest her charms are just the gateway to something deeper. Dirty dancing isn’t an end in itself, but the start of something beautiful — on the dance floor and off.

She Got Me lyrics — Luca Hänni

I noticed her when she arrived
Kinda of lady that mama like
But mama, she ain’t here tonight
Gettin’ rowdy, rowdy
When she poured out a little spice
Got the whole place on a vibe
Monday night into Friday night
Gettin’ rowdy, rowdy

She let her body talk
She make the party stop
She gettin’ naughty, ya
Droppin’ it, droppin’ it down

When she go low, when she go low
She go so low, she go so low
Oh, she know, oh
Oh, she know she got me dirty dancin’
When she go low, when she go low
She go so low, she go so low
Oh, she know, oh
Oh, she know she got me dirty dancin’

Dirty dancin’
Dirty dancin’
Dirty dancin’

Oh, she lightin’ the fire now
We’re goin’ wild, like an animal
All in, gonna sweat it out
Gettin’ rowdy, rowdy

Turnin’ heads and turnin’ up
Breakin’ necks, she breakin’ cups
Look at her, can’t get enough
Gettin’ rowdy, rowdy
She let her body talk
She make the party stop
She gettin’ naughty, ya
Droppin’ it, droppin’ it down

When she go low, when she go low
She go so low, she go so low
Oh, she know, oh
Oh, she know she got me dirty dancin’
When she go low, when she go low
She go so low, she go so low
Oh, she know, oh
Oh, she know she got me dirty dancin’

Dirty dancin’
Dirty dancin’

All the boys go, yo-yo-yo
All the girls go, yo-yo-yo
Everyone go, yo-yo-yo
She got us dirty dancin’

When she go low, when she go low
She go so low, she go so low
Oh, she know, oh
Oh, she know she got me dirty dancin’
She got me dirty dancin’

Dirty dancin’
Oh, she got me dirty dancin’
Yeah, she got me, got me, got me, dirty dancin’

When she go low, when she go low
She go so low, she go so low
Oh, she know, oh
Oh, she know she got me dirty dancin’, dirty dancin’

I think he will experience the fate of Sergey Lazarev, honestly, this song is more for a club, nothing but a good song to dance, but not for the Eurovision Song Contest. TOP 5 YES, Winner NO.

Okay !!!! And « blurred lines » is about Endless Love !
Please Luca don’t try to give a deep meaning to your song, this is ridiculous !

I HATE how some artists try to give a meaning to a song just to get votes or sth. Israels song has meaning, UKs song has meaning, Greeces, Netherlands song has a meaning. Songs like she got me, Replay and others are great but they got no meaning. Theyre just songs that makes you wanna dance and thats amazing too.

This, but also. I hate when artists expect to get more votes because song has cool “meaning”. That’s simply unfair and I think this is a reason why others pretend that their song is deep as heck.

Trying to give meaning to these lyrics is hilarious

I broke down and wept like a child at the sheer beauty of his words. Truly, this is poetry.

Just clarify that the lyrics of Despacito are far better than these ones, they are subtly sensual and well written, the popular songwriter and singer Luis Fonsi is behind them.

I totally agree they don’t sound so vulgar

That’s what I meant, Despacito’s lyrics are poetic. These are pure trash

The song writer missed the ‘present simple’ classes…. Whatever, having three official languages in Switzerland, why choosing a fourth?

Again, it’s written like a typical American modern radio hit. I guess it’s why I don’t like it as much as other people do.

Luca, you just gotta accept that your lyrics are nothing but sexual and absolute nonsense. We all know it and the song is still a fun BOP , but don’t fool yourself.

Tell me that this interview is a joke, he can’t be serious.
The song is obviously about sex. Like Despacito.

“Dirty dancing is a metaphor for living your best life.” SURE it is, Luca.

We all know it’s actually about humping, you don’t need to pretend it’s deep

I feel enlightened indeed. I am contemplating on ”getting rowdy, rowdy” might be a symbolism for working hard to succeed in life. ”She make the party stop” might be a reference to her political activism too. 🙂

I think that the metaphor from the title might be correct, considering the fact that “Dirty Dancing”‘s most famous song’s title is “The Time Of My Life”.

Oooh, thank you for the brilliant explanation and analysis! And here I thought it was a mere song about facef**k… you know, she went low and got him dirty dancing. I’m such a bad person.

Hi Patrick I don’t like so much the song of Switzerland and I really hope this year will win a song with a deep meaning because there are some very beautiful, but you were right ! You can enjoy this song because it’s funny and catchy and you are honest because you don’t pretend to give it a deep meaning… it is like a disco song, when one is not interested in words but in dancing. Soldi for me is an example of catchy music and deep meaning, but I know not all the people love it… Well, I will… Read more »

Well, the music is catchy, but if we have to comment the lyrics, Soldi or Arcade are another planet, another universe…

You know, It’s a good thing this song slaps, because these lyrics make me cringe hard. It’s not that the song is badly written or anything, I just think… it’s a bit too sexy for my tastes. Still, pretty good song
