Our host with the most Kobi Marimi is ready to say “shalom!” to us all and welcome us to Tel Aviv. While the rest of the city prepares the venues and staging, Kobi has been on the promo trail in the Netherlands and Spain.

In Amsterdam, our William caught up with him to chat Israeli food, weight loss tips and the message of “Home”:

Our Kobi is ever the gracious host: “I feel honoured, I feel great about it. I’ve been a huge Eurovision fan since I was a child… The fact that I’m representing my country in my city is amazing. It’s huge”.

Throughout the interview, Kobi emphasised the message that he hopes his Eurovision performance will send to the viewers:

“I want to say to everyone, no matter how you look and no matter where you come from, your sexuality or your colour, just be who you are. You are someone”.

We couldn’t agree more.

Kobi Marimi covers past Israel Eurovision entries in Madrid

Our Deban also caught up with Kobi in Madrid at the PrePartyES.

Besides divulging a penchant for Ben’s Cookies, the star also touched on frequent comparisons between him and Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury:

“I think Freddie is a legend, his range is one in a generation, I don’t think I have that. I love him. I studied in acting class in high school, we went to camp in two days, the teacher wanted us to listen to something different, and I met Queen’s art for the first time.” Humility is a virtue y’all.

The star also showed Deban how to tango and covered a bunch of past Israeli Eurovision entries.

What do you think of Kobi’s covers? Does the message of “Home” resonate with you at home? Let us know in the comments!

lost in translation: “I want to say to everyone, no matter how you look and no matter where you come from, your sexuality or your color, just be who you are. You are someone”. – I want to tell young Kobi who weighted an extra 110 pounds almost 5 years ago that thanks to you I’m proud, I’m proud, I’m proud like a peacock (although I’m still obsessed and terrified with the idea of being gay, thanks to Netta for being such a great door opener showing me the colors of the rainbow and for riding on her coattails. #metoo… Read more »

Kobi is in my top 10. I saw him live in Amsterdam and he was amazing. Great voice live, very emotional moment and I think he brings once of the best generic ballads. He is totally underrated in my opinion and will do much better then people expect.

He’s sooooo sweet.
The interview with Deban, was pure gold, and Kobi’s version of Golden Boy is amazing!

The fact that Kobi is able to deliver live vocals every time will lead to Israel surprising this year (not a win, of course, but higher finish than most people assume)

Much luck to Kobi and everyone participating in Eurovision 2019 in Israel!!

Love him and his song! It’s always great when someone who is actually a Eurovision fan gets to represent their country!
